  1. except for the freshly made cheeses- I keep my cheese out of the fridge... i keep almost all of my vegetables out of the fridge as well, except for the my herbs.. my fridge is usually just full of cooked food and tofu/milk.. sauces..
  2. I don't spend a single cent per month for eating out. I really prefer just cooking at home- since I do have the time and means to prepare just about anything I want.. of course it's not always as good as I want it to be, but I very much prefer what I or my sisters/dad cook to restaurant food or food that other people prepare. Call me a snob or whatever- it saves money!
  3. lindt is definitely my favorite not just for cooking but for eating, - I can get the plain (no coconut) so there's no problem with that... but I do also use a very cheap - generic white chocolate bars from the bake shops here which are about 4x cheaper than lindt
  4. I LOVE mooncakes.. especially those bean-filled ones... it's just so hard to get the vegetarian ones tho
  5. I'm a lacto vegetarian - my dad spent many years in Korea as a taekwondo athlete/instructor, and my mom learned how to cook a number of delicious Korean dishes such as bibmpap. The way we do it is just really simple- we saute all of the vegetables with a little bit of sesame oil and/or sesame seeds and or with garlic/chives/leeks- personally, I like it even if the veggies (carrots/cucumber/baby corn-optional/spinach/soy bean sprouts etc) are just steamed and mixed with a little bit of sesame oil.. then we also make this fried tofu dish cooked in that hot-paste that usually comes in red tubs (not so sure about the spelling!) mixed with a little soy sauce, sugar, pepper, and water plus a bit of sesame oil and seeds(optional on the seeds).. we also make the sweetened potato dish/appetizer...
  6. boy, this thread is making me hungry! I've made bitter-melon pizza before, it was pretty good.. there's just a certain way to cook the bitter melon to make it so that they aren't bitter
  7. 7up/other soda pops for upset stomachs (usually given with some soda crackers this ginseng soup (a combination of carrots, ginseng roots, taro roots, sweet potatoes, - sometimes there's corn, spam, green beans, and or even cabbage/wombok) for an overall immune system lift ice cream for tonsilitis.. this really simple- soup-like rice dish with ginger, carrots, etc.. for upset stomachs.
  8. I like to use both glass and stainless bowls of different sizes.
  9. Yes. I like it the way the Indians and Filipinos cook it. An uncle of mine also likes to cook it this way: just boil the okras with a little vinegar til cooked. - but personally, I don't like it.
  10. Malarkey & Trishiad- what kind of yeast do you use? What I realy can't make is the spring roll sauce which consists of soy sauce, sugar, pepper, and cornstarch. It always ends up like jello I also can't make fudge. I usually get the taste but the consistency for both mentioned above - isn't right.
  11. I've never liked eating alone- unless the only other person(s) are people I don't like.. but recently I've been getting used to eating alone.. :'(
  12. Eating desserts first is an ayurvedic thing ..(my problem is that I also have dessert after the meal, not just before ) gosh.. I didn't realize this whole thing was such a big thing already.

    Dinner! 2005

I had leftovers from last night- spaghetti.
  14. :D.. lol.. I think it's an Asian thing- they just like to eat their fruits with salt.
  15. This thread's really inspiring, thanks for posting the pictures. :)
  16. You can never go wrong with those wonderful ingredients. Good luck! :)
  17. ^^ that's how I buy mine- just have to soak it overnight or so, then it's really easy/fast to cook- it'll only take around 10 minutes to cook.. they won't be as big as some of the other tapiocas but they're good all the same.
  18. This may sound impractical.. but anyway, how much are sweet potatoes in your area? They're so nutritious and heavy, if you eat a lot of them you won't even need anymore supplements, you won't gain weight, and you'll have a lot of energy. If you like sweets- well, get teh orange sweet potatoes- slice and bake them and eat them plain, or boil/fry - for the boiled- better to boil them whole and then eat it with butter/honey and or a bit of coconut milk or dessicated coconut (mash and mix) then you can even put some marshies on top and bake it like that (if you have an oven) for the friend stuff- you can cut them like french fries or just circular .. you can also sprinkle a little cayenne on top before you eat it.. helps you lose more weight.

    Dinner! 2005

we had tamarind fried rice, a bean(monggo) dish and a sweet jello/macapuno dish.
  20. Mango cream pie is one of my "desserts to die for".. and it's super easy to make. You just need your usual sweet-pastry crust or even just the graham crust. Cool the crust- then get yourself some really nice thick cream (like the cream you can get here in the Philippines :p-it's got the same consistency as nicely formed yogurt) or some sweet yogurt- that'll will do nicely as well. Pour a bit on the crust then put slivers of mango meat - fill the bottom of the pan, sprinkle some cinnamon (just a 2 pinches or so) and drizzle with some nice flavored honey (don't use leatherwood honey or other really strong honeys which come from hardwood trees. Get the blossom-honeys- sunflower is the best IMHO) then pour more yogurt/cream then repeat the mango, cinnamon and honey thing then you end with the cream and you can refrigerate it first so that when you decorate it with more mango strips or chocolate bits or whatever you want to use, the mangoes won't just swim in the cream. You can also put raisins or bits of dates and other such pleasant things into the pie- as you wish. :) It's a favorite. Anyway, Mango secrets are good too.. Just cook the mango with a bit of cinnamon/dates/ a bit of dessicated coconut or something and some honey/sugar and a tsp. or so of cornstarch.. cook on medium heat for about 5-8 minutes - till it's sort of become a mush. Make a nice oat-sugar and butter crust (nearly like an oat cookie- how sweet it will be is all up to you) - put 3/4 in a pan (put some on the sides as well, and then after you line the pan you can pour in the mangoes, then with the remaining oat mix, cover the mangoes completely. Bake at 350 until golden brown- that's approx. 20 minutes, then refrigerate. This is best served and eaten cold with a scoop of ice cream (preferably vanilla) on top. :) Mango lassies, as mentioned, are definitely fantastic as well. Here's another really simple one: mangoes, cornflakes (plain) and cream with a bit of honey or sugar and you can also put dates- or raisins or cinnamon. Yum yum
  21. ^ ditto on that. What beautiful pictures.. everything looked so nice and yummy! Good lord.. :(
  22. Origamicrane- looks good all right! :) Sago is also nice with lots of milk or cream (thick stuff) and strawberries/blueberries/mango - just make sure that whatever fruit you're using is ripe. You can either put sugar or honey to sweeten it.. sometimes I even use a bit of condensed milk. Cook the sago (it's must easier and faster to cook after soaking it for several hours/overnight) in the cream/milk and then when it's nearly done you can put in the fruits and sugar... it's nice hot or cold. :) I'm sorry I've not got any pictures to post on here.. I don't have a camera :(
