  1. Where in Livingston is it? Thanks.
  2. Notice that Flemings is on the list on the health check this time? Just a note.
  3. The Restaurant in Hackensack does last time I was there you may want to call or check their online menu. Also Porterhouse in Montvale and Old 76 House (again call/check online menu!) I love good Pate , my digestive system does NOT.
  4. Sometimes on a weekend night I'd like to try a supper buffet but not your "standard fare" chinese or american or a mix of that. We are looking for perhaps an indian buffet or something different. We've enjoyed greenfields a bit, but that grows tiresome - we tried Imperial Dynasty? in Saddle Brook for brunch, and also Minado. Again, we want to try suppertime. What I am really looking for is a variety not really a quantity. Preferably Indian, Thai, Greek, Middle-Eastern. NOT Chinese or Italian or American, please! Thank you in advance for your suggestions and your help - I want something NEW!!
  5. Rosie there is a woman across from the Montvale Train station (she lives above the hardware store with her husband) - they used to have a shop where the bagel place is now on RR ave? (it could be Kinderkamack Road at that point?) If you go into the bagel shop or into the hardware store and ask for her (just ask for the woman who made the great cakes/pies) they will point you to her or give you her telephone # she will make anything / everything from scratch and she makes the best tasting pies or cakes anyone has known. It is a shame they didn't have enough business when they were open but I had the delight to try it once and word of mouth got around and everyone was buying from her for a while - I think the "high rent" finished them off though. I wish I had her telephone # for you. Actually also I hear sugarflake makes special requests but I am unsure of that also with advance notice I would think the Shoprite in Ramsey (and they make HEAVENLY desserts) would accomodate you. Goodluck please let me know how it worked out for you!
  6. ALSO Route 17 in the Paramus area is FINALLY going to also have an Olive Garden for those who are the occasional fan of chains. (I surely prefer non-chains but I like the darn breadsticks and the occasional special there!) YUM!
  7. I rarely cook (it's mostly take out, delivery or one of us picks something up or orders it by phone...) HOWEVER... may I suggest the following: Buy skewers and put on them fresh fruit blueberries, raspberries, halved strawberries, quartered sliced, pineapple, seedless grapes and (sliced melon slices or anything you like that is in season, I'd avoid citrus and fruits that change colors in the heat - so most are ok too!) and alternate them for a pretty appearance. You don't need much prep time and you can make this one to two days before depending on where you store them and how many you want to make! It's quick, easy and very tasty I hear. (I only eat banana's, watermelon, and macintosh apples heh!) I hope this helps your little dilemma a bit! Have a great weekend.
  8. When I go out I look for handicapped access or armless chairs for accessible seating. So far my favorite "weekend" places are for Asian/Thai/Indian food: Bhoj - Saddle Brook - Indian food Saffron – E. Hanover – Indian food Raja Palace Route 46 E Lodi- Indian food India Chef - Lodi? (When I run for a quick good lunch from my office) Kailash (Also Kinara?) - Ridgewood - Indian / Thai food Pimaan - Emerson - Thai food Minado - Japanese "Asian" food Sapphire Restaurant Bergen 37 River edge Road Tenafly - Middle Eastern food Twins India Palace 38 Orange town Shopping Center Orangeburg, NY 10962 (845 365 3222) Royal Siam Thai Cuisine 22 E Central Ave Pearl River, NY 10965 (845 735-5906) Picnic is great for food (mixed bag! From American to Asian to Indian at times!) Best to bring home at 180 Kinderkamack Road, Emerson, NJ 07630 (201 262-5505) - tell the owner Christine that Stacey from around the corner sent you! (She's the owner and fantastic chef! My god her tilapia and other stuff like Jerk chicken or curry dishes... are pure heaven!) NOTE: All these places are within 15 minutes of Paramus NJ except for Saffron!
  9. Well we stopped at Guru (exit 130) in Fredericksburg, VA it was VERY good, Sonny's a chain I like in greensville and other various places (stax?) were good too. Thanks for all the suggestions unfortunately there wasn't enough time or "maps" to find to get around.
  10. There used to be (it could still be there?) a great italian restaurant/pizzaria in Ramsey across from the shoprite that had home-made chocolate covered and ones without chocolate (cannoli's) that were real good. If it's still there you should buy alot!
  11. I watched it in between reruns of NYPD blue... Can someone please tell me, where was that Korean restaurant and what is it's name? It did look appetizing. Bakeries again, in NJ are a dime a dozen you just have to know where to go so you've seen one you've seen em all it's just the taste that sets them apart and trotting out that blond chef (mario?) or something or whatever that guy's name is doesn't make anything better or worse for me... I grow weary of him on the food channels and such.
  12. Yes, thank you it was very helpful and I printed out several choices for the picky and the non picky folks in my family! Much appreciated.
  13. Anyone have any suggestions I am leaving on Friday early morning from N/E NJ to Greenville, SC to visit my sister in Ware Shoals... any good places close to the highway is good... I plan on stopping at Sonny's for BBQ but would like other "home style" choices - THANKS!
  14. You may want to try Whole Foods they have every kind of water I ever seen, they're all over and ridgewood nj too.
  15. If you like Greek or middle eastern food may I suggest: It's greek to me in Ridgewood or Westwood is good - take out (or small eat in area) OR A taste of Greece in River Edge/Oradell border is good OR Babylon ? (by where levitz was in River Edge) But for my $$$ I love a place called Sapphire - it's a little "gem" of a place it's location is here: Sapphire Restaurant (201) 871-4550 37 Riveredge Rd Tenafly, NJ 07670 I've been to a place called Samdan up the street and if you're fat they seem to not treat you as well as if you weren't... we saw this when we went with our fit in laws they sat us quickly and treated us well yet when we went with heavy friends they avoided us like the plague and sat us very slowly... They even asked if we had reservations when I had called not 30 minutes before to ask if we would need it being Valentine's day, when I mentioned that they had said we didn't need reservations per my earlier call, they glared down their nose at us and after 30 minutes - I guess they thought we'd get disgusted at waiting.... when the dining area was only 70% full --- and we didn't --- so eventually they sat us and the service sucked. (the food is always great there though.)
  16. Jyoti I believe...
  17. I've been going here since the day they opened and the food is great and the staff are nice and helpful (the men are a bit reserved but nice too once you get to know them!) Even if you are not keen on indian food I suggest trying the butter chicken (for the pro's this is either chicken tikka marsala or chicken makhani and I have recipes if you want!) and naan it has no curry taste to it and is not spicy and is delicious. I get the lamb and chicken and naan and basmati rice and a coke (combo #?) heh... very delicious stuff. Also if you want something truly delicious and are near routes 4/17 may I also suggest picking up some food on the way home a taste of greece on kinderkamack in river edge- their food is heaven.
  18. Hi Curlz! My husband and I go here once a month and make sure we do NOT eat any meals before going that day. Elvis (lol yes, that IS his name) is usually our waiter (free refills on drinks and he keeps my glass topped off) it used to be called Green fields Churrascaria (SIC) or something like that - it has been since for about 1 year now owned by someone else. COME with a big appetite and eat VERY slowly (over 1 hour heh) They revamped it, they usually have a chicken stroganoff type dish, several asian and italian and brazilian dishes and bring stuff on skewers to your table as well (brazilian bbq style etc...) They have grilled pineapple (ask them for it if they don't bring it out...) also chicken hearts (UGH - same thing ask if they dont bring it out) my favorite is the chicken terriyaki skewers, the little steak terriyaki, the pork and the lamb, the thing that looks like (I think it is?) flank steak or a steak on the skewer avoid, it is often a bit too gristly and is not as nice tasting as the rest of the items. I hope this helped you and p.s. thanks about the heads up on the tea things!
  19. I might add in Sonny's BBQ it's a chain I discovered on the way to Florida and the food and quality is great for the money! Please help me too! I am heading from Northeastern NJ to Ware Shoals, SC to visit my sister for the first time down there a week from today... I will be solely on 95 or major highways the whole way and since its a long trip I dont want to wander far off the beaten track. Any great restaurant suggestions or ho/motel suggestions (with a pool!) would be greatly appreciated. (of course there is a Sonny's BBQ down that way so I'm going there!) Please pass the word on - I need your help - thanks! email me as well please Anonymouze@aol.com
  20. Hi Curlz... where or what is whole foods or please tell me town, ph# or anything? I had it over ice again (the tea) at Minado and god it was so good, my mother-in-law said it has virtually no flavor, but I told her that was one of the reasons I liked it no "aftertaste" (she doesn't have a delicate palate! LOL) - slight tea flavor, delicious soft "citrus" scent (very very light to the nose) and no "fuzzy tongue"... like you get from some teas. YUM!
  21. Okay, maybe (just maybe....) they were having an "off" day the day we went, they gave us crushed crackers in a basket with "ketchup stained" packets of other "munchables" and stale rolls. I ordered a chicken item which I don't recall since it was over 2 years ago and it was so dry that I could have sanded my feet with it, the tomato slices where white not even barely pink(and I am allergic to tomato's I asked for no tomato's so that didn't bother me that they weren't nice ripe ones.) My husband ordered a burger and it was bloody raw in the middle he ordered it (likes it) well done or at the least medium well. My grandmother who is 90 had ordered a salad and the greens were dark on the edges and wilted but she said it's ok I just wanted to nibble anyhow. So maybe they had an off day? The only thing I enjoyed was my coke and my mushroom soup... the crackers should be checked before recycling them to the clients - at least pull out the packets that are crushed or have food from the previous person on them... SHEESH. The waitress had to be called back 3 times, once because my grandmother asked for a cup of coffee, and she served her ice cold coffee, obviously she didn't check to see if it was fresh made. Yes, years ago (maybe 20?) they did have good food, lines around the corners constantly and not just on fri and weekends. But unless you want steak (or maybe a burger if you send it back if it's raw!) I still would not go there AT all. Go nearby to the Manor or anywhere in Montclair or Verona. I still stand by my first comment and I asked my husband perhaps I was too harsh his quote was "I would not feed it to the dogs, we don't need more vet bills!"
  22. I'm a "piney" and a Jerseyan and I constantly hear folks thinking that NJ is chem plants (like you see by the airport & on the tpke.) and cement and factories and commercial spaces. (or the stupid question what exit?! -- I rarely ask that LOL!) When I think of NJ I think of its beautiful beaches, the mountains in the northwest part of the state and all the wildlife found throughout every town I've ever lived in. For example in my current town I have chipmunks, rabbits, deer, squirrel, raccoons, (stinky) skunks, birds (tons!), foxes and even coyotes and bears on occassions. My previous town (Montvale) too! I grew up in Tuckerton (known for it's little lake and seaport) and in Livingston NJ and these were all pleasant bedroom communities (aka suburbs). I would never live anywhere else unless we HAD to move for business. The only drawbacks are pollution from nearby NY, "ciavones" from Rockland county and NYC that come down to "joisey" for the weekends and make this area a torture to shop in on Saturdays.... I thank god for blue laws! It's nice and quiet and song-filled each morning and I love it that way. Hooray for NJ!
  23. I found that even though I am a coke addict I found a second love... I found it at Minado it's the Iced (green) tea! I even found the site for it and it's great stuff but I'd like to find more 0 calorie teas without any aftertaste and 0 or very low calories that taste good - I had a raspberry? one at cheesecake factory in Hackensack once that tasted good. Also if someone knows where to purchase this at a discounted or wholesale rate please let me know... 36.00 a case seems a bit steep. (pun intended?) Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Here's the site: http://www.itoen.com/tea/index.cfm?sp=product&catID=1&id=104 (No comments on the color - I still giggle when I see it - my immaturity is showing!)
  24. You meant Tices Farm (Chestnut Ridge Road - Woodcliff Lake NJ) most likely - now it is a strip mall/plaza - it was a farm up until about 3 years ago. Van Ripers I forget where it was but I recall the name it's gone - also Nettie? Och's in West Orange is all but gone they will (or are by now?) building a development there.
  25. Just a side note I wouldn't send my dog to pal's cabin in W. Orange... years ago it was great now unless you're a tried and true steak eater or like mushroom soup (yummy there) - most of their food falls short of anything I'd personally recommend. Okay, call me Ms Picky?! P.S. on a side note the Harold's in Parsippany has big sandwiches like the one in Edison? I heard that our old family friend (one of my my grandpa's friends from years ago [My grandfather passed on about 15 yrs ago] -so they don't really know me...) owns/runs the one down in Edison he used to own the Claremont which was a fantastic place on the corner of Bloomfield avenue behind what used to be a white castle, now I think it's all a car lot for some big car dealer. We heard the one in Parsippany is another person/owner all together. Please feel free to update me on my information! Thanks...
