  1. Is there any good "stuffed" bread places North of Paramus? Thanks. God, now I'm craving fresh home-made kourambiedes? (spelling may be close heh...) another good holiday treat, if you know a place for them too I'd appreciate it also, thanks.
  2. Anyone know of any places who can make up a low calorie lunch based on my wants/desires that delivers up near or in the Westwood/River Vale/Montvale area? I want to have something TASTY yet lower calorie and since I hate cooking and find frozen stuff pretty tasteless and salads are for rabbits IMHO (Yeah, I'll have a good salad once in a great while though!)... anything you suggest would be very helpful! Thanks again.
  3. Heh... I just found this and I may be in trouble being one of the "lucky ones" who only get a visit 3 or 4 times a year (BUT always when I'm on vacation of course... or it seems that way!) My likes / cravings include strange things this spring it was candied apples. Finally in October I got one at Abma's farm in Wyckoff NJ. I usually have that general chocolate & salty stuff crave. I satisfy it with either flipz or ranch chips and snickers bars. Flipz works best because it is chocolate and salty pretzels YUM! We should have a "PMS" club and have lunch or brunch pity parties so we can get all weepy and share munchies and watch chick flicks. and discuss the latest cramp meds that rarely work well (well I was on naproxen in high doses for years it worked a teeny bit!) bloating and of course (smirk ) feminine products - who the hell invented "WINGS"?! UGH! LOL... Nice to have found this little forum.
  4. Is this a store or an event? ← Menton it's a store (gourmet take out!) great food too, trust me I've gone there and ordered from them. It's on Kinderkamack # 180 across from Boston Market in Emerson more or less... just look about a few feet north and across from there. The Chef/Owner's name is Christine Nunn (I hope I spelled it right!) she's a nice woman who will try to take a minute or two to talk to you. I'm a yenta so I try not to bother her too much (grin)... it's worth the trip, trust me! (or peep at their online site I google it by using keywords picnic emerson nj then click on their link.
  5. MMmmMmm Picnic... I can't look at their daily menu's the food is too darn good for me and I feel awful to have them deliver lunch for just little old me because I usually just want a sandwich and a side, so I end up rewarming something or odering chinese food or something from another more local place. Either way the food is always good and fresh and delicious but I don't think I've met many foods I don't like so don't go by me, try it for yourself sometime! LOL Happy Thanksgiving everyone, don't stuff yourself and don't act like a Turkey with family! -grin-
  6. Mendoker's is where we got our wedding cake... just a little useless trivia! LOL
  7. I second Livingston (there used to be the livingston bakery on northfield but I'm not sure if they are still there... folks go to shoprite -ugh- now...) But there seems to be no bakeries at all in the northeastern tip of NJ except for sugarflake and they do not have a huge selection. I'd say best bet would be Paramus or Ramsey area.
  8. We're going to the best deal in the Northeast Peking Duck House in Closter on ? Piermont Road ? I'd call them for info/directions or see their web site I guess! Anyhow it's around 20.00 PP all you can eat traditional and chinese! Turkey, Duck, Stuffing, Cranberry sauce, Salad, Soup, Sushi! lol - chinese food of all types, great desserts (about 6 different pies/cakes!) and more! I think they raised it to $20.99 per person this year and if you order 2 soda's that'd set you back about 50. per couple so that's not bad at all for a huge supper! Enjoy, I do!
  9. Hi Jason! Please don't kill me but could we have an update with any website info for Stickey's, hours or anything else you know or suggest to order! - pretty please with kosher salt on top? Thanks! Your avid reader (and poster) - ME! I have it listed as: Stickey's 1515 Teaneck Road Teaneck NJ 07666 (201)833-0202
  10. And who wouldn't like a hot dog bun?? I commend your duaghter on her clearly elevated pallete ← Okay don't laugh but my favorite hot dog bun is the "potato" roll/long bun. GOD it tastes great. Also, yes I got them from the chinese market in river edge however they're not "fresh" but they told me on the weekend (sunday) they have them fresh so I'll have to run on over and check... thanks everyone!
  11. Ah, now you're talkin' my neck of the woods. Let's start with Forest Ave. From Bergen Mall north all the way to end in Westwood/Hillsdale, there is 1 sit-down Chinese place (Panda Forest) at Midland Ave in Paramus it on Forest Ave. ← Now it's Kumo? or something like that I used to love Panda Forest but it's been a different name & management for about 5 years or more - but I may be wrong? Sounds like you and I love all the same places - LOL! But you're probably 1/3 my size so you can eat one of each and be fine at the end of the day!
  12. Rainbow is in the Asian Market minimal across from the now defunct Finks and current salubrius Chinese takeout place. ← Saw it... thanks! Looks new-er? But as I drove by today I saw it ... thanks again!
  13. I'd appreciate addresses or links if you got em... never heard of rainbow. I know there's a great middle eastern place (Babylon?) by where Hoffman Koos used to be. Do you have an address for the Turkish place too that you mentioned? Thanks!
  14. I am looking for great little places up and down Kinderkamack Road (preferably) or Forest Ave or somewhere that is easy and fast to grab a good lunch, but not fastfood nor diner food. (No salads or healty-choices please, I'm going through an "Anti-vegan" phase!!!!!) Thanks, much appreciated in advance.
  15. I called the Dim Sum Dynasty to see if they were running any holiday specials they are going to have a "prix fixe" menu for Thanksgiving. (Reservations highly recommended) I reserved a table for 2 (I hate cooking - LOL!) in case hubby wants to try that for a change of venue! Thanks, I'll ask them if I can pick up a few sandwiches for "lunch" during the week.
  16. I think what I'm looking for in/near Bergen County NJ is what it's called. I love hot "roasted pork buns" and I hate having to go to the "chinese market" in edison for it. I got some today at the market in river edge but they were "packaged" I was looking for some fresh or perhaps a local chinese bakery? Has anyone found any good places to either order it (like take out/delivery) or to buy it like in a supermarket (or chinese bakery?) Thank you all in advance for your help, I used to go to a great Bakery on Mott St but when I drove through this summer I didn't see the bakery around. Maybe I missed it? It was near the church for many years I think it was called Luong Fong Bakery (or Hong Fat? I forget) or something like that... Thanks again.
  17. char siu bao - I think is what I'm looking for in/near Bergen County NJ. I love hot "roasted pork buns" and I hate having to go to the "chinese market" in edison for it. I hear that there may be some in the market in river edge but I have not been there yet. It was near the church for many years I think it was called Lung Fong Bakery or something like that... Thanks again.
  18. Jason I always love your pictures... however for those of us who know not what some of those dishes are could you pretty please add under them what they are? Thanks a whole big bunch. P.S. Do they have a link or site? Also do they have a "dim sum" cart every day? Thanks! You're the best!
  19. Sounds yummy, I may have to work my ezpass to visit you sometime so if you see a big lady with a big smile just wave and say "HI Stacey, I knew it was you!" Again goodluck on making your dream a reality hon'.
  20. I definetly have to agree with Rosie on this The Park Steakhouse in Park Ridge right across from the Boston Market on Kinderkamack Road would be my first choice for a business meeting. (Long as the company is picking the tab!) My second choice though a bit further out (about 15 minutes or so) is in Hillburn Mount Fuji - I took the folks from our Germany and Switzerland offices there and they were awed by the food and the views. I highly recommend the steak and... dishes (do NOT get steak alone trust me!) They use Kobe beef and it is to die for and they have a gracious bar area/lounge and great private seating and public seating areas too. Goodluck.
  21. El Cid in 205 Paramus Rd Paramus or maybe Sevilla 505 Main Ave Passaic, NJ not sure if both are still around...
  22. Congratulations Eric! I hope you do as good as or better than a place I loved the hot dogs at years ago, called H.A. Winstons, they were in Philly and also I think in Union NJ. I don't know if they are around anymore but they made a kicka$$ hot dog with creamy nacho style cheddar cheese and it was wrapped in bacon on a potato bun! It's been about 20 years but I remember it like it was yesterday! Anyhow GOODLUCK!
  23. Let me start by saying I picked up lunch at "Picnic" in Emerson... OH MY GOODNESS! It was sooOOo good for something so simple - I hope she gives me her recipe because mine never tastes THIS good ever... I mean NEVER ever! What I had was simply Waldorf Salad. It was 95% perfection (I'm picky I like my apples peeled first -grin-) The owner made today's Waldorf Salad with Cranberries, Raisins, Apples, honeyed nuts and usually I think it's mayo but I do NOT think this was mayo, it tasted like a cross between yogurt, frosting, mayo and honey-something-or-other... I am not sure what she used but if I find out... mmMMmmm I'll never stop eating it at home! Either way she definitely made it perfectly even my old dogs who are never agressive pushed each other out of the way to get at the apple skins (like I said I don't like them unpeeled!) it was amazing to watch and it made me chuckle. I will have to get much more than the pound and a half she had so I have enough for 2 or 3 days. I have enough for one more meal, lunch tomorrow. Then I may just get the DT's from missing it over the weekend! If anyone has any other "goodies" that I may like recipe wise or places to go that have non-celeried waldorf salad or candied apples or anything "different" let me know. I'll try anything once, and if it doesn't hurt and it's legal... twice!
  24. I relish a good nosh, used to hang out at Eppes Essen (hubby says its too greasy for him) but I used to love it in my High School/Livingston days. "Frank"ly speaking... I'm sure we'll all wait to hear you "catch-up" with us about the meeting. (groan) -grin-
  25. Good Luck Eric... P.S. If you ever need a zoftig taste tester who is also a "supertaster" see me! LOL I've "taste tested" for KFC pre-marketing foodstuffs and other fast food chains. Although not a pro I have a great tongue and varied likes/dislikes. I've been re-called by them and also put on their "special panels". My only "problem" is an aversion to "green" foods and I am not much into spicy, flavorful YES, spicy... NO! I used to live in Livingston for many years and if you ask me Verona is a great place to run and own a business next to the West Orange area down there. again, goodluck and best wishes.
