  1. Louis' Lunch.. A little box of a place serving meat patties cook in a special sideways broiler.. Meat patties are placed 9 at time into a metal rack similar to a fish cooker and then clamped down.. Placed sideways in these ancient broiler, they are seasoned with salt and pepper and are served medium rare on white toast.. We were happy to see that the old women from the Hamburger Special was manning the broiler.. There was a long line and she was banging these burgers out at a fevered pace.. Here fingers and hands were so swollen with arthritis, that she was using her hands like a huge mit.. Palming onions while slicing them, using all her fingers as a single claw to grab things.. She was a real champ and had been doing this her whole life.. She worked with the skill of a craftsman.. Here is the final product.. There are just a few choices one has when dressing their burger.. You can get onion, tomato, and a cheese spread.. No ketchup, no mustard. The burger is really good.. Its a meat sandwich essentially. Served medium rare the meat was juicy and perfectly done.. This was great burger, not the best, but certainly great.. I really liked the cheese spread they used as well.
  2. Thank you Dan, Angela, Kouign Aman,Suzy everyone.. I get the feeling you will be seeing some grouper photos really soon.. I dont know too much about the fish.. So I am excited to learn.. By the way here is a photos of those maps..
  3. A bit of clarification please. Why was your excellent New England adventure designated a mere "Unofficial Trip" as opposed to a genuine, official Road Trip? ← Please much love to New England.. It was soley on the title.. I posted the other four trips on Adventures in Eating.. Thats the only reason.. Since my trip was only in New England, I posted on the appropriate board.. So yes it was a road trip.. Era, I hope, era, that explains it..
  4. Thanks for the compliment... I think so.. My co-pilot who is not here right now does all the trip planning.. She has really out done herself on this one.. She has a binder type thing for each state.. There are just tons of information in each one.. If time and work allows me, I have a reservation at the Inn at Little Washington Sunday night for dinner. And we will be driving home from there Monday Morning.. I want to try to hit College Park for a Marathon Deli Gyro too.. So I am sure we are going that way..
  5. You guys are right.. Stone Crabs are a must... Holly, I checked out your website and was really looking forward to the guy shoveling the oysters.. Unfortunately they close in April.. I just missed them.. The other Louis Lunch.. They arent related are they? Thanks for the advice..
  6. I have never tasted Miracle Whip.. What exactly is it? I always thought it was the Hunt's Ketchup of the Mayo world.. Is it not Mayo?
  7. Could this recipe be applied to other sliced meats.. What if I had 5 slices of roast beef.. Or is there a completely different formula?
  8. Thanks for Dixie Bones.. We ate there coming home from our last trip.. Good thing about this place is there all you can eat buffet...
  9. Thank you Robyn.. Our main goal is to eat at roadside shacks and huts.. We are on a serious BBQ and Seafood mission.. The Inn at Little Washington is the only nice place just because its so high on our list of places to go.. Places like Georgia Pig or places where the shovel roasted oysters on to your table.. Georgia Pig is exactly what I am looking for.. Thank you so much..
  10. Thanks for your help Robyn.. We are flying from Vegas to Key West and then driving back to Manhattan..

  12. Its about that time again.. We have rented a convertible and will be heading from Key West to Manhattan.. We have never been there and are obviously very excited.. We'd like to hear what stops can't be missed between Key West and Manhattan...we'll be travelling mostly on US1 during the day making stops at various recommended places. However we will be hitting I95 from time to time as well. Love to hear your recommendations! A big help so far on this trip is HollyEats.com. Besides the five days, we have a reservation at the end of our trip at the Inn at Little Washington.. Other then that, we have no plan.. Would love to hear about best cities to sleep in also.. Thanks for your help as always.. Edit to add : Trip 1 Vegas to Manhattan Trip Deux LV TO NYC Road Trip III LV TO NYC Road Trip IV Seattle to Mexico TO NYC Unofficially trip 5 NY TO Maine and Back
  13. Haha.. You see, this is why I bring my problems to Egullet.. The same thought crossed my mind..
  14. Wanted to update everyone on my knife situation.. I was just cutting up some veal bones for stock.. I got through them with some hacking involved.. When I was through, I noticed these huge dings in my blade.. This is not supposed to happen with a good knife right? Should I just wait to the sharpener truck comes in front of my building or do I toss this.. This was the Tools of the Trade 10"chef.. Not a great advertisement..

Nice Daddy-A... I know you have the camera skills to document the process.. I would really love to see it..
  17. Since the amuse is included in the cost of dinner, it could be argued that it is for sale.. Or if I am wrong, then a restaurant could set something up where one could make a donation and then get a foie gras dish.. Like there is no price, only a suggested donation amount.. What are the penalities for just outright ignoring the ban?
  18. Yeh, I dont know about this one.. Fresser, didnt you mention she was a Vetinarian...
  19. I can imagine how difficult it would be to actually load this thing properly..
  20. So whats the word Fresser.. Didnt you get the low down from the friends at the dinner.. You didnt ask what she said about you? Or at least the lasagne.. A smooth move might have been to give her the lasagne in a tray of yours.. Thus giving you the need to meet again..
  21. I agree.. Same thing with smoking bans..
  22. I feel the same with about Cuban Sandwiches.. They are never on Cuban Bread and normally are missing or adding components.. Just call it a sandwich, or describe whats in it, but dont just call anything a Cubano..
  23. What a great blog Chufi.. I really have learned so much about Dutch Life.. Love the Zabar's Mug.. Its 3 blocks away from me.. Love your pictures and your writing style.. Thanks for sharing your life with all of us..
  24. I had a funny experience in China a couple of trips ago.. I quickly realized that a hamburger at my hotel, was actually a ground pork patty.. So its really Western Folk that are misrepresenting the Ham-burger..
