  1. I would like to add a drink to the list.. Last night while out to dinner at a Cuban restaurant, I order this drink off the specials menu.. It was priced at 7.50 so, I it was a deal.. 20 minutes goes by and I have still not received my drink.. Finally, a huge pineapple arrives at the table.. Completely cored with the top placed back on.. They had emptied the contents, blended, and poured the drink back in.. I think I might have been the first person to have order this thing since the place opened.. It was really good but, they were made to order...I had to get something else.. I wonder how the people who dont like lemon drops would react to these babies.. I offer you the pineapple surprise: and his cousin coco:

    Pan Cubano

You might as well start roasting some pork then.. Good luck
  3. Went to Alvarez Cafe today.. Alvarez Cafe. (908) 289-4011. 511 Elizabeth Ave they have a website I have reported on this place before.. Today I went with my mother.. We split a Cuban sandwich, a steak sandwich, a tres leche and a bread pudding.. Here is a counter window filled with Cubans... Here is a sandwich opened up: Steak sandwich with ketchup, tomatoes, and potato sticks pressed on the grill.. One of the better tres leches I have had.. The meringue is awesome.. Super sugary and stiff.. You have to try this.. Bread pudding: It was ok..
  4. Honestly, I wonder if this story is really news worthy.. I think there is a story in here somewhere.. The fact that a reviewer attacked reviewers online.. I could see this as the opening for a great article on the affect that blogs have.. "Even Canada's most prestigious newspaper gets there inspiration from online communities".. We are buzzing around there head..
  5. Do you see how people could find it absurd that Canada's most prestigious National Newspaper is so caught up with an online food website.. In lowering your own papers "prestige" you have really elevated Egullet's status. Why read your papers food section, cut out the middle man and go to Egullet.. After all you are here too..
  6. Oh baby.. Its getting serious.. Randi has just broke out the maps.. After looking at this map, I think I just forgot how to get to Front Street. Seriously , where else would someone go through all of this, just so to ensure another peson gets some great BBQ.. Egullet, what a nice place..
  7. Wow.. Really thank you guys so much for taking the time to respond and educate me.. Its such a great way and fun way to cook things.. I cant wait to go through all this information..
  8. Here's a quote from one of the sites you posted : You must have good ventilation for charcoal use. I know you already know this... but please be careful. The Hilda grill and the black one in another are cute, but seem small for the way you like to cook. No? ← They are small for the way I like to cook.. I figured i would get like four of them and put them at peoples tables for like an app.. But check out this grill above.. I think I have solved the problem..
  9. I finally think I have found what I am looking for.. Here is a site with the charcoal and everything.. Getting a price check through email.. REAL DEAL GRILL
  10. Grill Here is a lodge hibachi.. Will I die if I use this indoors in an apartment..
  11. Here is a wood burning grill.. I think I might be able to get away with this for indoor use as well... Not really what I am looking for though.. wood burning grill
  12. I have found another item thats pretty neat.. Doesnt have the same affect or taste of an open fire.. But still a "different" presentation.. Hot Rocks.com
  13. This certainly something I will be careful of.. I too have the CO detector.. I wonder how using a few pieces is going to affect it..
  14. I found two more grills.. Still would like to find a stone one.. Here is a cast iron version that burns sterno.. Its the type of grill you would find on pu pu platters.. http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/...ce_1875_6373417 And another ceramic one.. Looks similar to the first one.. grill Here is something posted on ebay: grill Edit to remove links that violated something ...
  15. I was looking on the Pacific Rim Websitehilda grillunder grills.. I saw they had a Hilda Grill.. This is a japanese clay box with a wire grill where you can cook with charcoal.. I enjoy the whole process of cooking at the table and would love to have a few of these.. Although, I am happy with how there product looks, I was wondering if anyone knew a website that offered a wider selection..And am I correct to assumethe clay version will hold the heat of charcoal.. I am really looking for something made of stoneI would also like to buy some japanese charcoal..
  16. And of course something with marrow.. Either in the bone, or marrow raviolis in the beef consume I mentioned.. Or on toasts with a parsley salad a la FH..
  17. I dont know what kind of restaurant you are looking to fit the appetizer in.. Perhaps a beef consume with beef dumplings. Do like a hot rock.. Bring hot rocks to the table.. Put a piece of beef fat on top of the rock to make slippery.. Then have slices of raw beef the customer can cook on the hot rock.. Along those lines.. Bring like a little grill out and people can heat there beef sticks over a charcoal fire.. You could do korean style beef on a stick.. You could do a spicey thai salad with flank steak.. You could do beef empanadas, or some sort of puff, samosa type thing.. You could do mini kobe burger sliders You could do a beef tongue dish

    Onera

I am sorry to hear it was less then perfect.. Supposedly, Chef has left the restaurant to open a new place.. I have not been back since he left.. I wonder if anyone has heard any news on the new place or seen food quality decline at Onera..
  19. I dont know your friend, so I dont know what type of foods he likes, or what his living situation is.. But if he has a backyard, buy him a smoker. Besides a great gift, most likely you will get some BBQ out of the deal..
  20. I dont know.. I think that if you posted your feelings in a way that illustrates them.. Then you are still leaving it open for people to make there own choice.. Even with a bad review as long as you give your reasons .. I.E I dont like this place because the food isnt or is too spicy.. I dont like this place because its too fancy, too saucy, too noisy..

    Olive Garden

No UE, That is a sage butter sauce.. As I said, it was really just disgusting.. On the website they suggest these wines to be paired with the dish.. Red - Ecco Domani Merlot,White - Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay or Blush - Principato Rosato.. Perhaps thats where I went wrong
  22. The review from Rare sounded like the reviewer spends time in a dark room thinking about certain Egullet members.. She sounded like a truly unprofessional angry person who wishes she had half the talent or readers that the Egullet community has.. I have never read a review more completely worthless or mean spirited.. It had the insecurity and cattiness that I would expect to come from someone in High School..
  23. I think by not posting your true feelings on a place you are harming Egullet.. This is a place to give your opinion and post your feelings.. Once people stop doing that, Egullet will become one big Advertisement.. Spill the beans winegeek
  24. I am a huge fan of the parsley.. Can you describe the appetizer please.
