  1. I ran into this kind of setup when shopping for engagement ring settings. The designers have authorized dealers who will not sell for less than the price determined by the designer.
  2. Damn you Tighe! Now I have to go try it. Any must haves? Katie and I frequent Cafe Campagne and Le Pichet. Last week I had Cassoulet for breakfast. :)
  3. Two Larb related notes: I have made it with toasted brown rice for a more roasted peanut like flavor. I just ate some.
  4. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein.
  5. I have to second the albacore @ Mashiko Phylo wrapped scallop in sweet corn soup @ Mistral Foie Gras w/ carmelized pumpkin @ Harvest Vine
  6. Welcome niterider! I look forward to your review. :) Ben
  7. Great stuff Neil! Good to see the pics presented well on a nice Web page too. :) Hope you have a bunch of bandwidth allocated to your Web host or it might get "eGullet-ed" :) Ben
  8. Thanks guys! I am just starting to dabble in espresso, but have a long history of latte consumption. I had a single espresso shot a few weekends ago from Vivace and was slightly turned off at first by the extreme concentration of the coffee, but by the end of the shot I was loving the complex sweet aftertaste. More experimentation is necessary. As soon as I get my new digital camera, I will take a few pics of the vivace shots. Ben
  9. Will do, Ohh, I wonder if it will be rated for how many vegatarian options the menu has!!!! Joy! Ben
  10. Anybody know who the chef is? Another good sign is the first link on the Link page is to Slow Food.
  11. This place looks so good! I can't wait to try it out. I saw it on my way to Lark last week and it did turn my head. I also saw on their Web site that they offer free wireless internet service and half price wine on tuesday. Ben
  12. Could one of you knowledgable gents post a pic of a proper espresso? I am pretty dang sure I know what it looks like since I have access to Cafe Vivace, but I would love to see what a good example is supposed to look like for reference purposes. Ben
  13. I agree, find it in your wallet to get something 100% agave. For this purpose I usually go for Sauza's 100% Ben
  14. Good to hear you are open, now I have one more place to eat added to my Chicago list. Ben
  15. If you look further up on this thread I think I mention The Epicurean Edge, which is where Varmint ordered his Ryusen. There should be a link in that post. Ben
  16. We could make a lot more money on eGullet if we changed it into a porn site. We have a powerful server and all the equipment to do so, yet we've decided to settle for a few dollars a month from the Endless Pool ad. Nonetheless, if eGullet's earnings are greater than its expenses, it will be profitable. Not as profitable as it could be as a porn site, but nonetheless profitable. You seem to be referring to an academic notion of profitability that says a business isn't profitable unless it is maximizing its profit. Most people, I think, would disagree with that characterization. For example, I don't think the IRS lets you take a deduction for the opportunity cost of running a business instead of renting the property. Economics-class semantics aside, if Peter Luger is generating positive cashflow it's profitable. Hard-drive partition!!!!
  17. japanese-knife.com is based out of NYC
  18. I went with three others on Sat. We waited a while for a table, but the hostess was very kind and apologetic about the wait. Dishes Ordered: French Blue Cauliflower Soup Apples and Sunchokes Tuna w/ Sea Urchin Italian Wedding Soup Albacore w/ preserved lemons, lentils, and olives Pork Belly Potatoes x2 Lemon Tart Apple Crisp w/ dried cherries Malt Ice Cream We had a fantastic time and I will be sure to go back. The menu has so many interesting dishes available. I loved pretty much everything. I have a few small suggestions though: Albacore should be seasoned better on the outside before searing; Wedding soup could have used a shade more of the pasta. I agree with you Tighe about the potatoes. They were very nice, but could be much better with more attention to detail. Lark should give Mistral a call. Ben
  19. Yeah, too bad the dollar sucks overseas right now, but this is really my only chance to go for some time so we are just going to bite the bullet and do it. I think to save money, we will try to cut down on the nice hotels for most of the trip and splurge on perhaps one or two. Ben
  20. Thanks again everybody for all the great comments! Roughly how much should I expect to spend for a private sleeper car to Paris? ben
  21. Cool! Thanks Varmint! Try taking pics against a white background like a towel or sheet. It should show the coloring better. :) Ben
  22. I think I saw the Shun sitting on the countertop in the kitchen pics, but either way... Give up the goods!
  23. Yep, I tried this in a Gin and Tonic when I was in Vegas. Not too shabby for mixing. It added a bit of interesting subtle pear flavor. Not sure I would buy a bottle though. Ben
