  1. Why not Fortunato's (call the bar first if need be!) they have both great food and nice - ok beyond nice... over-eager service. That should do it!!!!!
  2. We shall be dining in the DC/VA area whilst house-hunting and/or buying! Now that we sold our home we will discover new and exciting restaurants down there no doubt. We usually have BBQ's here at home (was considering Silver Oak Bistro and their BBQ take home specials.) but not this year, we'll be there and here all week long.
  3. Teaneck Kebab House 253 DeGraw Ave, Teaneck, NJ (201) 836-8571 Sounds worth the look-see, I think I shall coerce my husband to go there w/me! P.S. Don't mix up the Palow with the Perlow... unless you're a cannibal.
  4. Truer words... well you know what I mean. Anyhow I am not keen on "red sauce" I-talian restaurants. I find it hard to find a good Italian place up here we can like/love... any suggestions Tommy or anyone?! I mean as far as pizza or the basics, I love Nellie's pies and Kinchley's too but hubby was not too thrilled - being from the Bronx - he felt they were too "Jerseyesque". He said if you want REAL pizza you go to "da bronx"!!!!!
  5. Matt if you say it, it's as good as word from GOD for me with at least 75% of the things you say! (I think the only thing we disagree on is the service/quality level at C46) Let's see if anyone else weighs in on this as well?!
  6. The Farmer's Market in River Vale will be opening on or about the 1st or 2nd Thursday in River Vale in Bergen County. It is located on Mark Lane which is the turn before Edgewood Country Club if you're heading North on River Vale Road from Westwood Avenue coming from Kinderkamack Road. I do hope all the great vendors including the "PA Dutch/Amish" folks and the crabcake/italian foodstuff guy shows up. We are hoping to get 1 or 2 shopping times done there before our big move down the DC area... hope there are some good ones down there as well!
  7. Vitale's Restaurant and Caterers 293 Queen Anne Road Teaneck, NJ is where we went with our in-laws tonight for supper. http://www.vitales.com We had: Appetizers (shared) and all presented well and quite tasty too. Spiedini White Bread Stuff with Mozzarella, Egg Dipped, Anchovy, Caper Sauce $8.50 Roasted Polenta with Mushroom sauce special around $7.50 Dinner entrees came w/free salad & bread was free w/meal & it was real tasty "home-made" olive loaf style bread too. FIL had: Veal Parmagiana Tender Veal Smothered In Mozzarella Cheese over linguini. (he had asked for the Linguini on the side not liking it covered with all the sauce - they didn't do it per request) $18.95 MIL had: Chicken Sorrento? Chicken with cheese and steamed veggies and I think spinach?! Around 19.00 I had the Duck special with a raisin/apple sauce reduction w/sweet potato side $21.95 (Hubby felt my duck was a bit "gamey" I felt the sauce was pretty flavorless!) Hubby got the Seared Halibut w/fresh avocado/tomato side dish and w/fresh steamed veggies and mashed on the side. $20.00 appx. The desserts were made well but not presented well at all, all of our ice creams were in varying stages of melting. I had a banana crepe w/melted chocolate ice cream. (LOL) FIL had a Bourbon Pecan Tart (w/half melted ice cream) MIL had Tiramisu (w/half melted ice cream) Hubby had Apple Tart w/partially melted ice cream They all ordered coffee which I had to remind them about 2x, which came when they were down to the last 2 or 3 bites of dessert. We had to ask for more bread, water, refills on drinks. The waiters were nice but the service SUCKED big time!!!!! We might consider going back for the food perhaps (but I would NOT order duck there again) if the service got better. There were 5 waitstaff and 4 full tables (appx 20 people!) The staff needs training at the least. We were celebrating the culmination of several good events...DC here we go!
  8. * I'm only bumping this because maybe my previous post wasn't read?! * Also will you be having any chicken curry sandwiches next week with all this heat something nice n cool I'm sure would work for not just me but anyone?! Lastly I know you mentioned some kind of "in-house" cooking demo - if so when? I am hoping to squeeze some time to go before we move from NJ!!!!!
  9. I like Linden's chocolate chip cookies and for a commercial brand Cheryl & Co's cookies are fantastic (the ones with the icing are my favorites!) YUM!
  10. Hi Eric... sounds like fun! Question - you said Whoever consumes the most AHD Classic dogs <---- remind me again what is on these hot dogs?! I just might be game! and will we have something to help wash them down with like pepsi or coke or water?!
  11. This place was less than 2 minutes from our first home (we didn't want "apartment life") down in central NJ so we bought our first house there in the East Brunswick/South River area. We went there fewer than a handful of times in the 10 years+/- that we lived down there and usually I'd go around the 2nd corner from there to Riddle & Martin for some delicious subs so we'd have a high-caloric well rounded out meal. I always liked their ice cream and stuff at Magnifico's. They always had great seasonal stuff and cute novelty items as well!
  12. Blue Moon on Kinderkamack in Woodcliff Lake? has outdoor dining. Also The Porter House on Kinderkamack in Montvale and lastly Panera Bread in Woodcliff Lake on Chestnut Ridge Road are three that immediately come to mind! I'll miss these when we move from NJ to the DC area once we sell our home. But I'm sure there are plenty down there.
  13. We went to Fortunato's in Lyndhurst... the food was tasty, the service superb however the staff was a bit over-attentive (we were the only ones there for the first 30 minutes maybe that's why?!) it was freaking my MIL out a wee bit. I got the braised short ribs, hubby got the osso buco, his father got the steak special and his mother got the chicken w/spinach - we shared 2 appetizers the mozzarella one and the eggplant one. Aaron our waiter was wonderful and if you didn't mind the staff hovering often everything was great! The tab was a tiny bit on the pricy side for 4 adults (appx. $200.) but all in all it was very good for a Sunday/holiday supper and everyone enjoyed their food and desserts.
  14. I'm BUMPING this thread back up because it's that time of year again! Anyone taking their special father/father-in-law/father-like person out anywhere good? I'd love any ideas or suggestions... I'm considering perhaps going to a restaurant mentioned in the NJ thread, that is newer. Maybe I'll change my mind! Rosie? Anyone?? Idea's, suggestions for Father's Day Dinner in/near Bergen County NJ (or anywhere up north, but for ME... Bergen County area!) Thanks!
  15. Just a fast update. We went to Davey's and I had the hangar steak and it was made just right. Hubby and I shared an appetizer and got their ham, potato and cheese soup which was decidely different but very tasty. Jeff got the bangers 'n' mash. It came with sweet potato fries (choice of potato) and I asked for steak sauce, though it didn't really need it. Anyhow, I dipped the steak being a creature of habit. The staff was friendly and warm and I would go back again! Also, if they had a few more selections on their menu it wouldn't hurt!
  16. I think we may be very well having a Picnic with SOB! I'll have to talk to hubby about it but Chef Gary's stuff is always good and Mike puts out a good value IMHO.
  17. MmmMMm the menu looks nice.
  18. Tommy have you tried that pub on Kinderkamack yet Davey's Locker ? I was thinking of heading there for an early supper on Tuesday before Mah Jong... since I've lived up here and never been in yet, you game, maybe other Eg's want to go too? Y'all can always PM me if you want to also. http://www.daveyspub.com/ Looks interesting. They have burgers, beers, wings and also RIBS!
  19. Oh no problem! LOL sorry about the sibling sickness, hubby too is very sick stomach flu or somethin of the like, 101+ fever, chills, prayers and hourly feedings to the porcelain throne etc...
  20. Mya arenaria will not be on my menu any day soon... I think it goes back to my childhood. I KNOW those are siphons but we used to call them "piss clams" as a Piney down the shore. The darkened appendages just give me flashbacks to those days when we thought they were the part that "peed" on you when you picked the clams up. So I can't imagine the pleasure or taste of anything that resembles that, entering my mouth with any level of enthusiasm. Sorry! LOL.
  21. That's a big difference in prices. ← Hi Rosie and everyone... King Salmon runs appx 30. pr # Sockeye runs appx 10. pr # So if they are using a King as opposed to Sockeye... King Salmon can run to 2 or 3x the size of a Sockeye and hence the price differential. I hope that clears it up for everyone.
  22. Please let me know where in Bergen County (See Topic) Restaurant Nicholas is... or website or ph#. Thanks! I have never heard of it but I figure if it's closeby I'll give it a try. ← Are you joking? Or have you really never heard of Nicholas? In case you're for real, it's in Middletown, in Monmouth County, several counties south of Bergen. ← AHhhhh I was looking in google for Nicholas restaurant (201) but alas nothing was coming up... then I tried (973) assuming it was nearer to Paterson area. Yes, alas it looks nice but it is a bit of a trip from Bergen County and I apologize... but I had thought I mentioned Bergen County in the topic. If I ever drive 90+ minutes south I will definitely look them up sometime.
  23. I don't see any "tasting menu" listed for Rocca, sorry. Also if anyone else knows of any Tasting Menu's in or near Bergen Co I'd love to hear from you! Even if it means going over to the "dark side" (aka Rockland Co!)
  24. Please let me know where in Bergen County (See Topic) Restaurant Nicholas is... or website or ph#. Thanks! I have never heard of it but I figure if it's closeby I'll give it a try.

    venue

Yes, they are closed per Rosie's posting on NJ Monthly... I never made it there as I would have had difficulties finding adequate parking to meet my needs.
