  1. A good little place for Italian Hot Dogs - my favorite - Is Hot Dog Heaven on Kinderkamack Road in Emerson (adjacent to the train station (A very small one!) and cookie cupboard.) They have nice Italian hot dogs and I tell them to make an Italian Sausage for my husband (it's not on their menu except the old way...just Sausage,Onions,Peppers...) in the same style as their Italian Hot Dog. (Which comes with peppers, onions, potatoes on a thick bread/pita) - they also have nice wraps and pierogi's too! Rutt's hut is very good but so "seedy" IMHO. Another great place for Italian Hot Dogs is right of the parkway about 1 to 1 1/2 miles west off the exit in Irvington Jimmy Buff's Restaurant try this link: http://www.jimmybuff.com/locations.shtml 4 Elmwood Avenue (*corner of Springfield Ave. or is it Bloomfield Avenue?) Irvington, NJ (Not for the faint of heart - it's sorta a "dive" type place - but Oooh so good!) also Dickie Dee's on Bloomfield Avenue... mmmm... let's see.... also Hot Grill in Clifton also Callahan's on Rt 17 (hasbrouck heights?) and the 2nd one on Rt 46 (little ferry?) for an instant "heart stopper" I wholeheartedly suggest getting a foot long with melted (nacho style?) cheese and bacon! or Italian style with an adulteration/side of melted cheese and bacon to dip it in. SEE your CARDIOLIGIST after eating this! ::lol::
  2. White house subs were great when I had one a billion years ago... I'd also opt for the Deli (I hope it's still there?) In Taj Mahal there used to be another good Deli in one of the boardwalk casino's maybe Ballys? But I haven't been down there in like...forever.
  3. Any good pizza places that deliver to River Vale? Maybe a place near westwood, or pearl river? God, to have some good tasting pizza would be wonderful. *SIGH*
  4. Yes, Farrells was by me then in E. Bruns and when I lived up here both locations - actually I liked Jahn's (originally from NY?) up in Union NJ prettymuch. No, the ice cream parlor doesn't carry that but they do carry great home made (a tiny bit pricy) chocolate and great (i mean REAL good) ice cream there. It's halfway down Westwood ave in the shopping district on your right side when going away from the RR tracks. YUM hubby loves the IC there I like the chocolates, the owner makes the IC fresh downstairs in the basement (probably an old "jimmy hoffa" recipe LOL) If you mean the nut shop, never been in there I shall check it! Thanks.
  5. I have a strange craving for candied apples, and NO I don't want to cook them I want to buy them. Not the chocolate ones, nor the fudge or the others - the CANDY ones (the red sweet ones). I don't feel like traipsing through a local fairground nor hanging around a bodega in Paterson or such. So please help me! Where can I find fresh made candied apples in NORTHERN Bergen county? Anyone know any shops nearby? Thanks in advance for your help . (Don't laugh at me... I'm just in the mood for one! and I'm not pregnant.) Last week it was toasted almond ice cream so I bought a box of good humor bars... they're still unopened but tomorrow... ah tomorrow they will be started upon. YUM! I wish there was a good penny candy store up here too... if you know of one of those let me know also! Thanks again a big bunch everyone.
  6. Yup that's the PA Dutch/Amish that I mentioned... I like their mixxed cookies, homemade breads and jams/jellies, hubby liked their strawberry rhubarb pie. They always have such wonderful things that all the good stuff sells out in the first hour or two sometimes. I need to go check out that panz' guy. I figure best thing is to get there at 12:30, listen to some tunes or read a book until they open up that way I can park nearby. Just a suggestion! Enjoy... you have to love my town.
  7. I know ace carries chips and sometimes home depot does but this link/place has a huge selection and you may want to try a bit of each to find the mix you like. Me, I like apple and hickory about 1/3 and 2/3 in that order... (or mesquite) Also people swear by those bisquettes. ::shrug:: here's the link: http://www.sausagesource.com/Merchant2/ merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EQ-LCHICKORY&Affiliate=froogle just put those 2 halfs together on the link. I didn't want to run off the page! I hope this helps. Also if you want a fun side I saw this on T.v. the other day you can make "fruit skewers" on the side - alternate strawberry halves, blueberries, red & black raspberries, sliced fruit of choice like pineapple... it's pretty too and great to make the day before for fast "dessert". Goodluck.
  8. According to the NJ website, River Vale begins July 7th. Oh! and they just called me back, so that confirms it. Is it Rivervale or River Vale? I see it both ways on the various websites. Actually to be precise it is River Vale (but some folks mis-spell it) or if you're in doubt zip code 07675 (which encompasses River Vale, Old Tappan and Westwood NJ) I only know because I live here. I love the PA dutch truck they have great cookies and pies and breads and stuff. Also all the fresh veggies and fruits some are very reasonably priced. They are always there on Thursdays from Mid July more or less until around/about Thanksgiving or Halloween time - I always forget which. (usually first snow or frost or so...) They are on Mark Lane? in River Vale which is if you're heading north on River Vale Road from Westwood ave it's a left before the country club, if you're heading south it's the right (NOT the left or you'll make a heck of a splash) after the country club. They usually have signs. (You can always follow the bike-path signs too)
  9. Wonder where Montvale is. Well that's why there's MapQuest. ← If you're a piney best way to say this is the "jersey way" ... take exit 172 (last exit in NJ about 1/4 mi past the last rest stop) exit ramp turn right off the ramp and continue on Grand Avenue due east until you see the RR crossing/RR tracks. Turn right at the gas station there and then loop or meander your way across the street and you'll see it to the left of the CVS plaza there it's an inconspicuous little square brick building. They have fresh lobsters (and sometimes crabs until they run out (quickly!) and great seafood and semolina italian bread (I always grab one of these and stuff butter and garlic inside, wrap in foil and bake for about 20-30 min or so in a 350 oven or until done YUM ) I like their swordfish steaks also I love the biggest shrimp they have on sale there and sometimes I pick up nice stuff behind me in the frozen area such as soup or seafood with pasta or some goodies they may have. I hope this helps you. OH while you're there and heading back home there's a bagel shop next to a small Citgo? gas station in a plaza sort of catty/corner to that gas station - they have SUPERB bagels and spreads and coffee and stuff... great to grab for any road trip! Also on Rt 18 in East Brunswick there's a seafood shack or something like that that is real good too just like the Montvale one - I used to go there ALL the time when I lived in Central NJ - it's on the north? side across from the shoprite plaza (huge plaza but they are about 1/2 block before it right on the highway) I hope this helped you some. P.s. sorry about the edits - I'm new to all these forums! If I could just get the last post to show up first I'd be happy! (LOL)
  10. Yes, star tavern in the "other oranges" is good too... OOPS! Heh - but I was on a segue at that hour in the morning I guess LOL - Starlite is an oldy but goody in West Orange - not too far from my favorite little florist-type place Metropolitan Plant Exchange (they have about 4 locations and if you make your own arrangements they are pretty inexpensive and gorgeous and FINE to bring to a romantic dinner for two!) Thanks again!
  11. Since I live pretty close to the border of NY I almost consider it part of Bergen county. I've found a few restaurants good that border on Montvale NJ and NY. I've included names, addresses and telephone numbers because when I read some of the forums I go crazy trying to find these places you post about! LOL So... A few of my personal favorites (one of each to tease you!) include: The Porter House 125 N Kinderkamack Rd Montvale, NJ 07645 (201 307 6300) Twins India Palace 38 Orangetown Shopping Ctr Orangeburg, NY 10962 (845 365 3222) Rancho Toro Loco 94 Old Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg, NY 10962 (845 359-1903) Royal Siam Thai Cuisine 22 E Central Ave Pearl River, NY 10965 (845 735-5906) Picnic is great for food to bring home at 180 Kinderkamack Road, Emerson, NJ 07630 (201 262-5505) - tell the owner Christine that Stacey from around the corner sent you! (She's the owner and fantastic chef! My god her tilapia and other stuff is pure heaven!) Marra's on Kinderkamack Road is superb for picking up stuff for home it is either Emerson or Oradell NJ here - the same family owns Marra's Restaurant in Ridgewood NJ I've heard - never been to the restaurant though. For delivery on days I work from home I like a place called: Itsy's Gourmet on Park Ave in Park Ridge NJ (201 930-1873) they make wraps and great sandwiches and salads and my favorite heart stopper - bacon, egg & cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel! MMmmMm and it's not too far from my other favorite place "The Park Steakhouse" also on Kinderkamack road in Park Ridge (a little pricy at the park but real nice quality and flavor!) I hope you enjoy some of my choices and I hope you have some you can suggest up here near River Vale NJ THE Only Thing Is -- I'm not really into Italian food, even though (Romanza is around the corner they are good too!) but any other suggestions would be very welcome!!!!!
  12. There is a nice place up here that has pretty fresh seafood and I like going there they clean and de-vein the shrimp in a jiffy too... It's called: Anchor Seafood they are on 10 South Kinderkamack Road Montvale, NJ 07645-2113 and this is their Phone # it is (201) 930-9170 They don't have a restaurant or anything but great food and nice bread and nice refrigerated and frozen food and stuff too.
  13. Actually though it's not quite in NJ - Mount Fuji in Hillburn NY (about 2 Miles from Mahwah/Ramsey) can easily seat that and more in their "The Views" room down below the regular restaurant even though I imagine that their regular restaurant could accomodate that as well....
  14. I used to like a small place called Coffaro's when I lived in South River. However I am yet to find a good delivery place near my home town only one comes close and it's called City Pizza in Westwood... and Nellies and Kinchley's is the best if you drive locally (IMHO!) I'd appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions for a good delivery place up here I'd really REALLY appreciate it. BTW to the earlier posts Starlite was the best after sledding down the golf course on a snowy winter day, nothing like their hot steamy cheese laden slices to cheer up a kid with a cold, snow-caked bottom!
