  1. and a not so distant thread on same topic: more kids
  2. old topic: My Webpage though hardly exhaustive
  3. Restaurant Zoe has been mentioned as kid friendly - now that the owners have a couple themselves. It's a great spot, but you might check with them about menu options. How about Cafe Lago (sorry Carla...) or Vios? Not close by though. La Vita e Bella might be good, and it's pretty close (uphill.)
  4. The "sleazy" bar on Aurora across the parking lot from PCC has been gutted and they are installing ...a new bar! Well, it looks fresh and clean and they are working hard on the construction.
  5. She blogs! http://cafeblago.typepad.com/ (did we already know this?)
  6. He probably stays in business thanks to the New York Times! He's had more press there than just about anyone in Seattle (not counting Gates and Allen.)
  7. I also "sampled" Fresh Flours (eating in and throughout the day from the white bakery bag of treats.) The orange chocolate brioche was a tad dry, but still good. Not a lot of chocolate or orange actually. The latte was quite good, though handleless ceramic cups are a might challenging. I loved the matcha macaroon. Also the black sesame cookie and the chocolate hazelnut (?). The matcha shortbread wasn't as pleasing. The kabocha (not pumpkin!) squash muffin, eaten at day's end, may have been the best of the bunch! Moist, tender, not too sweet, with small chunks of preserved ginger, I think.
  8. Possibly "Gold" which is used for maraschino processing. Clear yellow. Another yellow variety, with a blush is Royal Ann.
  9. Hmm, Kabul? Never have eaten there. But there are many other ethnic places as well... Passport - wasn't there a place by that name in Everett? And the rotating menu thing, Coastal Kitchen and the likes... Now back in the day, there was a restaurant in Santa Cruz that visited a different country each day of the week, India Joes (?) was the name. Each day of the week featured one cuisine - Indian, Indonesian, Thai... elswinger - Blue Onion is / was on Roosevelt, just south of Ravenna.
  10. Luau was reacquired by the original owners and will be Luau, updated. The Madrona spot is now outpost two of Sapphire (original on Queen Anne.) New Owners.
  11. A favorite treat, even when in season. Like little bites of frozen cherry heaven.
  12. They take reservations...
  13. Gaspare's. Well, I wasn't disappointed as I didn't have high expectations. It isn't a place I will likely return to with all the other options in town, though proximity is great. The waiter was a doll, and his service style was actually better than the restaurant. The space has been nicely renovated and while loud, it was tolerable. The prices are high for what is being served, I think. Small salads, served for $4 (?) with entree are good sized and just fine. Plates of pasta for $13-$17, are serviceable. I actually liked the leftover puttanesca better cold than hot, though the oil slick was a bit much. Not too spicy, but a pleasant kick. The clams looked and smelled great (next table.) They were out of antipasta and hadn't started making pizzas as of Friday, but the joint was jumping. Not bad for 4th night of service.
  14. Was this their first night or a preview/mock dinner? I passed it about 9 pm on the 5th of July and it looked like the staff was flopped out on the porch - a long, fast night? Looking forward to trying it, though the menu is so old school. Still waiting for Fresh Flour to open...sidewalk, sidewalk, sidewalk...almost done.
  15. Seafoodish: Flying Fish - has a small back room too. Etta's. Not sure how Andaluca handles large parties, but associated with a hotel, I am sure they are used to it, yes?
  16. A new "diner" - Geraldine's Counter in Columbia City. Not a dive. Some good food - including sweet potato fries, and aioli. No espresso. El Camino in Fremont serves Sunday brunch - get your mex specials and drinks! Very good, not crowded. Service on the deck too.
  17. I was thinking this is the sale over in Freelard (near Fred Meyer and Hale's)? The big warehouse...may not find current models.
  18. In provincial Seattle, we await ICA featuring Tom Douglas (salmon, we betcha), and Tamara Murphy (no clue what she cooked.) Looks like we wait for August.
  19. I went to one a few years back, almost bought stuff to store for a future remodel (I didn't, that's insane behavior for me.) Can be very good, but the inventory is hit and miss and the assistance isn't like full-serve.
  20. What is PFI? Thanks. ← also know as Big John's
  21. I planted three cherry tomato plants that I bought at the Seattle Tilth sale and all three are blooming and one has two tomatoes. I'm very excited! ← Can anyone suggest a good source for tomato plants in the Seattle area? I'm getting a late start--and missed the tilth sale-- but want to grow some cherry tomatoes in pots. ← Beautiful organic tomato plants at Pike Place Market - Wednesday, organic farmers day - in the street stall. $3.00 and very big. Included some cherry types. Run.
