More intriguing than the food is the fact that you had success eating there with a six year old. My six year old daughter (picture at left) would have definitely chosen too starve rather than explore. Any tips ? Kurt

Admin: Threads merged. I was wondering if anyone had experiences/opinions on Casa Mono in Manhattan? Looks good on paper

Truffles I don't hate the flavor so much, but I get a weird gagging feeling from them.

Have you tried A Touch of Thai ? Its a quirky informal place but the food is pretty good. http://www.mcall.com/entertainment/dining/...l-entdining-hed

For asian style teas Ten Ren is my absolute favorite. They also have some nice herbals as well. http://www.tenren.com/

any ol' real mayo Just don't burn it

Very crispy with a kind of light shell , from the egg in it I assume I thought this was a known trick, but maybe I'm a genius! Yay!

I was suprised that no one mentioned putting mayo on the outside of the bread. Frying the outside of the sandwich in the oil that separates. (did I miss it?) Thats my favorite.

It isn't a stretch to imagine that future shows will be completely lacking any real educational value. Mass appeal, ratings, and subsidizing of shows by corporate interests will certainly decide the networks future. I wouldn't be suprised to see shows completely run by TGI Friday's combining the lastest menu features at the restaurant, reality tv competitions for management positions, and a good feelings segment at the bar with patrons discussing current events. Of course the show would air on Friday's and combine further product placement like their already popular "Jack Daniels" food. How about Olive Garden travels to Italy, etc. etc. Sincerely, Mr. Cranky

Has anyone tried Cadenheads Old Raj? Quite pricey, worth it?

I was watching a Sara Moulton episode when she made the claim that Gourmet magazine had done a taste test of canned tomatoes, and that a domestic common brand had done very well in the standings. But of course she didn't remember the brand. Any ideas on a favorite cheapo brand?

A little addition to the mushroom question, I have made big batches of Mushroom burgers. Always a hit. Just put dehydrated shrooms in the food processor and make into a fine powder. Distributes more evenly into the burger and avoids yucky taste. You can put quite a dose into one burger with very little change in taste. So be a good grill host and label the burgers "shroomed" and "regular". And on the pot smokin' munchie food topic it always seemed to me that acidic food made me feel happy and helped dry mouth.... which is why we often munched on raw rhubarb. It's really good

This recipe sounds good. Bet they would be great with Cool Whip!

I was reading the "biggest change in your cooking" thread and noticed a couple of posts from people who were vegetarian. I myself am a lifelong omnivore, and I am assuming that the vegetarian experience would typically be a one way trip. I have one friend who quit the vegetarian lifestyle while living in Brazil because she felt so isolated from her freinds. It's a meaty country. I am curious what other motivations have moved people to leave the cause? And what attitudes have they encountered either before or after the change?

Do tell! Where is this new Cuban sandwich joint? Hwilson, I am right there with you... Good bread makes a sandwich. Same as I've never had a good cheesesteak in FLA, I've never had a better Cuban than Miami & the Keys. I am willing to keep searching at every opportunity though... ← It's in Allentown There are so few Gulleteers up here I didn't use the name of the place, El Punto. We just came back from there and the pork was good but there was no pickle on the sandwich. As I was eating mine I thought, "this would be a peice of heaven at two in the morning drunk". I looked at the hours and sure enough, they're open till 5 am on Friday and Saturday.

thanks Katie, I saw that they use Amoroso bread, and one website claims that the secret is to grill it until the ham, pork, and pickles steam themselves in their own juices.

Going out to try a new Cuban Sandwich restaurant and I realized that I haven't tried many. Other than being pressed, what are the hallmarks of a great one?

I prefer flour tortillas, but of course would never turn down any quesadilla. What I love the most is a quesadilla made with just Chihuahua cheese. The oil leaks out of the cheese and coats the outside of the tortillas frying them slightly. Greasy simple and piping hot. MMM! To me the more "stuff" inside, the less quesadilla like they become.

Thats what I thought, but it's amazing how the PR for the stuff pretends that its more than rubbing alcohol. Aged in caves etc. The brand I got is Tunnel 88, named after the cave tunnel its aged in. Seems more like it should be called Coma 88 for the number of hours suffered after drinking it.

No, definitely not like Shaosing wine. More like grain alcohol

It's not Matcha it's definitely Sencha. I'm probably being stupid, it just seems the leaves should be more intact, but I see a lot of sencha's online that look like this. I guess it's probably normal for it to have such tiny bits.

My sister in law always brings me green tea from Japan. It is always in a vaccum packed tube and very finely ground/crumbled. That seems to me to be exactly what tea shouldn't look like. Is there a reason for the texture or is this just cheap tea? I buy a lot of tea from Ten Ren and its always whole leaf.

I received a bottle of Kaoliang Liquor as a gift. Seems a little rough How is this usually drunk, and or is this just designed to get you drunk. 106 proof and reminds me of rubbing alcohol.

I'm not a big Bourbon fan but I do like Woodford Reserve which seems a little less sweet to me (more scotch like). Are there any other Bourbon brands recommended for Scotch fans?
