  1. Any restaurants with a "view" AND entertainment/music? I went to Michaelsons? Years ago in Haverstraw area and it was a beautiful view... I also like the place at the end of Route 59 in East Nyack, the restaurant sits right on the water and they open the "doors" on nice days. Could be on either side of the NY/NJ border. I'll be with people with hearty appetites who don't like "cracker sized" servings on plates. (heh what can I say, they're HUNGRY!) Thanks again everyone & especially Liz, Margo, Tongo, Rooftop and anyone I may have missed.
  2. I think I saw some fresh, delicious bread pudding once in Whole Foods you may want to check their deli area or the deli area of something like Market Basket or Abma's Farm. I got a great Noodle Kugel at Whole Foods so goodluck!
  3. Eric and Matt though I've not been to your place yet, however based upon friends comments and what I've seen on Ch 7 and other "P.R." you've had, I've recommended some friends go to your place so this is from a Blog I just wanted to show you the support and comments that have been said so here's a paste (edited to protect the innocent - wink/grin) Friend in Essex County: I can't believe that! What a stroke of bad luck, poor guys! We were just there on Thursday for lunch. I informed my co-worker and she asked to pass a message along that when they rebuild, could they please be open on Sunday? I guess she brought her mother and daughter there a few weeks ago and they were closed. That's terrible about the fire though. I had no idea, I don't pass it usually so I didn't notice anything strange. Keep me posted, we're turning into AHD Groupies! 03:50 PM on 02/27/2006 by Essex County Friend Beatrix near Middlesex/Monmouth County What's AHD? I'm in central Jersey, so I might be able to check it out. 03:52 PM on 02/27/2006 by Beatrix near M/M Counties Hi Beatrix - from Friend in Essex County, "Amazing Hot Dog" here in Verona. It's actually right down the street from where I work. Stacey knows about the owners, and AHD from another site and told me about the place so we checked it out a few times (wink/grin). Good Stuff! I really hope they reopen :-( Well - I hope you reopen with at least half a day Sundays for the park-goers! Like 11-6 or something. Anyhow like I said before next time I'm down in your county I'll be there with belt off... or is that bells on?
  4. My friends and I went out last night to Lee's Hawaiian in Lyndhurst about 2 miles from Rt 3.... we had a nice supper which consisted of an appetizer of "Pu-Pu Platter", Garlic Shrimp, Lychee Nut Duck and Fong Wong Gai (which I had been thinking of for many years, since I last had it in W. Orange at Golden China? which is no longer there.) which all tasted pretty good. So anyhow we got there at 8pm finished by 9pm then the Karaoke began... lol The guy in the hawaiian shirt did sing (and dance - OH MY! ) to What a feeling from flash dance... we laughed our heads off it was so funny... he was offkey (on purpose?) and all over the place with the song (made Elvis' drunk days look good! ) but we really did enjoy the many real good singers and the one or two that were, like myself beginners in Karaoke. Then this one guy who had a velvet voice and sung from Elvis to Springsteen and I and two other nice gals from the next table (they were also celebrating birthdays!) all got up and sang "Summer Lovin'" from Grease and everyone applauded us heavily when we were done, my friends said "you guys were really great, I don't know why you were so nervous!" - Anyhow, it was a fun night and good food with plenty of left-overs and it was under $75.00 w/drinks which was nice too! I know we will definitely be going back for the Fri or Sat Night Karaoke it was FUN!
  5. I'm sorry to hear about your fire. After all your hard work, great p.r. and folks who are happy with your product and all that hard work you did on securing your approvals (FINALLY) from the town just to get started... well this had to be a kick in the pants , I'm sure you'll be back in operation again in no time flat! Goodluck and all the best to you.
  6. Me too! I always mix up Tenafly and Teaneck. To compare prices of homes, apples to apples you can see for yourself by using: http://www.njmls.com I think I'll stay in my neck of the woods. Those areas seems to me to be a strange eclectic mix of "blue collar" (most of my neighbors are Doctors, Attorneys, Engineers and Private Medium to Large business owners) they also seem to have some upscale homes as well as quite a few mom & pop shops/storefronts and other commercial and light to medium industrial businesses. The one thing my town can boast is not having more than one gas station within it's confines, no industrial businesses several gorgeous golf courses (One is Private) as well as no residential street lighting, that is if I recall correctly... it is less "citified" more bucolic and woodsy.
  7. Actually a good example was that great tasting puerto rican/hispanic food place (Sazon) - the owner made great mofongo and other cultural dishes from her region but in Ridgewood the clientele (People who shop there with their kids during the week and weekends) weren't the type who could appreciate it... they like more "main stream" types of choices (I notice the brick-oven pizza place always full of young families when I drive through town also the pancake house?) anyhow this is how it seems to me, so now (and for this we are VERY lucky... ) in the place where it was is Silver Oak Bistro! I'm sad to hear about Sapphire in Tenalfy, though the food was very tasty and had a great authenticity to it IMHO the next best thing would be Babylon in River Edge by where Hoffman Koos used to be... great Middle Eastern food at that place.
  8. Anyone have the BBQ at Silver Oak Bistro yet in Ridgewood? I had a bit of their sauce with my amuse bouche "home-made" potato chips. That BBQ sauce was reminiscent of our time living/visiting/staying in Texas, it was reaaaaal GOOD!
  9. I'm very jealous having skipped lunch to go to Mt. Fuji* tonight. (I need room to eat there!) I was eyeing the ribs on their menu today and thought mmm should i get it for tom'w and I thought nah, tomorrow's another day, but she's CLOSED! *See my comments in the NY forum. She's catering tom'w so it's leftovers for me! ::whine::
  10. Did I miss the duck? I had the thai wrap today and it was scrumptious as I mentioned in the main forums. I love peking duck with slivered cucumbers hoisin and daikon (I don't like leeks/scallions -ugh-) heh... I'll peep at your menu but if I missed it let me know when you'll make it again! Thanks.
  11. Don Shula's Steakhouse DIRECTLY across from the airport is people friendly (especially business men!) I have dined there on a "comp" from a major cable company and was overjoyed at the food and service. I hope this link helps you! http://www.donshula.com/steak2/newark/menu.htm This is their menu you can always go back to their main link. I personally am not adventurous around newark much, if you want to be more adventurous you can go 15 minutes away to Jerusalem Pizza in Elizabeth its very safe there and I'm a VERY nervous person in most cities. I'm a PINEY!
  12. Ideally about take out/delivery or pick-up, I won't balk if folks talk about where they dined for lunch or supper since I don't run the forums! LOL I took out from Bhoj as well as ate there last week but I didn't mention that we took out 1 pound of various good foods for friends! YUM. Today I ordered (being Wednesday) from Picnic in Emerson. I ordered for lunch and supper, the thai sandwich special and the rustic italiano both sound fantastic! Tomorrow I will be picking up from boston market since I'm in the mood for comfort foods this week. How about you Menton and everyone else what did you pick up or order today ? Updated 135PM - I ate half of each, it was hard to decide since both tasted really good! The bread (one was an "olive bread" with nice black olives and a whole-wheat type flavor to it... real nice!) was superb as well - Christine mentioned that the bread was from a bakery called Balthezar? or something... I am really looking forward to supper in 5 hours - if I have the room! These were delicious and filling, I may have to do an extra 15 minutes of exercise in the pool.
  13. How was waterwheel?Do they have an online site? Also does Bandito? Thanks!
  14. Sounds great, I wish there was a cooking club in Northern Bergen County NJ even though I don't cook I'd love to chip in or try or both! I had a black bean and chocolate salsa once with some jalapeno's in it... it was quite tasty but I can't recall. Here is a small recipe: Cocoa Dip for Fruit 1 c. non-fat vanilla yogurt (or low-fat) 1 T. unsweetened cocoa powder Sliced Banana's, Peaches, Strawberries and Apples.(any chocolate-friendly fruit!) Alternate fruit on platter, put dip in middle and enjoy! YUM!
  15. I liked the carrots and ?parsnips? combo you had with the meat the other day... if you could incorporate into a sandwich that'd be marvelous. My biggest problem is that I am ALLERGIC to raw tomatoes so I often ask for only sundried tomatoes and sometimes get both... and have to remove the raw tomatoes. Something made with sundried tomatoes, garlic, artichoke hearts and avocado would be real tasty too.
  16. Today Monday, I had my leftovers from Silver Oak Bistro as my supper... the delicious duck nuked up perfect and the shoestring potatoes! Then I had the funny pancakes I got from 318 Broad in Palisades park for my dessert well... 2 out of the 3 they were delicious like french toast or something? It was like potato pancakes type taste with brown sugar/cinnamon or something like that inside very VERY tasty when rewarmed up! Tuesday I may order or make somethin from the fridge.... let you know soon! What did you have today? or planning anything special for pick up/take out this week?
  17. The place on broad was a bit pricy for the kimchee but everything was hot and fresh and good! I love shrimp dumplings, actually at King Fong they have them in the frozen case pretty cheap so we warm em in broth and I put them in campbells shrimp bisque (tastes real good!) so it's wonton-bisque soup sorta. He's a pure cabbage kimchee guy the scallion one didn't work for him... that being said I'll have to find a better place for him if he doesn't like the one from broad street. He'll be eating it tonight or tomorrow so I'll let you know if he likes it better! Enjoy!
  18. I know that Silver Oak Bistro's Chef Gary makes a mean BBQ sauce - real tasty! From their website here is the following: 12.18.05 Chef Gary is now working on a per pound carry-out menu that will feauture our home-made Sausages, BBQ, Crabcakes and other party items with Silver Oak quality and taste! http://www.silveroakbistro.com/ YUM I can't wait till the spring or summer to bring a few pounds home for our house-parties or just for ourselves and family!
  19. Anyone ever been to "VU" (you can't search here it's under 4 characters! LOL) it's in Jersey City NJ? That sounds nice n romantic for supper too... thanks!
  20. Jeff and I went to Silver Oak Bistro to celebrate our 23 years of bliss... (grin/wink) and enjoyed everything we ate! Our great waitress Laurie recited the specials without nary a pause *YES, including prices!* and Chef Gary took time out of his hectic evening to say hello and he even remembered my moniker (LOL) "anonymouze" and mentioned a bit about the upcoming "take out bbq" when I had asked him, because I have heard that he's a pro at that BBQ sauce. ANYHOW, I can tell THAT by just the sauce that came with our home-made potato-chips... man, I wanted to get a cup to go but didn't want to bother anyone, it was real good! This is what we got tonight read it and drool We shared an appetizer - Crabby Chicken - it was (to quote his menu) Lump Maryland Crab cake & Chef Gary’s own Cajun Chicken Boudin sausage served over Granny Smith apple slaw with herb coulee Followed by the soup special! It was mighty fine. It was a duck and andoille sausage gumbo (*I THINK?) with fresh okra and tomatoes and other goodies with a tiny kick! Man-oh-man it was GOOD! Hubby who is "Mr Spice" loved it too. We got salads with nice greens and slivered onions and a nice vinagrette type dressing. I did NOT eat mine as I was almost full already and wanted room to eat the main course! Hubby got the Lamb (he wanted the lamb 4 ways but they were out) he had the "Lamb "MY" Way" as hubby called it... it was sheer perfection, it came with potatoes and goat cheese as a sort of potato kugel type thing and tasty cuts of lamb made nicely. (I took a bite and hubby took a bite of my dish!) I got the Mahogany Duck (500 times better in my opinion than the last place I had duck, which was on Chinese New Years!) His is a Long Island Duckling marinated oriental and mandarin orange roasted crisp with an orange fennel sauce (I declined the rice I knew it would over-fill me) I opted for shoestring potatoes which hit the spot just right! I took 1/3 of my duck home and 1/2 the potatoes for lunch - for tomorrow! I wanted dessert but I was in the mood for chocolate... there wasn't anything chocolate but their dessert sounded heavenly but we declined. (Key-lime pie with blood orange sauce or something like that!) We finally had a drop of room for dessert at 8:45PM so I had some not as good as SOB dessert quality stuff... but it worked for me! It was, Ben & Jerry's Ice cream with some delicious Hot Fudge with Raspberry Liquer (which I got at PICNIC the other week) made by Stonewall... MMMmmmMMmm good stuff. What a perfect end to a perfect night. Though our anniversary isn't until the middle of NEXT week we celebrate between Valentines Day and our Anniversary in between the weekends, if one or the other doesn't fall on a weekend day!
  21. India chef may work for you, in out, good fast indian food if you order from the back area where it's pre-made/warmed! Good stuff and close-by too. Also you may want to try Baja Fresh for something different? Were you just looking for a sit-down? Also I used to work off or Rt 4 one block in myself and for a fast and tasty bite of pizza try Hillman's in Maywood, wang-wang supertaco or the Maywood Seafood Market! Both are pretty fast and good too, wang-wang delivers.
  22. If you want great tasting French food without the fuss, hubby and I love this place, the woman who always is gracious seats us (I assume Madeline or the owner?) and the chef comes out and asks us for our comments when he has time! Chef Gaspard I think his name is but I am unsure...either way it's tasty! http://www.madeleinespetitparis.com Chez Madeline Petit Paris 416 Tappan Rd. (*Paris ave?) Northvale 201 767-0063-it's nearby in Bergen County and about 15-20 min from Paramus! We went there for Valentine's day last year or maybe the year before and it was real nice.
  23. Just a quick addition/note... TODAY - I had "Slyders" for the first time in a very long time (1 year+) and it is only cause hubby went shopping at han ah reum today so it's 1 block away (the white castle in little ferry) and I hadn't eaten anything since yesterday. It's now after 11PM (8 hours later) and well... to be polite I'll say even my dogs look alarmed by the sounds coming from my side of my home-office. But they taste real good when they're hot and you can't eat just one, usually 4 or more work for most folks so - LONG live White Castle Slyders and the fun way they rumble through the intestinal tract! Also see Wikpedia entry for White Castle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_&_Kuma...to_White_Castle
  24. I forget if i asked, but does Citrus Grill, have an online site or menu? Thanks! are there any other rockland gems out there? Much appreciated.
  25. Is there an online menu or something to see what they have? I saw their site but no menu on it. :-( Thanks again everyone so far... keep the ideas coming... I think I'll pick something soon, heck I only have 2 weeks!
