  1. My grandfather was born in mahattan, as was my father.. I was born in Manhattan.. Lived here till I was five.. Then moved to New Jersey while my parents maintained an apartment in Manhattan.. My grandparets, aunts, cousins, and uncles lived here.. I came in almost every weekend and have been living here full time for the last 7 years.. Does any of this give you insight as to why I am not excited about getting cheap trail mix?
  2. Thanks Fat Tony.. I wish I had seen your suggestion before I went out.. Had an ok Italian Experience at Frankies 457. Got a few crostini,(ricotta, white bean, mushroom w/ truffle oil.. All a little steep at 2 bucks a piece) and an antipasta. With pickled green beans, mushrooms, and olives. Some proscuitto and cheese.. And a very off plate of gnocci with red sauce.. The gnocci was wet and didnt hold any of the bland sauce.. We also split a Pork Braciole.. This was very good.. The red sauce was really like a gravy.. The Braciole had been stewed for a long time and easily cut with a fork.. Lots of garlicky goodnesss. Some places we passed that I might try next week when I visit.. South, Chestnut looked good, and I definately want to read more about Taku..

I have a rez at Bacchus, just to have something. I just made it like 5 minutes ago and want to cancel immediately If I am not going to go.. Whats the best out of these 4. Cost and experience both weighted..
  4. Katie, Your humor is really coming through in these last few posts.. And I get my eggs at a Portugese Bakery in Elizabeth, if you must know.. These super yellow fresh chicken eggs.. "So I have to work like a sled dog and don't have time to shop like a Parisian housewife. " I almost fell of my chair with that statement.. Haha But listen.. I told you that this is just my gut feeling.. I am not so close minded that I wont go there. I am going damn it. Leaving with a bucket of salsa under one arm and a pitcher of TJ's Creamy Ranch under my other arm..
  5. Are there prices going to be the same in every store?
  6. Great Mizducky, Looking forward to seeing San Diego through the eyes of a local..How exciting..
  7. Wow, people are out of their minds.. Sorry that happened, Badiane..
  8. Thats the thing.. To be a judge you dont have to like it to judge it.. You just need to judge it..
  9. Allow me to remove myself from this discussion.. I now know I need to go there before I dismiss it.. I respect all of your opinions and will go there because of them, eventually.. (Against every instinct I have) You all have eased some of my fears..
  10. First of all, besides meat and fish, I shop at the local Spanish Grocery.. Not even complex.. How many frozen pizzas will Trader Joes sell in Manhattan.. Will Dominos survive the hit..
  11. Lia, Lia.. I've always liked you and would never argue with a women in a cat outfit ... I am assuming all the sensible people besides myself are sleeping at this point.. But the topic is clear, care to put one of your favorite Trade Joe products against NYC?
  12. Whats the wine like there? Doc, are the nuts better then average nuts or just cheaper? Same question for the frozen shrimp and salmon.. Is the frozen shrimp cheaper then the live shrimp in Chinatown..Is there salmon just cheaper, or is it better then the salmon you can get all over New York.. Where does the New York store get there Salmon from..There tzatziki is it better then any tzatziki you could make or buy in New York.. And there herb salad mix.. Would it be better then the salad you could buy at Union Square Market.. A place where families and World Famous chefs all go to purchase there herbs.. Where a father of two could buy the same herbs, from the farmer, that a chef will use for a 20 dollar salad.
  13. The first thing I said, I know nothing about it.. Never been to one, dont know anything about it.. But its a chain thats coming to New York. Thats all I need to know.. Should this conversation even be in the New York thread.. Is there some general area we can collectively all discuss the chain. Or are the stores different from town to town..
  14. OK.. I having never been to a Trader Joes, I just know its bad. I would like a Pros and Cons list of the two. I know that Trader Joes is known for there branded products.. I would like a head to head contest between NY'S finest and this Trader Label.. I will spot Trader Joes five places.. Whats your favorite Trade Joes product? I think collectively we can find at least five places where NYC makes it better..
  15. I know nothing about Trader Joes except I dont like it.. I personally think chains for the most part have no business in New York City.. The only positive thing a chain might do is, expose people to ingrediants or foods they might not normally get. We dont need exotic herbs such as cilantro shipped in Via tin can.. Does New York need a place that makes "really great salsa" or a really "great salad dressing", when all it is really is just more massed produced crap... New York doesnt need a place to get generic crap.. We have the real thing.. Trader Joes, Dominos, Subway, Sabarros, Godiva, Pizza Hut, Olive Garden and Fridays need to spread the message elsewhere.. I have fears of people suggesting Trader Joes as a destination spot for tourists.. One of my best friends in the world lived in NYC.. He sat in his apartment, ate Fast Food night and Day, and never went out.. I said why the heck are you paying so much rent to be doing what you could be doing in any living room anywhere in the world... He moved to Michigan, he is just as happy, Dominos delivers there..
  16. Dr. Moore.. Have you been here before? What are your thoughts.. Are we meeting for a Philadelphia Grille/Amazing Dog Marathon???

Wow your lucky.. What a fun time that looks like.. Such great photos..
  18. I dont know jsolomon, It says in your bio you are into ethics and morality.. But now are admitting to dating a girl which was ethically wrong.. I am going to say you should change your interests in ethics and morals to smoking hot women..
  19. I dont know why I never looked at this thread.. The food looks great and right up my alley.. I havent been there once and already know what I am going to get my second time.. Just looked at the location on map quest 21 miles door to door..
  20. They close at 9o'clock.. As I said upthread the short ribs were great.. The meat is cooked in these rotating metal fish grilling clamps over a fire of burning lump charcoal.. They paint this wet rub on the meat as it spins.. Giving it a really salty, smokey flavor.. It almost had like a crust on it.. Very good.. I also doused the meat in tabasco.. I still stand behind my claim of them having the best BBQ Chicken I have ever had.. Its a half chicken with rice and fries.. Its super.. There pork sub is very good as well as there chicken sandwiches.. The place has a couple of tables.. And is on a fairly safe side street.. I would tell you to go there or Chick's Seafood right around the corner.. They have a bar and some good dishes too! I have had at Chicks, anything from Rabbit, to Chicken Salad, to a whole grilled fish.. Chicks and Portugual BBQ have an amazing cheese steak too.. Not Philly Style but actually a large piece of meat cooked churrasco style. Please report back on your experience..
  21. Another Portugual BBQ Lunch.. Got the short ribs.. Three huge short ribs cooked over that open charcoal fire.. It was smoking, juicy, perfect.. The charcoal is great, Cowboy Charcoal.. Served with a huge plate of rice and fries.. 9.50 Spotted a fairly new restaurant and picked up a menu today.. Its a Cevechira.. The full name is Cevicheria El Tiburon.. #3 Second Street Elizabeth, NJ (908)289-4078 Along with ceviches and fried seafood they offer traditional Peruvian Dishes as well.. Dont know what my week looks like but it looks like an exciting place
