Northwest Vegetable Gardening
tsquare replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Cooking & Baking
I planted three cherry tomato plants that I bought at the Seattle Tilth sale and all three are blooming and one has two tomatoes. I'm very excited! ← Can anyone suggest a good source for tomato plants in the Seattle area? I'm getting a late start--and missed the tilth sale-- but want to grow some cherry tomatoes in pots. ← PCC carries the same plants (from Rent's Due). Also, some at True Value on Greenwood that looked stronger a few weeks ago. All limited supply. -
Try here: WCR and: Les Dames

You were there last night??? WE were there last night!!! It was actually packed because of a mixer that was going on. ← No, I just walked by on my way to Zoe. Great rabbit raviolo. -

Del Rey (?) at 1st and Battery has a second happy hour from 11-1. The place was packed at 7:20 last night. Belltown was booming. -
thin pasta with cheese and black pepper (and butter, oil, and salt.)

All this "their way" stuff reminds me of Matt's, a few years ago. They still do it, but a lot less confrontationally. They take reservations now. And they are finishing up 9 or 10 years with a very busy business. 23 seats...

There are a number of places that serve a second happy hour late - Toi, for one. But maybe only till 11? -
[Moderator note: This is part of an extended topic that became too large for our servers to handle efficiently, so we've divided it into shorter segment; the preceding part of this discussion is here: [seattle] Farewell & Welcome: Closings, Transformations. Openings (Part 1)] Briazz bit it, changing to Organic to go (at least at 5th and Union.) O To Go - bought Briazz stores in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Orange County.

ChefShop used to carry them (no longer open on Saturdays so I don't know what's in the store anymore.) I've seen them at PCC, the deli/market at the north end of Pike Place Market (by the wine store, so close to Virginia, and I think at DeLaurentis. I'm guessing Larry's has them too - or Met Market? Okay, I'm not much help.

Sonya's on 1st? When it was the previous deli place, I recall a nice view towards the water from the window tables. But the coffee quality? Same regarding Lowells or Athenian. Interesting question. You could enjoy the scene from SBC at Westlake/Pike I know this fabulous place with a knock out view in Montepulciano!

Vashon Thriftway has the frozen bread (not exactly convenient for you..) Taylor Golds were at Sosio's - last week anyway.

Go after the lunch crowd. Quiet, smoke free, attentive. Fabulous chicken sandwich - pulled chicken (?) smokey (in a good way) with sweet lightly cooked red onions and aioli. Nice side salad with crispy bit of chicken skin! Sue's Snap Crackle Pop - on the Today show Friday June 3! And it is good - and sweet.

Ken's Market - Greenwood, this morning - CR King $24.99, CR Sockeye $19.99. Didn't notice if these were fillets or steaks.

Grilled outside, last night. Excellent.

I thought just about everything on the menu sounded great - tough choices to make. Starters at the table included shrimp with orange, green olive relish (missing the listed fennel) on a bed of mache. 3 very good shrimp. White bean-olive oil soup - smokey and creamy. Sauteed spinach with currents and pine nuts, a hint of citrus. Pastas - housemade noodles with duck sauce - more of a red sauce with duck, but quite tasty, and risotto with pork (forget which lovely fatty part) and favas - very very good. Shared the boar in mustard gorgonzola sauce. Nice. Dessert was a lone poached pear stuffed with mascarpone and chocolate bits - too adult for my sweet tooth. Wine came hand carried from Italy - $15 corkage fee. Nice glassware. Service was fine - we set a pretty casual air ourselves. No bread refills or inquiries - also no olive oil or butter (Jim, are you listening?). No visits from the owners. Plates are quite heavy - a challenge for the bussers removing more than a couple of plates at once. Made us almost hold our breathe watching the maneuvers. I will be happy to return and explore the menu some more.

Absolutely astounding. I have a b'day party to bake for next week - I just hope it tastes good and looks presentable. This makes me wish it didn't take me 8 hours to bake a standard cake or two (and wash up.) I'd at least put organic violets on mine, but it may have to sit out all day - haven't even figured out what can take that sort of abuse, frosting wise. Any ideas master?

Always worth calling before you trek to it - especially since the following Monday is the Mario fest - they might close to prepare for it. Have a grand time.

easy googling: Wine Outlet is at 1701 First Ave. S. Hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Nooooooo! Run away! I heartily second the recommendation for La Carta. I don't think El Puerco Lloron is all that, but it's not dreadful (which is more than I can say for Mama's). ← Wow, 5/5/05 - Mama's had it's share of hard drinking celebrants. I doubt anything would tempt me back into that place. I haven't been - but what about Mojito Cafe - Southwest Queen Anne? The old buzz on the original was so good - what's happened in the past year with this place? Edit to add - has anyone tried Mexico, at Pacific Place? The reviews were favorable. Close to the Red Lion. (What is the appeal of that place by the way?)

Dungeness crab for the Douglas v. Morimoto battle would be my vote. ← I think they already did a crab battle - or was that on the original program? Too early for Copper River, yes? Wouldn't they love yet another publicity opportunity. ← Fay Jai, I wouldn't bet against you on this...wonder what Tamara got...

You are reasonable walking distance to Crow. Longer to the Belltown places, definitely a cab to Lark.
