I was in That's Amore - which is in the Sterling Cascades area across the highway from Home Depot by Don Pablo's. They had a sign out saying something about Thanksgiving Dinner. Also in Wegman's they have a take home deal that sounds good too. Goodluck, please share with us/me any other places and their links if you have them! Thanks and have a great November.

We went to MDH today for late lunch/early supper around 4pm and it was all very good. It was ALMOST up to NY standards in our slightly humble opinion! We ordered 2 types of steamed dumplings each one was prepared well and tasted fresh no fishy taste or aftertaste. We shared the Duck and the Crispy Prawn dishes and though we'd usually go for more "chinese" fare they were both made very well and we were happy and QUITE full. I would definitely go here again and again! It's less than 20 minutes from our home in Reston VA though my Magellan sent me a different way than I would have gone, perhaps I would have taken 7 to the area by Syms and then turned off to get there... we got there and home easily. It is located across from the Home Depot/7 Corners shopping area diagonal across from Fortune Restaurant which has been mentioned by locals. We were not aware of a dimsum menu but they did have a large list of hot and cold appetizers - is there a separate dim sum menu or cart at other times, does anyone on Egullet know?Just curious. Thanks everyone for taking the time out of your day to read this, I hope you can suggest other great restaurants nearby for me by PM or on here! Have a great October 2006 and New Year. - Stacey C.

I wanted to weigh in on this... How is your nights going? Are you tired? Are you overjoyed? How many e-gulleteers and other site readers have shown up for your most (moist?) delicious morsels? P.S. When are you going to open a "Picnic" in Reston VA?!

Oops I'm sorry I meant non-chain. I'm experienced with M&S and it's not what I was quite looking for but thank you!

We'll definitely have to try El Manatial - Anyone know of any real good seafood places to go in Reston or Herndon or Sterling or real close by? Thanks! I'm open to any or all suggestions - please keep them coming - thanks again.

There's an all you can eat salad, pizza & dessert place on Rockville pike in Rockville MD about 2 or 3 blocks west of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission building and it's around 6.00 per person that should fit all your requirements and they all can experience the metro (red line) from DC to get there and walk the 2 or 3 blocks to it! or it's bus/car friendly in a small strip plaza.... I wish I remembered the name of it but maybe busboy or someone can tell you on here!

Yes, Raku - thank you! It was delicious and all perfectly served food! Where is Crystal City?! Please go to Jaleo in Bethesda if anyone who reads this forum has not been there... it is very good and close to the "Red line". (Just walk downhill then east 2 or 3 blocks it's not far at all and I'm not a big walker at all.)

Man Mike that video... tell Gary you guys gotta buy me a new keyboard, I drooled all over this one LOL I think I'll borrow Gary away for a weekend of dueling BBQ w/hubby down here to remind him of how nice the DC area is and of course you Mike and the E-Gulleters are welcome to PM me about comin down too!

Chris you should definitely try out this DC suburb a HUGE community of about 200 restaurants within 5 miles of 495! It's called Reston VA, it also has an interesting city if you "wiki" it. We just moved here and I was worried about it being a bit of an outpost, was I ever wrong. I have always lived in NYC's shadow in Northern NJ (and on and off in TX) but this place has so many choices of restaurants as does nearby DC - it's simply amazing!

While looking for Joe's crab shack which isn't around anymore we found a Burmese restaurant a bit up the street from Borders/Sterling-cascades area. We shared a delicious mixed appetizer plate, a goat and curry dish and a chicken and coconut w/noodles dish that tasted like chicken noodle soup with a bit more texture/flavor (and slivered eggs)... We also ordered dessert, mine I instantly traded for hubby's and ate half of his cream of wheat thingy which was tasty, mine made me gag - it was NOT my taste, however - he liked it. Are there any good seafood places in or near Reston, Sterling, Herndon that anyone can suggest? I would definitely appreciate any and all suggestions and I keep reading them. Thanks again everyone - be well and have a great wknd.

My husband and I have gone to Famous Dave's BBQ in Sterling in "cascades" off of Route 7/Leesburg Pike twice now and it is very good and the service is perfect and flawless for this type of place. The only disappointment is that their hot sauce is more of a "vinegar" type not a real HOT, hot sauce according to my husband. I liked the "Georgia mustard" and some of the other sauces. We shared an appetizer and hubby got a pulled pork sandwich, I got the catfish n ribs combo which hubby helped me with... the catfish was a bit overcooked but not too crispy and tasted fine, he ate his pretty fast so I can assume it was good. I hope we can find other BBQ places close to here that are worth going to... any suggestions anyone? THANKS!

My husband raves about Eatzi's on Rockville Pike? in Rockville for great salads, gourmet food and stuff (you can take it to go... check out their website?!) also about 1 or 2 blocks further west there is an All you can eat salad and pizza and "dessert" pizza place in a plaza which is behind a small bank, which is more family style and about 7.50 pp with a tall drink. Goodluck!

If you ever deliver to the VA area you can send Javi at 11am to make a supper delivery here! He can dine in the DC area get some fun tips and return! LOL

Tony Cheng's Seafood Restaurant 619 H St. NW, (202) 371-8669 We ate at Tony Cheng's and it's located with a parking lot 2 doors down 5.00 for 1 hour 7.00 for 2, we paid for two in case... but it only took us 1 hour to eat and leave to get home to our awaiting dog. I didn't ask for a refund of the 2.00 It was located upstairs above a mongolian restaurant it is about 20 stairs up or so... they have fresh grouper in tanks and 3 empty tanks also fresh duck hanging in the back (yes, dead and featherless and ...ugh.) On to supper We all shared "typical" food since we were with mixed company/family. Crabmeat wontons and cold noodles for appetizer. Crispy shrimp with honey walnuts , twiced cooked pork, sweet and sour chicken (blasphemy!) and some spicy beef and scallops in a brown peppery delicious sauce. Each item was made perfectly and presented at a good pace. The service was "typical" I poured my own water 2 times. They did refill my drink when I ASKED and brought the check swiftly enough but didn't offer a dessert menu (if they had one?) it is ok though we were VERY full! I would definitely go here again it wasn't bad at all. Anyone have any other better suggestions for china town preferably more adventurous stuff please let me know!

Thank you Zhelder. I hope to be in NJ sometime soon... maybe I'll peep at the new TJ.

Right now I'm recovering from my mothers passing-on however once I get out again later this week I'll stop in at Trader Joe's and let you know... this remains to be seen. When I visit my in-laws in Maywood I'll check out the new Trader Joes if they are open by then. Otherwise I'm looking forward to hearing more!

I'm going to revive/bump this because while waiting at DMV the woman Ms Highland suggested going to Grandmart (after we shared some Korean conversation with her!) she said to come to her for more lessons - LOL - ! We had been talking about finding Hahn Ah Reum... so she said OH, go to Grandmart so we had passed it by a few times and we shall go in soon. We just moved to North Reston (We're officially NOVA folks now!) and could use all the ideas and suggestions you can share with us and we will also try Tup Tim Thai... thanks and hope to hear from all of you soon.

Eating and Shopping on Capitol Hill
Anonymouze replied to a topic in DC & DelMarVa: Cooking & Baking
Hop on the Red Line (Metro!) to Bethesda for great restaurants of varying prices and values both up and down the hill by Elm/Woodmont/Wisconsin Ave's... Also in Rockville you can go to Eatsy's it's fantastic and different... there's a 6.00 all you can eat pizza/salad/dessert place near the NRC building about 1 or 2 blocks west or so just ask around for it... also a great middle eastern place diagonal across from that blding too and also Ize's is in that same plaza (bagels etc...) Goodluck... and let me know if you bump into any inexpensive great finds since we just moved down here as well. Thanks again. Goodluck and welcome to the area. -
Hubby and I ate at Jaleo about 2 weeks ago and it was great! (Bethesda) our bellman Mr Emanuel Christian from the Hyatt Regency suggested it. God bless that man he knows many great restaurants in that woodmont area. We also liked Delhi Dahba (although they didn't have poori!!!!!) It seems most Indian restaurants down here just don't make it. Also there is a Chinese/Japanese restaurant near Jaleo and one or so doors down from Delhi Dahba it's a MUST go... superb presentation and great food... yes, I forgot the name! (OOPS!)

Where is SBC is it in Reston as well? We went to and LOVED Minerva...MmmmMM delicious! I will avoid Chutney's on your comments here. That clock tower plaza is amazing - Wow lots of variety of places to pick also there's places closer to my home, in Great Falls, Reston, Sterling all very close by... we went to this BBQ joint in Sterling the name I think is Famous Dave's?! It was pretty good we liked it though it was nothing real special. Now that we're settled in we've also discovered Saffron which has tasty gyro's, kebabs and more in the Seneca Hill Plaza off of Rte 7 in Great Falls... try it sometime! Anyone that knows of other great picks nearby please let us know!

I for one am glad to see some of the smaller or lesser known places to get the mention in the poll. I voted for Picnic as did alot of my friends. Also The Park Steakhouse and some other restaurants that have won. Personally I feel that it shows the diversity of delicious choices and some of us all differ in opinions but obviously can agree upon what tastes good in our own way. I heartily encouraged all of my friends and egullet friends and others who I spoke with to vote for the best restaurant based upon my giving them some of my lunch, going to lunch with them at the restaurant or upon them trying it on their own or getting their catering/take-out done from just TRULY DELICIOUS places. Oh well back to Virginia stuff for me. (heh had to fix a typo - OOPS!)
-
Hi everyone! Well we never made it to the Big Red Tomato in Fort Lee, but now we are no longer in our home in NJ! I am overwhelmed with the amount of restaurants of every taste and type here. Virginia is truly amazing, especially Fairfax County! If I ever come to NJ and anyone wants to join me for lunch let's check the Big Red Tomato out and see if this guy has something worth bragging about. P.S. If you're ever near Reston VA look up Minerva - Man they have a great indian buffet! Bhoj is still far best near Saddle Brook though IMHO! BYE!

Christine's crazy...Christine's CRAZY! Maybe it's the size of the hot dogs... or their soft moist pink meat or... nevermind I don't want to traipse into the "food porn" category. Yeah Rutt's Hutt is good all year round if you can stomach their delicious doggies.
