  1. I already candied bacon for a porkfest not too long ago... Toffee covered bacon..
  2. I am going to say that this sounds pretty gross.. I couldnt imagine how the donut would hold up.. I also just got a gross visual of the donut soaking up the blood and grease.. Yikes..
  3. How about a triple decker sandwich.. Like a deconstructed egg salad sandwich.. First layer: Deviled egg yolks, Middle layer: Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato: Third layer: Marinated egg white salad.... Other Version.First: Bacon,Lettuce and Tomato on top.. (Quadrouple it maybe)Second:Egg Yolk salad, Third Egg white salad..(Chunks of egg whites cut in half moons, in a vingraette..) Edit to add.. Sorry, you should also try to throw in some paddle fish "caviar" eggs... Make it all classy like.. So like a triple decker white bread toasted sandwich.. With a top layer of deviled eggs w/ bacon,a middle layer of mayo, chopped butter croutons, paddle fish, and a bottom layer of pickled egg white salad Or a single sandwich.. Make an egg yolk, paddle fish creme fraiche mousse.. Make a spicy tarragon/chevril,watercress/herb bacon and butter crouton crumb salad to top... Or softshell crab, deviled eggs yolk, caviar, herbs, creme fraiche, and bacon..
  4. Hi Blanche, Judging by your name, you are good with the play on words.. But do these things really exist.. Soyrizo or I Can't Believe It's Not Bacon..

  6. Not food related, but I am definately going to fit in a bunch of good meals.. Going to Vegas for 10 days.. Coming home for three days and then going back to Vegas for another 3 days... Of course I will try for photos.. Looking forward to reading your review of Front Street.. If you or anyone goes in say hi to the owner Bruce of Front Street.. He is a real nice guy and I will happily talk BBQ with you..
  7. I did go there and had a quick lunch.. I ordered my food for pick up and then got caught up.. I went back to my meal after it was sitting in styrofoam for 3 hours or so.. Despite everything.. I thought the food was really good as was there special BBQ sauce.. Peter Lugeresque.. I am going away for a week and a half tomorrow, so I was going to do a full review when I had a chance.. I definately think Front Street deserves its own thread and believe this place is going to be a Destination Place..
  8. Adamru, I fully back your move.. Cut your losses and move on.. I might have taken the manager up on the free drinks, but you didnt want to.. These meals are too expensive and often too much of a process just to get a reservation, for everything not to be to your liking.. Many people just allow themselves to be mistreated and quietly suffer.. When people act with there wallets and show there disappointment, it helps all the patrons after you..

    Buddakan

Recent history suggests that there is often a significant backlash against these "designer's wet dream" restaurants. The price of the design is inevitably reflected in the prices. After the novelty wears off, people realize that they're paying extra for something they can't eat. Also, the big-box designed-on-overdrive Asian restaurant isn't exactly news any more. Buddakan joins the likes of Ruby Foo's, Spice Market, Ono, Matsuri, ENJB, Nobu57, Ninja, and Stephen Starr's other NYC entrant, Morimoto. (Have I left any out?) ← Ruby Foo's isnt a restaurant is it? I thought it was a bar with a lot of wasted space..
  10. Therese, Sounds like a wonderful time. I really enjoyed your post.. Thank you for sharing..
  11. Thanks for asking Smithy.. What did you serve your sauce with? I am glad you and your husband were well protected from those Vampires.. I have not even attempted the sauce yet.. I am such a scatter brain.. Its in the back of my mind, I will attempt it soon.. Make it with a picadillo and some rice and beans.. Or maybe with a lamb kebab and some basmatti...
  12. Who said she was hungover? She may have taken this. ← No way, Doc - I'm telling you, Diet Coke - it's a girl's best friend. Sometimes I like it even more than diamonds. Very rarely, but sometimes. ← Megan, Have you tried Diet Dr. Pepper.. I dislike soda and I like this stuff..If you are a big soda person, this is worth a try..
  13. There are a few restaurants that do this that I know of.. Turkish Kitchen in NYC comes to mind immediately.. My father has told me stories about going to places when he was a child that did this.. Besides being fun to melt the ice, I think this is done to show that someone is constantly cleaning and taking care of the bathroom.. To be able to maintain frozen ice in a urinal takes effort.. Also I think it shows that everything has been considered by the restaurant and its staff.
  14. jturn00, how was dinner..
  15. Rooftop.. I am a huge fan of the poke roll... Do you have at home? I have never seen it uncooked. Its one of those things you take for granted.. I would love to see a photo of how you buy it...
  16. That dinner looks really good.. Was this your first time making sweetbreads. How annoying to have to add the defrosting step.. Sounds like you did everything perfectly.. Did the butter burn at all while cooking.. I find a mixture of butter and oil or using clarified works good.. Also if I followed the bottle count correctly, there were two Rieslings and a Chianti.. Thats a nice amount of drinking, did we miss anything.. Thats funny you taking the bus to Citarella.. I am cooking dinner tomorrow night and had them deliver to me today.. This is also an option for days when the bus is too tough .. Have a happy Sunday..
  17. Some suggestions from someone with similar tastes as mine offered: 1) l'epi dupin- 11 rue dupin (6), right off rue de sevres (across from bon marche). they have set menu- 3 courses for around 30 euros. this is one of my favorites. it is closed on sat & sun which is a bummer & is usually booked. so try to reserve early. 01 42 22 64 56 2) l'avant gout- 26 rue bobillot (13) so delicious. apparently they are well known for their pot au feu which i have never had, but i had the most delicious l'onglet (hangar steak) there. also closed on sat & sun. this is one of jeffrey steingarten's favorites! 01 53 80 24 00 3) la regalade- 49 ave jean moulin (14) i haven't been there since they switched hands. but this used to be my favorite place in paris. it is the quintessential bistro w/red tablecloths & all. they used to serve the most amazing pate & bread & gherkins b/f the meal. i had a delicious brioche & smoked herring that was amazing. also no weekends 01 45 45 68 58 4) Le Grand Vefour - a real, incredible and timeless experience. I'm so glad we did this. Something we'll always remember. This is the one expensive restaurant that we felt was worth it. The food was great, and the decor hasn't changed since Napoleon used to eat there. We actually went for lunch. 5) La Duree -- Go to the one in St. Germain. It's known for it's macaroons, but it's amazing for lunch. Really cool back room. 6) Le Mesturet, 77 Rue de Richelieu (2nd) 0142974068 - It's relatively close to the Louvre and St. Honore, and really has a great feeling to it inside. I love the wine rack chandeliers. 7) Bistro Allard 41 rue St-André-des-Arts (6e) 43-26-48-23-- This was our hotel's pick. And, tourists or not, the food was EXCEPTIONAL traditional french cuisine. an incredible haricot vert salad and the sole meuniere, there is a foie gras and grenouilles, which were the best ever. They also had fraises de bois for dessert The escargot also looked amazing, as did the Bresse Chicken for One of our best meals 8) Bistro Mazarin - 42 rue Mazarin, (6e) 01/43/29-99-01This is right next to La Palette, and the exact opposite of Allard in the sense that everyone was a local or university student. They don't take reservations, and they're open Sunday nights. We thought it was incredibly reasonable, with the most expensive wine on their list being 50 Euros. We had the Cote de Bouef for 2 which was divine. Also, there seemed to be a lot of orders for, as they put it on their menu "the butcher's steak tartare," which looked really yummy. 9) L’as du Falafel - 34 rue des Rosiers (Marais) 01 48 87 63 60 - Wow! Best falafel ever. Enough said. Try to sit in the air conditioned addition on hot days instead of the main space. Really great fries and homemade lemonade, too. Use the red hot sauce on the tables. 10) Le Relais de l'Entrecôte 20, rue St-Benoit Paris, France 75006 01 45 49 16 00 10) In 6th just around corner from Café de Flore (best place to go for drinks and watch Blvd St Germain scene – Deux Magots is all tourists). They do one thing – steak frites – and it is fantastic. Fixed menu – salad, two helpings of sliced steak frites with a delicious sauce, and then they have a huge choice of dessert. 11) Favorite Chocalate shop (of many): Jean-Paul Hevin – there are 2 – one in 1st on rue St Honore near the Louvre, the other near the Luxembourg gardens in the 6th (don’t know address). Pierre Herme - really fun
  18. Indeed - NoHo ("North of Houston"), NoLIta ("North of Little Italy"), and so on. You also often see acronyms used for other neighborhoods, though you would read these as the entire name, rather than pronounce the acronym: LES (Lower East Side), UES (Upper East Side), UWS (Upper West Side), and so on. ETA: And how could I forget the (relatively) freshly-coined SoHa ("South of Harlem")? ← Ahh geeze there is something called SOHA now.. Thats ridiculous.. Techinically, most of Manhattan is SOHA..
  19. You really are doing such a wonderful job.. Doing New York proud..
  20. Great report titmfatied.. You didnt happened to be sitting at the near end of the bar wearing a blue shirt were you.. I think I might have seen you there today...

Seems like dinner at the bar is the right move after hearing about the mixed service. Sitting at the bar you have the bartenders ear and they were great..
  22. Please report back.. I havent heard much about this place since it has opened..Maybe if you go expecting the worse anything above it, will be a surprise..
  23. Haha.. For me I was more happy with the pickled tongue with the fried mayo.. I grew up eating tongue and felt real comfort with this.. They stabalized the mayo with xanthum I think and then fried.. It was awesome.. I jokingly asked the waiter for a plate of them.. And our waiter came back with a plate of them.. I was happily popping them through out the night. I actually shared a few with a couple sitting next to me who werent getting the tasting menu..
  24. Sneak great review! I too felt the sunny side egg could have been a dessert, especially with the cardimum.. The coconut or "egg white" reminded my of the skin that would be on a snowball, minus the flakes.. I was wondering who made that dish.. Wether it was Wyllie or the Dessert Chef.. In terms of the Shrimp Cannelloni with Chorizo Emulsion.. I thought it was interesting but didnt love it.. The dish ended up tasting like a hot dog to me.. From the consistancy to the taste, it was a classy hot dog IMO.. And we also share the same feelings on his food.. I was happy to see that his tastes have caught up to his presentations..
  25. So this is we have booked right now for dinner all nine oclock..Is this a correct time to be eating? 1)Guy savoy 2)Pierre Gagnierre- (In terms of not eating breakfast or lunch for Peirre Gagnaire, Ptipois, I take that as a personal challenge.. ) 3) l'Astrance I am assuming all these places above are going to be expensive.. We would love some less expensive, but still very special suggestions.. For Lunch we have two places thus far: 1)l'Ami Jean 2)Tellivant (booked for dinner) If someone could help with these please..
