  1. Chris Keff (Flying Fish) and Tamara Murphy (Brasa) have also engaged in this type of thing before.
  2. You won't eat Crow at Crow - the thread I went recently - the place was rockin - good bar, fun kitchen line bar, good drinks, quality food - great salads, even in winter.
  3. I was there last week as well. I'd forgotten how white the place is - and hard surfaced. Might be a problem if it was busy or you are in a big group. I had a nice glass of red, a serviceable salad (the blue cheese version) and a sausage pizza. I liked the fresh tomato sauce and the sausage, but the crust really flopped in the center. The edges were just right, but the dough tasted a little flat to me - as in lacking salt? They didn't have the rice cake that was on the main menu but not on the dessert menu. (Carla - that bummed me out, as I had planned for it.) That said, I watched with envy as the next table shared the antipasto, lasagne, and a couple of desserts.
  4. Within walking distance, almost, Crow. 5th and Aloha - past Seattle Center, East side.
  5. Lark or Harvest Vine woud offer plenty of choices as well.
  6. Welcome kitchenmage, I never thought of Astoria as that close - but I didn't try the drive. Yes, you must have dessert - a review without it is so incomplete.
  7. Yarrow Point Beach Cafe has a January Special - Porterhouse for just under $25. Also, 3-course dinners for $25. No straight filet - but I bet they could accommodate a special request. Beach Cafe Matt's Rotesserie and Oyster House in Redmond Town Center? Haven't been, but I hear good things.
  8. I've always thought Zoe was kind of a feminine place - but looked around last week and realized there were a lot of men dining together. Palace Kitchen or another Douglas place might be fun - and different for out of towners. Tango?
  9. double post
  10. Anyone have the scoop on Roy's space at the Westin? Sign has been gone for some time, ladders and drop clothes visible inside.
  11. Wow, are they still around? A friend worked there many years ago (early 80's maybe?) - I finally tossed out an old bag last week - let's just say, some things are better off trashed. But I recall them having great products.
  12. Drove down Market (2320 NW Market Street) twice on Monday evening. Couldn't spot it. Probably their closed night and dark? What space did they take over? Or is it back in that icky little mall? Looking forward to trying it.
  13. This was good both as a social event and a way to eat very inexpensively. I was able to get into the bar and stand and eat, where I couldn't get a table too. Ridiculously inexpensive.
  14. this is why i don't bet. though i'm happy to pick up the dinner tab at whatever point. 750? man, that's cozy. ← Sucker bet - you didn't take it...
  15. So did we have a bet? Mine is 750sf!
  16. getting jiggy with their fish monger. ← Come to Seattle - the fish mongers will be happy to oblige.
  17. The Ark has new owners - a breathe of fresh air, or? Do let us know: The Ark and here is a thread: awhile ago
  18. the only thing worse than being surrounded by endless waves of yuppies in houses (i.e., Greenlake) is being trapped in an incomprehensible maze of yuppies in houses. it's like the triple-A team for Wallingford. and physics dictate that Kirkwood Place should not be able to intersect with Kirkwood Place. as a New Yorker, i have an irrational belief in the virtues of grids. ok, ok, so my 'hood of Maple Leaf isn't much better, but we do have the occasional crackpot and cranky, old-time Seattlite to keep things lively. people always say to me, "oh, wow, you're so close to Greenlake." and i always reply, "really? wouldn't know." also, i can't stand most of the Tangletown restaurants aside from Eva. like Luau -- what's up with THAT? and if i want to go have a burger at the Elysian, the original still has that would-be-grunge charm that makes me remember why i once liked living on Capitol Hill. this all sorta summed it up for me. ← Ouch. My block of "Greenlake" includes at least 4 homes occupied by the same families (or now single women in 3 cases) for 35 or more years. One definitely qualifies as a crank. We have fundamentalists living next door to homosexuals, young families, sex offenders (darn, the "tantric therapists" moved out a couple of years ago), and even some people of color. I have the option of two regular bus routes to downtown - and I put transit to use. I can walk to the grocery store. I'd be willing to bet you dinner that my house's square feet and property size is smaller (and thus, more conservation-friendly and less yuppie) than yours. Now, if only my nearest restaurants were places I enjoy eating, it would be more on-topic. Funny thing about "Tangletown" - a fairly new moniker - when I first stumbled into the area, it took me by surprise and delight. When I tried to find it again - to do laundry (the place where the bakery is now), I couldn't. I thought of it more as a Brigadoon.
  19. Here's a weird one - Isabella - on 2nd (I don't know anyone who's eaten there) is dark. A sign on the door says they closed due to the unsafe and unsanitary conditions in the building.
  20. Perhaps it's this new place, Crush, written up on seattledining.com? Crush Info Jan ← Holy cow!
  21. Hmm, posted Sunday but it's not here! 5th Ave, just off Denny - Bella Cafe has beer on tap, a wine list, espresso, and comfy furnishing. Cafe Amore, next to the glassblowing place, has pizza and beer advertised - not sure if the beer is on tap.
  22. Found Seville oranges at Greenlake PCC this weekend. California style - organic.
  23. Well, I really think you need to move this thread to "Canada, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Western Canada" or include some PNW & A specific information. But, to answer your question, I haven't been so fortunate, so I don't have an opinion on Tojo.
  24. I travelled some of the time on my own. Lunch for me was usually not the big meal, but a few times I did sit down. It was fine. As I was off the tourist path, I got some attention from older Italian women - but nothing more. The nicer dinners I ate at by myself, I sometimes ended up sharing my table - either with locals curious as to how I found their special place (thanks eGullet) or with fellow tourists - the quiet type - we didn't start chatting until halfway into the evening. Have a great time - and remember, if you see something you want, get it - don't count on seeing it in every place you go!
