  1. After seeing that Dim Sum Dynasty got a health department conditional... I decided to go with hubby to Minado today. Maybe we can find some tastier and healthier dim sum when we head southbound!
  2. See my post (#412 here) that said: Harold will be the winner - IMHO! (I wish I could bet on the outcome - LOL !) YAY! I was right (again) he is the "Top Chef" for all the right reasons as well.
  3. Due to an unforseen change of events and plans... I went to the Picnic Wine 'n' Cheese Tasting... it was all very good and I discovered 3 new cheeses I really like! One is called "Once upon a time"? another is called Le Petit Basque? and the third Le something or other... LOL (had about 5 little 1/4 glasses of wine and I'm growing fuzzy - I'm a cheap drunk!) Anyhow I'm sure Christine Nunn can tell you all better than I what she featured. Also Congratulations Christine and everyone at Picnic for making the Feature Page in the Food Section of today's Bergen Record! With all the positive press and word of mouth you may never need a P.R. person! Keep up the good work and again thank you for a marvelous, delicious lunch.
  4. I thought on the commercial I saw one or two folks from TC... but maybe we're both seeing wrong! It was about the CIA in NY I think? I forget - I try NOT to watch commercials.
  5. I was totally planning to go on Wednesday (I think you meant that not tomorrow?!) - however we sold our house in record time! 18 days! WOOHOO! So we will be driving down to look at homes in the MD/VA area and perhaps write a LITTLE check, so I will not be able to make it as planned, sorry. I hope to see you again soon however and taste your delicious food until we move... Thank you again Christine, Javi and the rest of the great staff at Picnic.
  6. My thought process was also (see my last posting in this forum) Dave and Harold get along, Tiffani is the "clash" or "bad guy" they need something to keep our interest and she can keep the "women" in the audience and the haters busy... Dave and Harold wouldn't generate as much interest. So Dave HAD to go no matter that he won 1 and she won 0 on that last one! Tiffani you "love to hate" so she will lose semi-graciously and Harold will be the winner - IMHO! (I wish I could bet on the outcome - LOL !)
  7. Pontormo - 1) What kinds of vegetables did your family serve you when you were growing up? Anything I would eat... I limited myself to 4 - "DelMonte Carrots" in a can!, Corn any style, type would do. Potatoes, any style, type would do. Tomatoes in only the form of Ketchup or Tomato sauce (in small doses!). 2) Which ones were canned? Frozen? Fresh? (see #1) 3) How were they prepared? (see #1) 4) Of the ones you mention, rank them either as 1) LOATHE angry.gif; 2) HO HUM dry.gif tolerable, but could do without; 3) LIKE/ENJOY/LOVE even if it is a vegetable smile.gif. A short explanation of a few of these reactions would be interesting. ALL other vegetables I loathed the smell, taste or texture. 5) Did your family like vegetables? Did they make you eat them or....? What did they say? Everyone ate everything except ME, I didn't. 6) Give an example of a typical weekday meal at home. Brady bunch dine at the table meal, except me, I am "me". :-) (I was an obstinant child) Feel free to elaborate, whether providing more than one example, or addressing whether you ate the same kinds of meals--and vegetables--all year long, or if meals changed with each new season. 7) When you left home, during those first four years or so on your own when you could make your own choices, how did you eat compared to the way you ate when your family fed you? Keep the theme of vegetables in mind. I learned to like Iceberg Lettuce, Lima beans, string beans (if thin and w/garlic soy etc), peas, carrots any style if cooked - allergies..., all cooked peppers, shallots, garlic, onions. 8) What about now? See #7. 9) You specify a particular aversion to green vegetables. Why? I am a "supertaster"? I've been told that is why - something about *See Wiki: being a supertaster is not without some risk. A tendency to dislike certain generally beneficial foods such as green vegetables and grapefruit can make supertasters face additional risk for the conditions these foods prevent. On the positive side, however, supertasters generally do not enjoy alcohol or coffee. I do not like anything bitter, or peppery or anything that smells or tastes "grassy" (I have a strong dislike for brussel sprouts, broccoli smells also asparagus and any lettuce EXCEPT Iceberg lettuce or Boston/Butter Lettuce!) I am allergic to some vegetables if not well cooked such as eggplant and more recently I DO like Spinach "indian or pakora style". But I HATE coffee and the smell - ALOT! You also say you dislike "most" green vegetables. Which ones are okay...and why? (See #9) 10) Finally, would you be willing to tell us more about the way your allergies were determined and how your body reacts to produce it cannot tolerate? Are you allergic to anything else, such as nuts, dairy...? Allergic to Milk/Dairy, Raw Fruits/Veggies - some!, Strawberry allergies cause me severe distress in many ways as does raw Tomatoes. I think I covered it ! :-) What do you think?!
  8. Wow I'm in good company: 3 eGullet Society Member(s): Anonymouze, David Corcoran, jwjojo Anyhow... Lyndhurst is not on the top 10 beautiful cities book IMHO. But Fortunato is a beautiful taste treat. So after living in more beautiful cities myself I would have to defer to "WIKI" on this! Here is a brief note of what Wiki says about sunny Lyndhurst: Commerce Lyndhurst was historically a producer of machinery and metal products. While most have closed down or left the city, one notable exception to this is Shaffer Steel, which is still operating. I think that qualifies as a Factory!
  9. I have 2 I've loved (and love) over the years... Livingston Bagel (if it's still there?) on Northfield Ave in Livingston is #1 in my book and up where I live now The Bagel shop (Rons? I forget the name) across from the RR tracks in Montvale on RR Ave 1/4 block from Grand Ave (off exit 171/172?) in Montvale is super! The size of the bagel is big and delicious and filled with nice flavors on the non-plain ones! I hear their coffee is good too but I don't "do" coffee.
  10. Back on May 4th I said: My next prediction is that Dave will go because he is nice but not "top chef" material, leaving Harold and Tiffani and Harold unless he screws up majorly (sand in all his food etc.) will most likely win. How am I doing so far with my predictions? Pretty right or close to right so far! Anyhow... if Harold opens up that Restaurant in NY I suggest we ALL go as a group of "groupies" when he opens it! I'd even travel from the DC area.
  11. You can also head to Abma's farm they have a nice selection of items as well as market basket! Goodluck and welcome to New Jersey.
  12. Actually I was a Delhi Darbar fan and before that a Kohinoor fan... but now the best tasting "buffet" or non-buffet indian choice is Rasoi IMHO! But again I love Chowpatty as well which is a different style altogether and tasty!
  13. I have been to Ming and was not impressed maybe it was the time of day? The food left my friend Devi and I unimpressed and looking for something with more "zing" and taste! The prices were a bit on the high end for what you get as well, the only thing we liked was the decor and she's fresh from India and has been to Rasoi and said to me, let's NOT go here again let's go BACK to Rasoi!
  14. Delhi Darbar (1567 Oak Tree) chicken curry, goat curry is NOW Rasoi (sorry DD closed up about 18+ months ago... and we loved them for MANY years while they were open under the owner... but if you are looking for restaurant food of the same quality or better again Rasoi is it then! (I love the Goat Gosht (sic?) and other goat dishes they have) and you can go to 2 doors down to the Cash n Carry to buy some stuff to take home as well. If you want some great papri chaat to go - go next door to ChowPatty or to Chowpatty itself you can make your own chaat! Goodluck!
  15. Edison (and in this case, Iselin) is not between Trenton and Philly. It is quite out of the way. Or did I misunderstand what you were saying? ← Randi is right, it is at least 45 min to 1 hour n/e of Trenton/Ewing not quite on your way to Philly however maybe you meant you'd take a minor detour on the way to philly to pick this up for a good friend? Some hot indian food does not travel well like the breads you may want to ask for them uncooked and heat them up briefly at your friends home in an oven or microwave? Goodluck!
  16. You may want to look under ISELIN as well as EDISON lots of them border one or the other towns also South Plainfield or Plainfield as well. Here's one of your choices: Dimple Fast Food 1326 Oak Tree Road Iselin Phone: 732-283-0002 (they are known for Chaat) Want very delicious indian food go to Chowpatty if you want lots of things to order more vegan than non-vegan and nice chaat to order as well! - 1349 Oak Tree Rd, Iselin, NJ 08830. If not I'd strongly suggest Rasoi on 1567 Oak Tree Road (one block east of Wood Ave.) Iselin, NJ 08830 you can't miss it it's always VERY busy and VERY full of people, reasonably priced as well. Great food all you can eat buffet lunch with about 5 vegan and 5 non-vegan dishes, breads, 3 desserts, fruits, rice and more.
  17. It is what it is...
  18. Thanks John! I do exercise one or two times a week depending on how I feel healthwise for 1 hour in the pool doing various reps designated by my PT. Yes the answer is always the same on most diets less calories/intake and more exercise than you are accustomed to but sometimes there are special circumstances when you can't really exercise more (health-issues/problems)... I've lost 19.75 pounds in 20 days on WW then after a month or two I give up again. I really do feel that they are the best for us folks who eat "on the go" and don't feel or want to cook.
  19. Is there any long term diets that don't weigh in heavily (pun intended) with servings of fruits/vegetables in abundance? I've done and succeeded on WW but it's too slow going. (yes, yes slow is best but SHHH I don't want to hear it.) I'm looking for a long term diet that doesn't involve eating like a rabbit! I really have a strong dislike/aversion to most green vegetables and no, I can't change. If I'm not allergic to the fruit/veggie, it's usually one that a dietitian says is high in starch or sugar and can't be eaten in larger quantities. (Peas, carrots etc..) But I would like to find a strategy that works long-term, it only seems that portion control is the only answer but maybe someone out there knows of other diets that might work?! Maybe something new, different I've not heard of yet. Please be kind I may be feeling fragile in this category lately! (grin/lol) THANKS!
  20. Tommy if you want a real good burger talk to drnuke (my husband) he cooks up a mean burger! Catch him fast before we move. I generally hate most burgers but his are very tasty he uses ?? buffalo or bison or something ?? for the meat base and then garlic and onions or something? I have no idea but it tastes real good! Did you ever find a great burger place close to River Vale - I'd like to try it before we move to the DC area. Psst wanna buy a big beautiful house - Ctr Hall Col in River Vale? <--shameless plug.
  21. Try Minado not too far away in Little Ferry the food is better and tastier and it's also all you can eat. We have eaten quite a few times at C46 and it's pretty unremarkable and each time seems to be worse than the last when the owner Cecil isn't there. Trust me a take out chinese restaurant in an urban city with several health code violations may taste better IMHO. You can really find other places that have better tasting food like Lotus Cafe near Hackensack about 5 minutes away or Dim Sum Dynasty in Ridgewood. I don't understand why some folks seem to push this place especially some of the EG staffers, but we attended a chinese new year EG event there and several of our friends were there and they also stated that they would not come back, they were disappointed as well. Edited to also add: I meant "asian" as a whole not particularly chinese vs japanese vs korean etc... I'd just as soon pass on eating at C46! REALLY.
  22. Karl Ehmer is in Hillsdale on Broadway - I do NOT know the address of the one Christine is talking about but she may have mentioned it before.
  23. Yes, it was for a Realtor open house last week. My house is officially on the market so if you or anyone on egullet know someone who wants a gorgeous center hall col in river vale with 4BR and 2.5BA (3750 sq ft+!) on 1/2 acre you can PM me or email me! Glad I clarified it for anyone who misunderstood.
  24. My only dilemma was type of food best for the realtors and "serving style" since I would not be there as a hostess and wanted it to be something easy to eat. If I went with hot-chafing dishes I was worried about the time and cost involved. I didn't want to go to non-mainstream. Like Thai/Indian food. Other than that it was a no-brainer that MY preference was to order from Picnic. Hubby was thinking generic supermarket food perhaps also the realtor mentioned that she rarely spends over a certain budget and so with that in mind we had to all agree. So hubby said go with what I feel is best and I did feel Picnic was the best choice, which as I said was my original thought on this. Let's agree to not disagree?!
  25. Last week I said: Based upon this (previous episodes/mannerisms) I think unless there's a big upset that Tiffani or Lee Ann would be the next to go unless Dave REALLY loses it. (He really DOES weep way too much, again like I've said previously take it to a therapist, your pillow or alone in your home or room.) But my feelings were more toward them tossing Tiffani because of her "bitchiness" toward others. Yes, you can be professional without being a bitch but there is a fine line. In the business world men say that I am discerning, women say picky. Men say I can pare down the candidates without getting over-emotional, women say that I'm bitchy and too detail oriented. So I can sort of relate, but I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder. Anyhow it's good to be right for the most part. My next prediction is that Dave will go because he is nice but not "top chef" material, leaving Harold and Tiffani and Harold unless he screws up majorly (sand in all his food etc.) will most likely win.
