  1. Percyn, That looks like an awesome breakfast..
  2. I went to DB Bistro yesterday and had a really enjoyable lunch.. It was very crowded, so we were happily seated by ourselves in the bar area.. Here we sat at a beautiful marble table that seated six.. Although we sat on stools, we were comfortable.. I started with the Rabbit and Fois Gras en croute: It was a good dish.. My picture is a little yellow, but it was really pretty.. There were expertly halved baby vegetables... Some sort of aspic, which was flavorless and an interesting dressing.. The dish was no homerun, just done well.. Next I ordered the burger.. It must have been the wine, or the beer, or just a moment of weakness.. But I went for the burger with the shaved truffles.. Actually it was neither, I think it needed to be done.. I needed to try it for myself and its crossed off my things to do list.. Hopefully my write up will stop others from having to try it though.. Here is the burger fries and salad.. The fries were interesting. Almost like a twice fried Antoine's of New Orleans potato. There were fried twice and made to puff.. However, they continued to fry the potato so nothing was left besides the puff out outerskin. Surprisingly, the ketchup, mustard, and mayo for the fries/burger came out half way through the meal.. The salad was micro greens in a truffle vinagraette.. Here is the burger.. The meat is ground prime rib and braised short ribs.. There are truffles, foie gras.. The lettuce is frisee. There isnt ketchup on the burger but a tomato compote and sliced tomatoes are used.. There is a shot of mayo and shaved truffles on top.. The bun was fresh baked with parm baked into the top.. The burger is awesome.. I wont deny it. Is it my favorite burger ever? No, but it has its place.. The meat was prepared beautifully.. Perfectly made to order.. The combination of the foie and the truffles and the two meats all worked, creating this rich heavenly meat loaf.. If this place was less expensive I would throw this into my rotation of places.. But, it certainly is not.. Its really expensive, its really extravagent.. Some cons would be the burger had a lot of trouble staying together.. The burger itself is really tall.. It was hard biting the entire burger.. And of course the price was outrageous.. My girl got a chesnut/celeric soup.. It was pretty good.. I really enjoyed the combination between the two. Something I wouldnt have thought of.. She also ate the veal cheeks with crispy sweetbreads.. Have some of that in the fridge.. I might eat that for breakfast and tell you how it was.. Didnt taste it yesterday.. But she really seemed to enjoy it.. I wasnt overly impressed with the restaurant.. I thought the main room looked uncomfortable and tacky.. Everyone was thrown on top of each other, the tables were spaced weird.. I didnt have a chance to look in the back dining room.. But this is a place to go for a really nice lunch..

Thank you, thank you Shalmanese and Verjuice.. I was wondering if having a few scallops and a little lentil mixed with a vinegar dijon dressing might be over kill with the salads.. But maybe if I make a lot less of the lentils and make the scallops the main attraction of the dish, I could get a away making another salad? Or maybe I should serve the Quail with the Lentil salad and put an egg a top the salad? And make a different main with scallops.. I thought of cracking a quail egg over some type of steamed green and then baking in a mini gratin for a bit.. Or could I place a fried quail egg over the soupy polenta, under the mushrooms? Might be over kill.. Thanks for the articles. Really interesting.. Glad to see Onera got mentioned..

If pomegranites are in season over there, you HAVE to try a pomegranite sorbet. It's out of this world. Otherwise, I was quite impressed by my lemon-mint sorbet with dark chocolate: I guess you could also make a quail egg ice-cream of some sort . ← I am not that talented to make a quail egg ice cream.. The only thing I see myself doing is a deep fried quail and mini waffle, with a mini quail egg on top.. Served with a little syrup... But I am doing a healthy dinner.. Has anyone poached a quail egg? How does it come out and pointers

I am making Sunday Dinner tomorrow night.. I am trying my hardest to make a healthy dinner.. So far, I have two things I am serving.. I feel like I should make something else.. Besides a healthy dessert.. One Course: Lentil Salad w/ Scallops: Lentils with a dijon dressing. Grilled Scallops Grilled Quail: Figured I would grill quail w/ a soupy polenta mixed with wild mushrooms and a shot of truffle oil.. I was recently bought an Ice Cream Machine by my guests.. So I feel like I need to use my gift.. I need some sort of sorbet or sorbets that I should make.. Please direct me to any recipe you might suggest.. Also, does anyone see another course or dish I could add to the line up.. Also, also.. I have Quail Eggs.. Can anyone help me add Quail Eggs to the dish or a seperate dish..
  8. One Zorba please! Extra Feta.
  9. Nice Grub, Hitler is always the popular choice.. You psycho
  10. I had a skirt steak sandwich the other day that was really good.. I made a soy marinade.. Grilled with onions and blue cheese. I was very happy.

Hey thanks.. I dont know if the dogs made me sick.. Or if it was the amount of Ouzo I drank, so close to me waking up..
  12. I wish I could eat this huge meal with that Rossini guy.. I dont know too much about him, but whenever his name is on a menu, the dish is pretty well loaded.. He would of course pick the meal of his favorite things.. And I will agree with Petite that a meal with Henry the VIII would be spectacular as well.. Actually a combo meal chosen by both men would go down in the books..And lunch would have to last at least 10 hours.

Ok.. This was late night after a couple of Ouzos..I baked a hot dog with Pillsbury Biscuits..In one I put Jarlsberg and Cheddar with mustard and onions.. Grilled the dog.. Rolled in dough and baked... In the other I put feta,onions,mustard..It was really good at the time.. And continued to be good until a little before the time I woke up this morning
  14. I edited to add the address.. Its right on Elizabeth Avenue.. Its like a block away from the underpass.. So probably around 7th st.. Are there open markets being run anywhere you know of ,Rlibkind..
  15. Jason, Whats your favorite one thus far? Assuming it will change by your visit, next week or tomorrow..
  16. I still loves the hot lobster.. But, I hear where you are coming from with your great description.. I appreciate both styles and cant really complain about either.. And Red's is an awesome place. My problem is some places get carried away with the whole lobster salad thing. Using filler to hide small portions or old meat.. Red's and the better places obviously dont do this.. I could easily have any of these meals as my last and be happy..
  17. What is that supposed to mean.. Can you have a conversation with out attacking someone.. Apparently, you care because after I expressed my opinion and ended my thoughts.. You decided to take a quote of mine and comment on it.. I hope people care if I go or not. I hope people care about me in general..
  18. Menton, I have said that I will go. Its going to be in Union Square.. So if you visit New York and you want to take something authentic home.. Take the Holland Tunnel, shoot up Hudson and cross over on 14th.. Its right next to this big outdoor market where people are selling locally made produce, raw cheeses, meats, flowers, and other wonderfully prepared items.. Walked passed that old mess and look for the Neon Sign..
  19. Los Ranchos Vivero, 434 Elizabeth Ave Elizabeth Went to the Live Poultry Market on Elizabeth Avenue today.. The place is amazing..I appears they have everything that walks the earth.. They have suckling pig, they have over 60 pounders.. They have live turkeys, rabbits, ducks, quails, and of course chickens... I just did a walk by today.. But am looking forward to getting many things here.. Here you can see the chickens.. On the bottom left you have some turkeys in a cage.. This place is great. Looking forward to next Thanskgiving.. I got fresh chicken and quail eggs..
  20. I doubt that the outcome of Iron Chef is fixed.. I also would like to think both chefs are there to win and take the competition seriously..
  21. I must say the Grand Central Oyster Bar is an amazing place. Location, history, and experience alone, its worth going to.. Its a major tourist attraction, it isnt too crowded, and you dont get ripped off .. That is, if you order correctly.. Very few things besides the Raw Bar work... But it might be one of the best oyster bars I've been to... Mad selections .. Before calculating in its priceless location.. I have eaten countless dinners there.. But the most memorable times are sitting at the bar.. With friends, by myself. Just sitting in the basement of The Worlds Greatest Train Station, with no cell phone connection, eating Oysters and drinking Beers..
  22. As a kid in high school I would spend many of my weekends playing chess and drinking beers with friends on Thompson St.. We would go from the Chess Forum to the liquor store, to Mamouns or Sams Felafel.. Sam's use to be very good too. But Mamouns was always better in my book.. I think Sam's was sold about 5 or 8 years ago.. I have heard bad things since.. So in conclusion I would agree with Marscapone that Jerusalem and Mamouns are my favorite in the city.. Havent been to Ali Baba for Felafel, but had a really good shwarma over there..
  23. A couple of days ago I made the Sichuan Hot Pot according to Land of Plenty.. I added, pork, beef, mushrooms, eggplant, bok choy and these japanese angel hair noodles.. It was very spicey.. I loved it.
  24. Well wednesday nights just happen to be my going to Brooklyn Nights.. So I will keep that in mind.. Thanks for telling me.. Wednesdays also bring beer specials to Schnack..
  25. Alkazar Bakery 110-112 E. Jersey Ave Elizabeth, NJ 908-355-7866 This place is primarily a Pastry Shop.. I really like the dolce de leche offerings they have.. Also its proximity to the bank makes it very convienent for me.. Here is a shot of one of the glass cases.. The majority of these desserts contain dolce de leche.. I also get empanadas and these 9 layer crustless ham and cheese butter sandwiches.. The cheese is like a munster.. This sandwich is really simple.. Butter crustless White bread, a slice of ham, bread, cheese, bread repeat three times.. Sandwich is like 4 bucks.. I got a pound of these cookies for 8 dollars..Short bread like cookies with dolce de leche in between.. Powdered sugar on top..
