On the other hand, that your dining experience may be lackluster is no reason to miss visiting Venice. Just eat the inexpensive way and enjoy the incredible beauty and magic while strolling the island.

Space pictures are nice, but we need bakery porn.

Even at my worst (anemic state, that is) there was still some iron in my blood. Anyway, bloody iron is a distinctive scent I have been familiar with for a long time. Maybe it's a female thing.

He has one scheduled at Dish it Up in Magnolia - long ago sold out - before I got the brochure. SOLD OUT!

Last year, I was in Venice October 19-22. It was like a Turner painting, with a low sky, but no rain. The weather was great for walking all day. I had a thin fleece jacket and Gortex jacket (fashionable? No.) A week before, mosquito season. A week after, flooding began. I hit it just right, though a clear sky would have made my pictures a bit nicer. One dinner outside was chilly, but doable. The boat ride was great - I rode the entire Grand Canal loop late in the night.

So? I bought a new Roper fridge for my house 12 years ago - still looks and works like new. Cost something like $300. Of course, it doesn't look cool, just a white box with a handle, but it keeps the food fresh, and it fit in the small space available. Don't get me wrong, I would love a nice new stainless steel appliance packed kitchen (I really dislike cabinet faced appliances - what is the point?) but if you are looking for a financial justification, well, it just isn't there.

There have been a few mentions - though not as a brunch location - on the Welcome Thread.

I have a cookbook by Anne Marie something or other. Claimed to be chef for the Kennedy WHite House. Guess I better go back and reread the introduction.

They got air conditioning! And the food is even better than ever. How do they do it?

That's way too Italian. Try "Pain"

Gee, I never cared for her writing or her attitude, but I just don't read that into it. (On the other hand, Nancy was hilarious today!) -
Glad to be of assistance. When will you post the rest of your Seattle adventures? Hope they were all successful. Did you enjoy "rainy" Seattle?

Yes, I ate - and had a glass of wine. By the glass, $5.50 for rose (French), I believe. Ate a nice sliced pork tenderloin with cumin - actually tender, juicy and flavorful, a touch of heat. Served with a frisee salad. Also sampled a flatbread with smoked chicken and dried cherries. Quite good. Served in a rectangular fluted pan. Saw a swell looking individual chocolate cake filled with ice cream (?). An assotment of meat, seafood, vegetables, flatbreads, and desserts. Not Lark, but good flavors and values - and right now, easy to get a table or barstool. Quality service and tableware. The place feels un-Seattle, yet okay for jeans. If they can keep up the quality and keep down the prices, they will have a good following from the Belltown residents.

Can you say, "bye bye?" -
I keep wondering if he also manipulated the course of events "when they were three." Spikey-head's chicken was getting some good reviews until Michael took over cooking it. Did anyone else notice that? She would have lost anyway. And it was hilarious when Ralph's family attempted to hijack the vote and guessed wrong about his dish! But I agree that the boy did the smart thing - hopefully he doesn't just end up a slave, but gets a decent wage and some time to grow and learn in London.

THe Weekly: review

With the unfortunate subtitle of "gastro-tavern" they have started out very well. A good sized menu with everything in the $7-8 and clean urban space. Deceptively simple. The flavors are bright and the space is sculptural with a lot of custom metal handled deftly. I love the rotating modern art piece. Hard surfaces - yes, sound level is troublesome. No kids. Old, familiar bartender, new owners. Kitchen open till midnight, bar till 1? Black Bottle 2600 1st Ave 206-441-1500 blackbottleseattle.com (at Vine, old Two Dagos space.)

I thought I was the only one - for me, no matter if it is 95 degrees outside, I am reluctantly drawn to immerse myself, head in particular, into the hottest tub of water I can draw. Crazy, but that is my best relief. Anise or fennel seeds chewed for indigestion (and flatulence). Ginger tea for cold relief (though I haven't had one in over two years!) Avoid tomato, eggplant, etc. prior to general anesthetics - easier to shake off the effects. Chocolate for everything. Salt water gargle for sore throats. Hated as a kid, still do, but it works. Don't know much about this, but here's a link: webzine

I used a 24 hour pass last October to go out to the islands for a day trip and on return, got off here (Tre Archi, I believe) and walked through this end of Venice back to San Marco. (Too bad I didn't know I was so close to this gem!) It was wonderful. I also use the pass to take a night tour of the Grand Canal, comfortably seated the whole way. And finally, the following morning used the end of it to go out the other direction to the last stop before crossing to the Lido. Walked back via the Biennale site and more back streets and neighborhoods. It's a great way to travel, at least off season!

Signature item, though they are better known for the croissants. I've had my share over the past 5 years! When did they open, 2000? Yes, and I see cofounder Meg has moved on to her own place in Mt. Airy, Penn. (NW Philly) I wondered where she disappeared to. Best wishes! High Point Café. Opening late June. 602 W. Carpenter Lane, off Greene Street. 215-849-5153

Are they open for lunch?!

What about the cherries floating in my bottle of Ginja, carried back from Portugal? I guess I should fish one out and see what it tastes like.
