Hi! Where is the one in Emerson located? I would love to try it. I am always up for good Thai. ← Pimaan Thai Restaurant (201) 967-0440 79 Kinderkamack Rd Emerson, NJ 07630 All the gentlemen and ladies at work love it there because their prices are quite reasonable, try their fried banana and Ice cream dessert as well as their iced coffee/teas you won't be sorry trust me! It's tasty, inexpensive and real good.

Pelicana is ALSO the name of the place where Arirang is (they also do FREE Delivery) at 318 Broad Avenue Palisades Park, New Jersey - (201) 585 1944 or 1945 may be their phone number as on window - there was no area code, but it's worth a try! A friend of ours Jennifer said there is ANOTHER like this on the block but we have yet to discover it - if anyone does please let us know the address! Also across the street is a good bakery called Palisades Park Bakery, it smelled like heaven today. I am proud of myself I walked in but did not buy anything and trust me it was REAL hard to do that, however when we went to Hahn Ah Reum down the street I did have a late lunch or you could call it an early supper. It's ALL good! I can even read the letters for you in Korean if you need any assistance.

Actually, last year (or maybe it was the year before?) we were pleasantly surprised by some live Irish music at The Porter House on the top of Kinderkamack Road in Montvale about 1/4 South of the Pearl River, NY border. They have 2 nice bars that I've seen, a small one which they use for the dining area and the big bar/pub area up front. It is definitely worth a try for Saint Patrick's Day and the food is pretty fresh and good, we always enjoy it there, but you will probably have to make reservations at least 2 days in advance (so that's REAL soon!) I would think!

There's a middle eastern store not far from Paramus on Kinderkamack Road called Arak you may want to call them to check. The store is about roughly 1 mile NORTH of Route 4 in River Edge and very easy to get to with a park-in lot.

Sounds nice of her and the food sounds good too! I shall have to get over there sometime soon, maybe some weekend during the summertime! I like Pimaan in Emerson and there's a good Thai place just over the border in Pearl River NY too that is good. At Pimaan I like getting 2 appetizers as my main meal since they are BOTH good! The Meekrob and the Chicken Satay or Shrimp Satay. If I order off the menu an entree I'll opt for the Meekrob appetizer and then the Duck with Tamarind which is quite tasty too and their prices are VERY reasonable. They also give you an appetizer of diced cucumber as a sort of Amuse Bouche/mini-slaw salad type thingy... I'm at a lack of words, call it a Senior moment! LOL - however it tastes real good too and I've been tempted to get a pint of it to take home.

Here are some online specials and other bargains I found. One was using my old "friend" Wisekat. http://www.wisekat.com Peapod - Home-Food-Shopping Desc:$10 off $75 first purchase Coupon Code AFFL3 Expiration None Listed! Stonewall Kitchen (I love their sauces and stuff!) 10% off product of the month. http://www.thokalath.com/coupons/free_prin...coupon.php#food Coupons for some fast food places and Quizno's,Subway etc. , Chuck-E-Cheese for those who have kids, Pizza chains etc. I know that City Pizza in Westwood on Kinderkamack has pizza for only $6.99 for a plain pie on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I love their pizza (as does everyone else at our office) and this is a great deal for you pizza lovers.

What places are giving away free food, drinks or "give-aways"? Picnic has fun interesting quizzes every now and then if you get something right you get 10% off your meal. (I got some right but I wasn't ordering that day - heh - I got about 90% right, so I feel I have bragging rights!!!!!) I know that Quizno's has a special (you have to ask for the coupon) that if you buy x amount of sandwiches you get one free. Domino's has that $5.00 deal if you buy 3 medium one topping pizza's or more $5.00 each also they have a Tuesday special buy a large pizza at menu price and get a second pizza of equal or lesser value free! I got motivated to find out after seeing "Ham on the street" eating "free" stone soup, dandelion salad and other "freebies". Free is a GREAT four letter word!

Actually A&P, Trader Joes and also Dunkin Donuts has nice beans. I am not a coffee drinker but I know those as well as the International Food Warehouse all have nice coffee beans and coffee.

I was quite disturbed to hear of this revelation; You write a column in the New York Times. `This is a restaurant you reviewed in the newspaper. Comped meals are not only unacceptable, IMHO, but completely against all journalistic principles. Does the NY Times editor know of these comped meals? If they do and approve, shame on the NY Times. I feel that any media food critic should be anonymous on his visits prior to review; there should also never be a comp after the review, either, because that casts a further cloud on the veracity of the review, e.g., a possible quid pro quo. ← Have to agree with Menton1. If this is true Jason and you're been comped for dinner either before or after a review it's not right, especially if you're writing for the Times. I've already told Peter Conway I've got his photo in my kitchen for my staff to look at. The way this is posted by others and if it's true doesn't look good for you. i'd like to give you a little leeway but we restaurant owners don't get that on this forum. I'll lay back and let you respond but it's certainly interresting when reviewers get reviewed. After all , I was blasted for putting my foot upon my beer cooler after surgery for my knee. I left the hospital to hold a egullet lunch, 3 days after my operation. Didn't want to let egulleteers down. Edited because I get pissed and other people support me through PM's & emails. Soon to be deleted. ← I am quoting this directly "I also write small “Quick Bite” restaurant reviews for the Sunday New Jersey Section of the New York Times, which I’ve been doing since November of 2004. - J. Perlow " I will try to stay neutral on this but if you are writing it "freelance" or for pay and you are getting "comped" this may be considered a conflict of interest. If you are paying for all you eat before/during/after reviews, that would make me believe any reviews veracity and authenticity much more. I'm not sure what is true and what is not true but it would be nice to have it clarified without "finger pointing" and just to discuss it without it becoming a whole big deal. On the other hand, it might fall under the same category of a Reviewer, President of a Company, Senator or President or anyone else taking a "bribe" for favorable ratings/reviews etc. Just my semi-humble opinion. Question Du Noir... is there a website or a place online with menus? Thanks!
-
Are there other "fine dining" towns/establishments in NJ - preferably with a tasting menu and preferably north of Middlesex County? I have noticed that slowly Hackensack, Weehawken and Jersey City are becoming more popular locations as well... are there any besides Ridgewood that come to mind for Bergen county?
-
Jeff and I are considering going here in the future, is this the "best" Indian food with a Tasting Menu NY has to offer or are there any other outstanding ones, feel free to PM me as well. Thanks!
-
It sounds great so I'll chime in with my usual question since I hate to be bothered to open up another "window" to look... do they have an address, online menu, website? Thanks! It sounds delicious how far is it from here? (near Emerson or Picnic, your store Christine?) Thanks.

Man, I haven't had that bread in ages... can you tell us where Mondial is or if they have a website please? Is there an "official" name for the bread (if there is I've long ago forgotten it) or would we just ask for Pomegranate bread? My "kibbutz mother" was from Lebanon and used to bake that for us along with other goodies and so the last time I really had that was 1980. Thanks for sharing your pictures Adam, now I have to wipe the drool off my keyboard!

I'm not much of a betting gal Matt but I'd bet a BMW on it being chicken hearts! LOL Where is this wonderful place, do they have a web site? Could the poster kindly provide a list of what some of the items are? Thanks a ton and a half!

Actually not to give you a swollen head or anything your dish I had about 2 weeks ago the braised brisket? ribs? with the carrots and parsnips thingy was real REAL tasty if you had a BBQ sauce you could make (I hate the bought ones) for that AND sell it to us, or maybe "co-op with Chef Gary" or something... you'd have a great BBQ dish and we'd make you our BBQ location no doubt! LOL I've fallen in love with some of your dishes and I've got to admit it's hard to hold myself to my once every one or two week rule (depending on budget constraints!) but I really REALLY love Chef Gary's BBQ sauce that he puts out with the Amuse Bouche! I'm TORN between to loves!

Jeff, myself and my MIL,FIL went to Nanni's today, I really wanted to go to Devi and try their tasting menu in NY but I felt that this would be too much for them pricewise and foodwise since they like more "americana" food. Our appetizers I felt were tasty Jeff got the hot appetizer for one and I got my favorite Mozzarella en Carozza and my inlaws got salads. Jeff got the Lamb on Shank with pepperedelle noodles or something like that, I got the Chicken with Mushrooms in a wine sauce, my FIL got a veal pizzaola type dish and my MIL got a chicken with a butter/wine sauce and red pepper dish. We each got 1 "potato dujour" (type puff thingy) they could have spared more as they were pretty tasty. They didn't have my favorite wine by the glass so I had 1 glass of Zinfandel which wasn't bad Jeff had a glass of some Blanc... my MIL had a virgin daquiri... we opted to have dessert and coffee at my home afterwards. Nobody was really impressed by their food, the service was very good and I felt the appetizers were prepared nicely, I sampled a bite from Jeff and he from mine I thought his tasted nice. It was a bit more "bland" then I prefer but it's "old-style" Italian/American so it wasn't bad considering. We had gotten there 15 minutes early and were promptly seated they kept the breadbasket warm and full as well as their glasses, the waiters were very kind and helpful. (Ours was a bit amusing as well... when my inlaws asked what kind of dressing he said "Italian of course, this IS an Italian restaurant, if you want French dressing go to a French restaurant.. ugh who wants to go there, the French aren't that popular anyhow!") Amusing old gent. Well that is where we ended up, though I did make a reservation for Devi in NY in case and also Morton's but maybe I'll get to one or the other another day.

I go to Aladdin in Hackensack for Middle Eastern when I need a fix and their food is real good and quality tasting... brings me back to the days I lived in Israel oh so long ago! Also Babylon is real nice too and that's in River Edge. Aladdin has music/entertainment on Fri? and Saturday nights (belly dancers). Babylon isn't anything to really look at but the food is good, service mediocre at best but the folks are real nice... and I often see an Israeli friend of mine there every now and then which is an added perk, he's a nice guy... interesting in a funny way. I am "assuming" that by Middle Eastern you mean more Syria/Lebanon/Israel/Turkey food not Greece (which is technically NOT the middle east) or am I incorrect? Like Falafel, Hummus, Mohammara, Babaganoush, Tchina - though some of those are also crossover "greek finds". I rather not go to Paterson myself because of the problem with street parking, I'd rather not park the Mercedes there unless it's a private/watched lot. I hear that new place in Rainbow is becoming more popular too but I haven't been there yet.

I agree that down your way I'd try Delicious Orchards. Also Ryland Inn has had it. (I'm sure you can get some to go.)

I have to really agree with Tommy alot on his last posting. I live in what is considered a wealthy area the homes are 1M+ here and most of the towns within 5 miles or less of my town don't have many great restaurants to eat at IMHO. Woodcliff Lake, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River, Alpine, Closter, Rockleigh. There is the famous Saddle River Inn which every magazine and place touts as being great, I personally like The Park Steakhouse and more recently Fortunato but other than that you don't hear much about any restaurants in these half a dozen towns. Menton mentioned/discussed/debated/argued? that Harvest was one the other day -- but until then I have not heard of it, also someone mentioned Citrus Grille (but that's in Monsey NY over the border I believe?) and I do seek out new places constantly. My preference being something with a tasting menu and in Bergen County, so that when we go out once or twice a month to eat it's somewhere new and good and different. I usually end up at places like Bhoj for the variety/buffet so I can get a half a spoon of this and that but I know not of many places up this way that have a nice tasting menu that is not your american fare and are a 4+ star restaurant. Are there any 4+ Star restaurants in Bergen county WITH a tasting menu that meet the criteria? I'm not sure but good luck finding Fine Dining in Bergen County, SERIOUSLY.

I can only suggest the "Flaming Frankfurter of Fate" (reminiscent of the Fickle Finger of Fate from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In!) or Verona Vittles of Victory or a real groaner The "Haute-Dog". Thankfully fate can be good and bad, I'm sure your fate will be even better (is that possible???) the 2nd time around. Goodluck and enjoy Florida.

Do they have an actual pit and/or smoker? If not, what's their BBQ method? ← I recall when Chef Gary came out and spoke to Jeff and myself that he mentioned them having a smoker. I could be wrong, but either way I've had BBQ (or Bar-B-Que) in the Carolinas because one of my sisters live there. I've also had it in Dallas/Fort Worth areas in Texas and up and down the east coast and on vacation in Puerto Rico once too! For me it's a tossup between the carolina's style and the texas style but I do prefer sauce on side so you can pick how much you want to dip or pour. Western Kitchen? was in Glen Rose and the owner passed on recently... now THAT was good BBQ! However... Chef Gary's BBQ Sauce that comes with the Amuse Bouche of chips is really really good, you could have heard me "mMMmmmMMmm" all the way to NYC! ::grin/laugh::

Actually there's a great little Sushi Place in Westwood on Washington Ave across from the car dealer diagonally near the Police Dept. about 4 doors down from the Cigar shop, we've had Sushi there and it's been real good! I just can't recall the name at the moment! (I'm having a Senior moment) My favorite type of Sushi is Tamago with Cucumber and Avocado rolled in rice. Also I like Salmon and Cream Cheese with either Avocado or Cucumber or both. YUM ! Also there's always Minado, they have a nice Sushi bar and if you watch carefully you can see folks make it right there in front of you on a busy day.
