  1. There used to be a food truck in parlin/sayreville that had great food in it. They served 3 types of pierogis, ravioli and different sauces on occasion, sausages 3 types hot dogs and cheese steaks and burgers. They were always busy. The only other things I can think of is adding a "fast starch" such as those oversized pretzels or home-style fries or cookies or some good snacky type starch.
  2. You have your "slashes" backwards! LOL - here's the link for you clickers. http://www.bergen.com Go to "Food Dining" on the left side and then submenu dining. WOW what a review I just read it. You are now officially a 2.5 to 3 star "NJ" restaurant and her comments were pretty much what I would have said but I feel that you're not "expensive"... and then in the review she complains that you give too much food - you have to laugh! Anyhow, you see how they rate expensive? I consider up to $75.00 without tax/tip for two for supper with a shared appetizer and a soup or salad each and 1 main entree and a dessert reasonable. In NY you'd probably be a 4 star IMHO. Congratulations to the staff at SOB once again for a job well done!!!!!
  3. Today we went to Ming on Oak Tree Road in Edison. My friend and I were disappointed, having heard that people liked it but we didn't like it. We shared an appetizer of shrimp shanghai balls or something like that - minced shrimp, chicken quick fried - like a meatball but with a fishy taste and crunchy outside. UGH. We shared what was marked as spicy - lamb dish - it was oily/greasy no spicy flavor at all, the kimchee amuse bouche was spicier and that had sprinkled red pepper flakes on it and had a pretty presentation! If that was spicy a McD's shake would be um... an arsonists delight! We also ordered "hakka" to share it's sort of an indian lomein type dish for a side starch - this too was disappointing having more veggies than noodles and no real flavor to it. We both agreed, my friend and I, that next time we go to Rasoi down the street!

  5. Whilst I was out driving today I was reminded of an oldy but goody that Jeff and I used to frequent called Bean Curd - it's on 24/124 in Chatham NJ about 1.25 Miles in from the Short Hills Mall area heading west on your left side. I drove by it and remembered how delicious their cold noodles w/sesame sauce was and other delicious dishes. I am not sure if it's still good 20+ years later but if it is I'd strongly suggest going there... or perhaps my tastes have changed?!
  6. ::Sniffle:: Now I have to cook? Oh my goodness... let's see if I can find where the stove is, hmmm and then how would I turn a burner on with butter on it? Uh oh, if I have to dunk the bread won't my finely manicured nails get covered with gooey egg? Oh no! Maybe I can coerce Jeff to do it (evil grin) nah, nevermind I'll try it one day when I'm feeling up to an adventure in cooking.
  7. GENTLY nudging folks back to the TOPIC - please... or maybe does Picnic make/deliver French Toast in the morning with some bacon and bangers? I'd order that AND lunch to make it worth the trip. There's got to be a good restaurant type place that delivers some good breakfast food nearby. (no not online places either!)
  8. Sugarflake Bakery on Westwood Avenue in Westwood about <50 feet from the Kinderkamack light is real good for Ruggelach and Hamentashen. (Forgive me if I mis-spelled - I'm kind of sleepy from not sleeping enough lately!) So is the Runcible Spoon in the Eastern part of Nyack at the END of Route 59 (make a left at light go 1 block!) and they make SUPERB cakes and eclectic sandwiches and finger sandwiches. They are always busy on Fridays & Wknds.
  9. Years ago all I used to like is Gaiser's dogs but I haven't told anyone since I wanted it to be my little secret. There were Gaiser's all over NJ or so it seemed when I was young and they had the best hot-dogs. My 2nd most favorites are Nathans, Thumann's or Hebrew National used as "dirty water dogs". My father loves the Chocolate Macaroons and the Coconut Custard Pie from Delicious Orchards.
  10. Is there any places to get a good hot order of French Toast that is NOT fast-food, IHOP or a Diner? Must be in Bergen County preferably close to Westwood area. Delivery would be a plus, but highly doubtful. NO, I don't want to make it - to someone in the wings who may add their two cents worth.
  11. Let's not forget the hot mulled and chilled cider and the delicious cider donuts! YUM YUMMMMmm YUUUUmmmMMMMmmMMMMmmmm!
  12. Charity begins at home! ← Hubby was under the misconception that I was offering to cook! Au contraire! LOL... the day I can cook well is the day I - well - cook well! I was offering my time up to Christine in exchange for her teaching a neophyte how to cook rice without burning it, boil corn without popping it etc!
  13. I finally got to Balthazar today after class. I picked up a chocolate "muffin" type bread, some small package of cookies and since they were out of the bread I got the 6 dinner-style rolls with chopped olive in them and 1 hot cross bun which I didn't care too much for, it wasn't sweet enough for me I should have gotten the sticky bun! They charge a bit more than your supermarket but the quality and freshness is far superior.
  14. I ate at Ikea a late lunch and at Taco Bell I picked up something to eat at home. Erin Go Bragh-less?!
  15. i would have knocked him on his ass. ← Agreed. ← Tsk tsk, all of these propensities for violence. You are forgetting your Miss Manners chapter on dealing with an attitudinized waiter. The proper response is to grasp the water glass daintily yet firmly, pinky extended as if at a formal tea, and pour the contents down his pants. The gesture may be embellished with a quick grab-and-pull of the waiter's belt with left thumb and forefinger, so that the water may be aimed at the resulting cavity and achieve greater penetration. ← ROFLMAO - OH MY! ::applause::
  16. Thanks Menton! Damn you, you're making me hungry... HUNGRY! GrrRRrrrr! Anyone have a link to the Balthazar thread I couldn't find it. Thanks! ANYONE?!
  17. I need dates! Dates! Heh, damn my lack of patience. My Grandmother lives in West Orange so now I'll have a place to take her to pick up some good food if she will go. I am overjoyed that there will be one in Paramus, closer than Ridgewood or actually more convenient to get to - by Chuck-E-Cheese across from CVS.
  18. Dog-gone it that is an adorable dog, though NOT as adorable as mine, of course - no bones about it! (wink) I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, but I'd love to get a leg-up on the competition... however my two "dog-babies" are elderly. Thanks for the adorable picture - That really is a cute picture, nicely done.
  19. I've seen mentioned by Christine Nunn of Picnic and maybe it was Chef Gary of Silver Oak Bistro or someone else? Something about Balthazar bakery... I think I drove by it last weekend when driving through Englewood when I made a wrong turn and had to take a parallell back street going the other "one way". HOWEVER the website listed by a few didn't work. It's ok though! HELP please! (Mmmm I loved their bread with black olives!) YUMMY! Edited for info I found from thread - RP - thanks curlz! Balthazar Bakery Wholesale Division Retail Outlet 214 South Dean Street Englewood, NJ 07631 201-503-9717 phone 201-503-9721 fax Hours: 7 AM - 7 PM, Mon-Fri, 8 AM - 4 PM Sat, closed Sunday. However, if it slows down earlier, they may close earlier, so best to call ahead.
  20. Maybe you can make stuff for "pick up" with 2 hours advance notice for home "rewarming" or keep it in a warmer - so that it is still fresh, and just have someone "sit the store" and collect the money/charge card info so it's "light work" for the 2 or 3 hours that you stay open 2 or 3 nights a week. (I almost feel like volunteering my time in exchange for teaching me how to cook things, except I would probably eat all the bread and good food you have!)
  21. She made a kick butt Chicken Tikka last week! You missed it... dry it off and you'd have had a Tandoori chicken more or less! Now all she needs is naan or poori as a side or some nice earl grey mango chutney... and we'd have made her chefs cry by ordering another 5-10 plates of it!
  22. I thought of 3 more silly names: Danger-Dogs and Red Hot Fever Franks or Steamy Weiner (nah, the last one sounds too like a porn star name!)
  23. We all should get together at Thai Chef if it's that good sometime! I'm in for it if anyone ever goes, it sounds good so far from what folks have been saying here.
  24. Could be Hackensack or Rochelle Park that early on... not Saddle Brook but I'll see next time I drive through if I can find it for you.
  25. We dined at the restaurant recommended in Livingston across from Eppes Essen, on Route 10 today and for the most part it was good. Not great but good. The service was good when they remembered we were there... I guess it was a busy Monday? I took my grandmother there (she's 91 and bit picky) she got the Wonton soup and she loved it - score one for them from her! I ordered the pork buns to share with her and she said no, then ate one, then another... well we finished the appetizer between the two of us (score 3 one from both of us!) I thought I'd have to bring home leftovers like crazy, but only brought home half of my lunch so I can "spice it up or add something to give it flavor when I got home!! I ordered for her an old "american style" favorite shrimp chow-mein she liked it - she wanted fried rice but ended up with brown rice since they didn't have it?! I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai dish of shrimp w/noodles and slivered egg (yamago?) and peanuts over the top. It was quite bland but edible. Maybe if they had a bit of sauce for the side it would have been better, so you could spice it up?! The manager? seemed real nice as did the staff but again to refill the water would have been nice, to ask every now and then if there is anything else would have been nicer. I had to grab the nearest staffmember to get something cool to drink! She kept staring at the gentlemans plate who sat next to us I explained to her that it was Sushi and explained further outside later! LOL She's so worldly but every now and then ::shrug:: either way I enjoyed my day off with my grandmother... maybe I can find a better place to take her next time?!
