I told my husband, Jason, that you are going to get me in trouble... because those pictures make me want to go back again and it's less than 2 weeks our rule is 8-10 weeks between restaurant visits so we don't gain anymore weight! If those were women and men instead of food I'd probably be a pornographer or something illegal... I nearly drooled on my keyboard. STOP Jason STOP!

My next item to try at Silver Oak Bistro... and I've had pastichio too at the greek places. Kudos to Silver Oak you don't cease to amaze us yet!

Anything like Saint's Alp Teahouse but in North NJ

There's a place (korean bakery) that has bubble tea and higher priced (home-made?) desserts *but boy they looked good* in the same plaza as Arek about 1 block or so down and across from the chinese supermarket on kinderkmack if that helps. I don't recall the name. -
I know exactly where River Vale is, that's why I recommended places in Westwood and Hillsdale... What's in Northern Essex? ← Heh I wasn't just replying to you Menton... but tug and others too. Sorry if this confused you. (some folks unlike you and I don't know where River Vale is and mix it up frequently with River Dale which is closer to pompton plains area)

I could be wrong but wasn't Ronnies bagels one of the ones on the health reject list that rosie posts from the record? I mix up all these bagel joints. I've been eyeing butch's it sounds good also I'll have to check that one out and Wilke's if they deliver to me that'd be good too! Thanks menton. If you need to google I'm in 07675 (a bit FAR away from northern Essex county for delivery)

So far I'll add Silver Oak Bistro, India Chef, and Bhoj each different each good.

Yes I agree Ridgewood has a variety of offerings but I live in River Vale so it would be prohibitive to take a lunch break there if I give myself the standard hour. If anyone knows of any places in/near River Vale, Westwood, Park Ridge or Montvale that delivers to River Vale please PLEASE let me know! Thanks.

I had to revive this seeing that I need another delivery option for my area when my favorite place runs out of food that look so darn tasty or if they can't deliver, because I can't order like a "normal" person, I eat when I have time! -grin- I called Picnic in Emerson on Friday around 3PM and they had so many tasty things for delivery on their online menu - but most were gone at that hour (being well after lunch!) so I had to scrounge around in my fridge and wasn't happy with leftovers! Next time I'll call them early and put it aside till I have time to eat it. That being said if my favorite places aren't available (picnic-emerson or itsy's gourmet -park ridge) for delivery and I don't want just chinese or pizza/italian stuff... could someone kindly recommend another delivery alternative. I'm tired of fallback positions using Domino's(ugh), pomplilio's (which IS good), china pavilion etc... I mainly need something that is tasty, easy, I won't have to cook and I can pay them by credit card. I work as a corporate level headhunter out of my home and frequently I am too busy to break for lunch and run out the door. Thanks everyone, I hope there is someone up here who can help me!

I stopped smoking cold turkey in 1980, so can you 25 years later! I'd be glad to help you. However we need to have this bill passed it will help anyone who is a victim of second hand smoke. Here is a link that may help you learn more from the American Cancer Org. My step-father died of complications of cancer, my younger sister had cancer in the 80's, my grandmother had cancer and I strongly believe these cancers came from smoking or being exposed to second hand smoke in all cases. Let's hope this bill passes, I agree write your representatives, email them or call them! http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/..._to_Smoking.asp

- for rich and cook and others like him...As the walking working talking "Super-morbidly" obese (at least I think I'm alive, though sometimes I do wonder why or if this is just a strange kafka-rian dream) let me state so do cancer patients, bulemics, anorexics, drug users and everyone sooner or later, "strain the medical care system"... BUT that is NOT the point, the point is smoking does affect other people dining/working or just in a room directly, at that moment, be it infants or senior citizens it has no discretionary powers who's lung to enter or not. AND also sad news for 75% of you folks who live in the U.S. Obesity is also defined as a BMI (body mass index) over 30 kg. Patients with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight, but not obese. More than half of the U.S. population is overweight. (this is an old statistic it has risen since...) But being obese is different from being overweight. An adult male is considered obese when his weight is 20% or more over the maximum desirable for their height; a woman is considered obese at 25% or more than this maximum weight. Anyone more than 100 pounds overweight is considered morbidly obese. So if you are a woman and you are the average height 5'5" and over 150 you are overweight (180+ to be obese)! (most folks I KNOW are either one or the other!) and if you're a man and you're 6' 0" and over 180 you are overweight (215+ to be obese)! So who is to say who is REALLY a strain on the health system. It all comes down to common courtesy and common sense. SIMPLE.

Not to be a "PITA" but (I think I always ask this, maybe too often??) what is their address? Is there any web links? Any pictures? Any other food besides meat that you would suggest?? Thank you - hugs and I appreciate your tolerance of my silly questions...

Also I have to mention two different occasions years ago that smoking affected my situation. On one occasion, once I temped somewhere, there were only 2 non-smokers one non-smoker was me! I walked in there and felt like I was undersea it was so bad, thank god I was only there 1 week but I had to use my steroidal inhalers like crazy I think I put 5 pounds on that week alone! LOL The 2nd time I was an office manager and had to hire some temps and I let them know if they needed to smoke, smoking outside was okay but I had to let one go her hair, clothing, everything REEKED and when she walked by all us non-smokers glanced at each other... she was definitely a heavy duty smoker. A lot of smokers don't notice how much they smell of cigarette smoke. UGH! It's just plain nasty and there is no NEED to smoke really!

MMmmmmMM I love Pimaan... but back to the thread before I "hijack" another (winking at someone) Any good/great pizza places in or near the westwood/rivervale/montvale/park ridge area? (preferably delivery?) Thanks!
-
Funny I don't recall seeing it... I do see Marra's and also Rosa's (which isn't bad) in emerson, and then City Pizza? but I think that's in westwood at that point. If anyone knows if it's good or knows about it (or any OTHER good ones up this way please let us ALL know!) Thanks.

I have a trio from hell I call it... I have CHF, Severe/Acute Asthma and Severe Anemia so it's hard enough to get one oxygen cell to my bluish lungs. This can't come too soon for me, that is the only reason we don't go to some places more often - the level of smoke is sometimes bad enough that my tongue and lips tingle and I feel dizzy! PLUS I am stupid enough to have been a smoker from age 15-18 3 packs a day (chain smoking) kind of glad I stopped when I got back from the middle east, so us "ex-smokers" I hear are the worst critics. I vote AYE for the cessation of smoky, haze filled restaurants and places.

I have to comment I love Lreda's "tag" LOL it tickles me pink. Mine is a bit strange but some folks will get it... P.S. I'm glad they remedied the situation... There are not many "great tasting" places in central jersey and my experience there years ago was nice, as I mentioned.

Been to both and both are great in different ways. I'd best describe (look for my posts and you'll see comments on both too) kirkers as "homey / flashback 50's semi-smoke-filled diner style" I have asthma and can't sit near the bar but the other room is good, the food is like "mom" would make, gracious serving sizes and great taste and real good prices. Black Forest is more upscale and very tasty I took my inlaws there but it was lost on them more or less... and more modern also they are about 2 and 3x the price but the quality is worth it as well. So if I were you I'd toss a coin go "comfy" to kirkers or dress up a wee bit and go to Black Forest (I wouldn't go there in jogging pants or jeans LOL) you'll find that you may like both but I love the weis beer at kirkers and his home-made strudel and the authentic taste of his "mutant" (I've had HUGE duck servings there!) ducks, when he has them. Hubby loved the "game" dish at Black Forest, I had duck at both but each one was different and great!

I went to Iron Horse once in 12 years living up this way and was not really impressed. Houston is a bit far for a quick lunch for me though I have been known to stretch lunch 15 minutes by going to Indian Chef (wink/wink) but I know I can stroll in and out of there pretty fast. My fallback positions are ordering from delivery places nearby. I was really looking for something as close as possible to westwood (sorry but not Iron Horse) something newer or different but not your typical lunch fare. I used to love Boulevard Grille when I worked in Mahwah because it's decor was "peaceful" when soloing for lunch and I loved their sweet potato fries which they served me with anything I ordered after they got to know me. I just wish they were closer to the Montvale / Pearl River area.

Man, that looks yummy... do you think you'll make deliveries up to Bergen county? (wink/wink) hehe... drooling on my keyboard. Sheesh, I'll have to see you when I visit my grandmother in west orange!
-
Been there often... I love that place and their home-style butter with either sundried tomatoes or roasted red peppers in it is tasty on their hot buns! Whenver I have a chance I go there I've even taken a "LONG" lunch there a few times when I know I won't get caught and it's a particularly lovely afternoon! Thanks. I LOVE that place... I just need more of a "burger joint" that's not fast-food and something I can easily wobble/hobble into and out of pretty fast if I take my normal lunch break between calls and sharpening my spear.

I think (think being the operative word) you can get it in one of two places nearby Arak on Kinderkamack Road in Oradell/River Edge. Also at National Food Warehouse but I'd be careful what I buy there everytime they have stuff past it's due date and bad on sale and sometimes I forget myself and don't check the dates! (UGH)

I ate at the Frog & the Peach about a dozen years ago on my 30th birthday. It actually was quite good back then however I felt the price was more than it should have been for the quality and serving size. I've had better food at "The Manor" in west orange, "The Restaurant" - though a bit pricy... in Hackensack and nice atmosphere and very nice food at The Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack as well as The Old '76 house in Old Tappan, NY. So if you are looking for upscale maybe try something different or new and just let friends know how good or bad it was (like you did!) however, my next place to try (and I hear it's good) is the Saddle River Inn? or something like that nearby, I'm hoping to get there for my birthday and back to the Silver Oak for our Anniversary or vice versa!

I'm not a big meat eater myself and my tastes run bizarre when I do eat meat. I prefer hubby's home-made bison (or is that buffalo?) burgers or McD's or white castles... (go figure!) I haven't found any good "burger" joints up this way around paramus or hackensack or points north if you know of any I can run into for a solo lunch or a solo supper please let me know. Hubby's on a "I'll make what I want to eat" kick so it's everyone to themselves... so I'm open for anything interesting or different where soloing doesn't make me feel funny.
-
Actually for a friendly place with great food try Kirker's in Hawthorne. German food real REAL good quality the decor is dated! (think "Flashback" 50's or so!) LOL and the owner is a big fella with superb food and I strongly recommend (even for us non-beer drinkers) the Weis beer it is really interesting in taste. P.S. you MUST have their home-made strudel it is out of this world (ala mode!)

I was hoping to bump into TKrongold & her hubby there... but we dashed out the door at 8:05PM seeing people outside and since we were finished. I have to add, that our waitress was very nice as were all the staff there, and this is a place each of you should make the trip to in my not so humble opinion! The location is easily accessible and there is metered parking so bring some quarters unless you come in the evening I think it's free parking after 6pm but I'm not sure. We finished our post-bistro evening with a chilled Riesling toast (I find most champagnes too dry for me and I like the fruity & sweet taste of that wine!) some chocolate covered marshmallows to munch upon while watching Dick Clark on T.V. (that was a bit sad) some chocolate covered oreos and some honeyed peanuts... so we ended the evening on a sweet note for a sweet New Year!
