  1. There is a good German restaurant called Fritzy's 2200 US Highway 9, Howell, NJ 07731, 732-845-1500 - dunno if they are still open. For real tasty Indian go to the buffet on the weekend at Rasoi on 1567 Oak Tree Road in Edison Jerusalem Pizza 231 Raritan Ave., Highland Park There's 1 south & 2 central for you!
  2. So, if you don't live nearby you won't get a free lunch - has that ever stopped us? What should Chrissy's "sanich" be? ← GOD I hate cooking however... here goes (and I know the "mistress" likes mushrooms so this is in honor of her likes - and my dislikes) heh ew, mushrooms! (Also if you want to go NON vegan style you may add your famous "steak/filet mignon" or grilled chicken or grilled shrimp to this as well.) Christine’s Chinese Mushroom Mania 1 – lrg (5”) Portabella mushroom, stem removed (or you can use any type of mushrooms as well) 1 – large Red or yellow bell pepper, quartered, stem and seeds removed 1 – large onion, sliced into rings or diced (optional) 1 – Focaccia bread or Kaiser roll (I would prefer F bread IMHO!) 1 – slice of fresh smoked mozzarella or provolone cheese Marinade: 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. toasted sesame oil 1 tbsp. soy sauce ½ c. water 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/8 tsp. black pepper 1/8 tsp. dried oregano 1/8 tsp. dried basil (I prefer sweet oregano) ¼ tsp. lemon juice pinch of salt Put all marinade ingredients in food processor and blend well. Put mushroom, red pepper and onion in a bowl. Pour marinade over the top to coat. Turn mushroom, peppers and onions so all sides are coated. Soak and turn in marinade for at least two hours. ** NOTE ** (I would use either SOY mayo OR Soy ranch OR Soy Balsamic-Oil (try one of each and decide for yourself!)  • Soy-Mayonnaise: Mix 1/4 cup real mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce. • Soy-Balsamic-Olive Oil: Stir together 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil with 1 teaspoon each of Soy Sauce and balsamic vinegar; pour into shallow dish • Soy-Ranch Dressing: Blend 1/4 cup ranch salad dressing and 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce. Grill: Remove mushrooms and peppers from marinade and place on grill, pouring ½ of marinade on top. Turn and pour remaining marinade on mushrooms and peppers. Toast Kaiser roll. Remove from grill when done. Serve: Place grilled mushroom on bottom of bun and top with grilled red peppers and onions, and cheese slice. Spread dressing on top bun.
  3. I found my fong-wong-gai! YES! Does anyone know anything about this place I seem to recall it from a long ago thread but didn't see it. I think they mentioned this place has karaoke or something but maybe I'm thinking of another place... anyhow... Anyone know about this? Lee's Hawaiian? 635 Lexington Avenue Clifton, New Jersey 973-478-1977 Fax: 973-478-5572
  4. MMmmmMmm I didn't know there was room for improvement with SOB, HEH I guess there's always room to learn more though! Congrats on the great food Mike, I hope to be in again as soon as we hit Ridgewood again!
  5. Hi Jason! They look scrumptious! Thanks... now I know, but sometimes I need a clue! Thanks again... your avid eater, I mean reader... ME! MMmm that Gnocchi in Tomato/Mushroom herb sauce with Shrimp looks out of this world good! MAN I have to get there for lunch one day. Thanks again Rachel and Jason! Great work.
  6. Mmmm Bacon wrapped scallops... (or shrimp is good too) also I noticed they sell Soy Vey I love using that sauce it makes lots of dishes taste great! I need to stop in there SOON, my Mother-in-Law lives 1/2 mile from there!
  7. I used to go to the Chinese Restaurant in West Orange in Essex Green when I was young up until the 80's it had a dish I love (and miss) called Fong Wong Gai (it was chicken with a slice of pork or ham between the layers - battered and quick baked or fried) If anyone knows of any Bergen County restaurants that have that I'd love to hear! Also I googled Soochow and could not find an online menu if anyone knows of any GOOD chinese restaurants in Bergen county please let me know. I like more szechuan style with the occassional polynesian/cantonese thrown in. Please do NOT recommend C46 it is definitely not in my top 10 choices. Thanks! Much appreciate the aid on this!
  8. I used to be a "piney" when I was young... so I hope some of these are still there that I enjoyed. There is a little diner/restaurant on Routes 1/9 on the way down toward the Waretown Powerplant it is the LAST one on the right heading south so if you see the plant and head north make a u-turn when you see it, it is really good and has a buffet and greek and american food I'd suggest it but I don't recall the name but you can't miss it! Also I used to love the Lobster House* (*thanks randi) in Cape May that was at the end of the Parkway before you head toward the towns - hubby liked their turtle soup back when... I wasn't that adventurous. Heading further north there's the Parkway sub shop for a fast nosh in Bricktown it is right off the exit and used to make superb subs! Riddle n Martin in South River makes the best and least expensive subs in the area as well as Tastee Sub shop 1/4 block off of Route 27 in Edison* ask anyone and they'll know the name of that one! It's across from Burger King. Yes, Mike's subs is always good down that way... and like you mentioned in AC area there's a nice cheesesteak place too! I liked the Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick the one time I went... that's another. I hope some of these were helpful! If I recall others I'll try to post them!
  9. What is a Megan a Mutant Vegan??
  10. Oh my goodness their menu looks wonderful! I have to now take a trip to Nutley!
  11. I figure I'd start this thread since I work from home and I'm sure many of you either order out, get delivery or do "take out"! So being "hump day" I thought I'd ask what have you gotten this week and from whom and what was it (or in it!)? and if there's a funny story or interesting reason the "why"! Monday - skipped lunch - Went to Waterloo Sue's - Hackensack SPIEDINI ROMANO - Appetizer and also a small side salad Layered mozzarella quick fried on white bread and served with a side of anchovy, caper & butter sauce (It doesn't need it trust me!) LOBSTER RAVIOLI - Main Course - With a seafood newburg sauce Tuesday - Itsy's Gourmet - Park Ridge (Delivery/Take-out) Brunch: Cinnamon Raisin Bagel w/ Bacon Egg & Cheese Supper: Pastrami & Corned Beef on Rye with Mustard Linden's chocolate chip cookies Wednesday - Picnic Catering - Emerson (Gourmet Take-out) Lunch - Fall off the bones ribs - Made with our homemade barbecue sauce. 13. Thanks Rachel! That mold is a work of art... very beautiful! Now we need you to make another for the MOMA!
  14. I like cubano's sans pickles (yes, call me weird!) is there any great cubano places in Rockland County??? (begging with eyes wide and puppyish!) THANKS!
  15. I like seeing specials on these http://www.nudell.com/lighted.htm "electric lighted black boards" at restaurants in a place where you can see it when sitting, OTHERWISE by the time I glance when I walk in I have forgotten the specials by the end of the conversation with my dining companion or husband. This way it's great for people to see what specials they have AND the ingredients if listed and the pricing! Anyhow any way a restaurant chooses to do "their thing" is fine with me. They can also do the "quick printout" on a printer of the daily specials and stick it into their regular menu... that doesn't hurt either! As for Silver Oak I'm sure Mike will find his Niche as other owners do... but again as an avid consumer and a previous business owner... I find the above mentioned way the best way to get across your "advertising/specials"! Goodluck.
  16. Okay I have forwarded the pictures to Rachel from my husband including her rainbow gelatin mold... I am sure she'll know how to get them to be seen here far better than I would have been able to! Even one of them carving the duck!
  17. Mike is there anything new and exciting coming to your menu that was should prep our tastebuds for in the spring?! Your menu is fantastic and I'm sure it would be hard to add more or improve upon near-perfection... but... I have to ask!
  18. Oh I did like the other noodles (not the capsicum! yikes!) but the other ones and I liked the chicken with the sticky rice it was a bit dry but otherwise good. Hubby took picture and video and will email them to anyone who wants em to post on here or he may even show me how to do it since I'm not the video/camera literate of the two of us. I'm good at laughing, eating and sleeping! LOL
  19. I enjoyed the company at the tables including but not limited to "Matt" MX Hassett (sic?) , "Fat Guy", Jason and his sweet wife Rachel, Spinner, Christine Nunn of Picnic, Mike Feygin and his lovely wife and their business partners of Silver Oak Bistro and the gentleman we always see in Bhoj who's name I forgot.. and everyone there at the 3 tables filled with eager eaters & chatters. The dragon dance and drums although a bit short was nice - I heard we missed a great shouting match which almost came to fists in the lot between different performers so much for more entertainment - LOL - . Cecil was a bit short-staffed for this event we had to ask for drinks, dishes, we shared food between tables BUT all in all it was a nice bit of folks so it made it more pleasant. I really enjoyed the taste of the tofu noodles, the dumplings and the tofu wrapped flounder as well as the the peking duck. (IMHO Silver Oak Bistro's duck is FAR superior!!!!! and I did mention it to Michael before I left!) I even tried a small piece of calamari it wasn't bad... the Shrimp while tasty should have been prepared without shell/tail/legs etc... in deference to the clientele/customers. I won't comment on the rest of the dishes I'll leave it to others.
  20. Jeff (my husband) and I went to this little "deli" behind "H-Mart" next to the DMV in Englewood right by the small circle at the end of the shopping district and though it looks like a little deli, they have a "hidden arsenal" of goodies in the fridge, and keep the Kimchi downstairs or somewhere out of sight! When we got there at 430 it was nice n quiet (after we shopped at "H-Mart" in Ridgefield Park and walked around the little mall that it is in!) I got my delimanjoo fix at the H-Mart... so we stopped in here and the daughter? or someone was handmaking manjoo/mandoo? aka "dumplings" so I ordered a container of beef dumplings, good for a rainy day and hubby ordered a half gallon of their cabbage kinchi - it smelled better than at the market but he says it tastes more or less the same - I never eat it, but tried a small forkful at home, my mouth hurt a bit (I'm not a spicy food eater!) but it tasted nice n fresh compared to the smell of the pre-made ones at H-Mart IMHO! I suggest if you're a dumpling or kimchee officianado go there. They said they had radish kimchee, cabbage kimchee and other stuff. ENJOY!
  21. Carmel (Israeli) Sauvignon Blanc under 10.00 Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Johannisberg Riesling 2004 and 2003 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2004 also under 10.00 - My suggestions.. and below is someone elses! - Dr. Loosen Riesling 2002/03/04 - twist top and always a pleasure. - 8/9 bucks at Bottle King J&f Lurton Rueda White under $8
  22. Great job, nice piece on the news! Please allow me to add that I've had apple-stuffed sausage and I bet if you tried it you could really mix the two "american" favorites! Maybe a dog with an apple relish or some experimentation like apple mustard or something! If you ever want a taste tester, again I volunteer to drive down if you need a strange woman with strange tastes!
  23. Sounds like a winner! Thanks for your suggestions. How about a soy mayo on that one? ← Man if you made a peking duck sandwich in a "biscuit type bun/roll" (not those stinky burger ones or hard kaiser type rolls BUT something softer/sweeter) with the skin, hoisin sauce soy mayo and iceberg or other lettuce and skipped the scallions I'd get that 5 days a week! YUM! (Daniel you're evil! EVIL!) ;-) LOL) I only have one teeny tiny comment, one place I order lunch from always includes a side of chips (I wish they were "homemade chips" but that's ok) So - is it me or am I the only one who likes a small side of something with a sandwich or platter? (home-made pot salad, puree'd sweet potatoes, mac salad, stuffing... something?)
  24. My husband will be joining us as well on Sunday, he barely knows about e-gullet so this may be a bit of a "shock" for him. I just reserved my payment so consider this our "2nd" RSVP so you'll meet both of the "Big C's"!
  25. I'm a BIG kid and I love cha siu bao - in fact I was so hungry I ate 4 steamed with a tsp of hoisin on each with some soy/rice crackers for lunch today after skipping breakfast. I was recovering from ordering the "godfather" the day before from picnic and was still full in the AM so by lunch around 1pm, I finally got hungry! It was not TOO high carb eh? By suppertime I was almost full so I settled down for 2 cups of elbow macaroni with butter and garlic... my "home based" menu runs a very strange gamut of choices.
