  3. ok..much as it pains me to say this .... and may pain others as well.... courtesy of eg..not long ago i saw a pic of kings cake...ok..no matter how noble the name may sound...the colors were just so nauseating i just could not imagine myself ever wanting to eat it..im sure that for those who celbrate mardi gras it is as much a part of tradtion as fruitcake is to christmas...but then again..i wouldnt eat fruitcake either....it just looks way to weird and the few times ive managed to try it....the taste wasnt much better either
  4. im with you on this one..ive never used that recipe before either...but then again i have never ever put the meringue on hot filling..i always let mine cool down as well and then spread it on..ive never had any problems with my meringue unless i have failed to spread it ALL the way over the filling and the crust..in which case..its always pulled apart from the crust as it baked..but ive never had any problems with weeping regardless
  5. tex mex...there is this place acroos the street and up from the alamo i think almost directly across the street from the bandstand (the one by the alamo) that my fiance and i ate at a few months back when we went to visit my home town..cant remember the name of the place but im pretty sure its the only mexican place there..tex mex or otherwise...take the troly if u must but it is the place u want to go...lol
  6. there is no question as to my answer on whats my fav cheese...there is no way i could give an answer as there r many that i like so i wont make that choice however which country...france..italy or the uk no contest ALL OF THEM as each one has its own unique cheeses....

  10. i never measure salad greens...i just tear the lettuce..(no matter which one im using)...place them in the salad spinner to clean them and put them into a big bowl..mix it with other fresh veggies ...toss it...then give bowls to others and let them decide how much salad they prefer..if more is needed...i make more
  11. i take my lunch to work every day..as do many of my co workers
  12. Your ability to turn out an impressive meal on short notice frightens your Gay friends. ← ? i dont get it ← Then I doubt you would get the explanation. ← how odd...when my fiance explained it to me..i had absolutley no problems with my comprehension....perhaps your possible "explanation" needs more work... at this point i think we should leave it at this and get back to enjoying the topic at hand and the site in general
  13. ok ive taken some heat for what i said...thats fine...im sure hes a nice guy and perhaps he wasnt making a crack at me...i will allow for that...the whole thing just hit a very raw spot for me today as ive got a cousin who is gay who my aunt(his mother) told me this morning he recently got the crap beat out of him by someone who is homophobic...so seeing the post just sort of struck me as all wrong in light of recnt events with my cousin..i apologize to the person i popped off at...you had no way of knowing what had happened
  14. Your ability to turn out an impressive meal on short notice frightens your Gay friends. ← ? i dont get it ← Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we have here what may be the only U.S. citizen to have slept through the entire run so far of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." ← just because i didnt get it doesnt mean im stupid and yes i have heard of the tv show queer eye for the straight guy and ive even seen a few episodes...however ive also known plenty of straight guys who could cook very well and on short notice and of all the gay men ive known in my life i actually only know of one who WAS NOT a complete disaster in the kitchen ..i dont believe in sterotypes and quite frankly shame on ya'll for perpetuating them as well..so just because i didnt get it doesnt mean you have to sit there and insult my intelligence either...this is a nice food forum and i love this site but what i dont care for is snobbery or belittling people and people who try to create an atmosphere for intolerance of any kind...an ability to cook well and on short notice is not determined by ones sexual preference, ones race or releigion or even gender ..or whatever it is that may make one different in some way....your comment was totally uncalled for
  15. while i hope he isnt peeking at this particular eg thread.....im baking him a heart shaped chocolate cake (trying to do sugar free)..its the topping thats actually going to be the surprise.....so i wont say anythig more in case he reads this.....

  17. I must have one!!!!! That is the most brilliant key chain I think I've ever seen!! Boy would that save time at the next dinner party Ummm...anyone know where to get one in Vancouver? ← what about where to find one in denton or the dfw area?.....lol
  18. i think the better question would be what do you have now..that way we can determine what you dont have...then we can hit you with our best shots.....
  19. Basically when any trip to a new place requires a suitcase full of edible souveniers brought home of whatever the local delicacies/specialties are. I've come home with at least a case of wine, a bottle of Absinthe (just because I could and the idea of smuggling it in seemed so dangerous), jars of every flavor marmalade/preserve on earth, cans of foie gras pate, mild and hot paprika, chocolates, schnapps, chestnut paste, oils, vinegars, etc, etc. [twitch]But I'm really quite normal[twitch]...for a foodie ← love the twitiching....
  20. when you have a huge collection of books and only one or two are NOT cookbooks

    Butchering Jones

as of yet ive not been hit with that bug for anything other than cutting up a whole chicken...but given time who knows
  22. for my first marriage many many years ago...the quasi recption is something i would rather forget....my ex and i didnt have much money and so his friends hosted a recption for us...at the local jack in the box..... ...nope would never do that one again however the recption my fiance and i are planning will be more memorable...since the wedding itself is going to be seperate from the recption and we are catering it ourselves....i think it will be much easier to remember the menu and easier for us to be able to eat as well...right now the ideas are flowing since the recption is further away than the actual wedding..we have settled on a couple ideas thus far..but not many...i am looking forward to all of it
  23. my fiance and i both have a large collection of cookbooks and while im sure that there are some recipes that may be duplicated in others....we have the wide collection we have simply because we enjoy cooking and like to thumb through them for ideas..bear in mind that not every cookbook has the recipe you are looking for..for instance one cookbook may have a recipe for coq au vin while another may not;..or one book may have a recipe for chocolate chip cookies while another may not...cookbooks do vary to some degree in what recipes may actually be contained within their pages and variety is interesting.... and while i do realize you are just starting out in your culinary adventures...keep in mind that a recipe is merely a suggestion..you may take from or add to a recipe to make it your own creation...and by the looks of what you did with the sheperds pie with the stock...id say you are learning that part already..... welcome to the joy that is cooking and may your journey be filled with success edited to add... oops i just went back and looked again and i think i may have got the shepherds pie thing from another post i read earlier.....lol...however...i think you may get the idea

  25. oddly enough once i looked at the pics....though the shape does resembel a croissant to me it seems that basically its a version of a cream puff but made from croissants..which ironically after seeing the chocolate filled one..they used to sell chocolate croissants at the safeway i used to shop at when i lived in arizona
