  1. HEY WEENER! Make a reservation NOW for Django. hehe. couldn't resist.
  2. Sushi buffets. Oh man. Gross sushi, but good way to get your money's worth. Typically they frown upon not eating the rice, so it becomes a contest to see who can hide the most sushi rice in the strangest of places. I've eaten the meat off of 20 nigiri pieces, dumped the rice in a napkin, brought it to the bathroom, and flushed it down the toilet. Also, that big bowl of miso soup is incredible for dumping excess rice. Most of the time, they don't notice if you mix it up good. I swear they put some filler in the rice or something to fill you up faster. I never eat it.
  3. Wei-chuan is a pretty reputable brand..
  4. My family usually goes to Ocean Harbor because they've been doing so for years. They're all basically the same. Some do certain dishes better than others, but they're all generally comparable.
  5. Am I the first to correct Katie on the Fish n Chips thing? The signature dish of London must be Chicken Tikka Masala! (or curry in general)
  6. On a related note, I've never had shrimp n grits anywhere in the USA besides the Triangle. It's been a long time, but I'd love to have some Carolina bbq with some Brunswick stew right about now.
  7. I've lived in or around Philly my entire life except college, and I've never had pepper pot soup, let alone heard of it. Can you recommend a place? Philly's got all sorts of signature food. cheesesteaks, pretzels, tastykakes, italian ice, ice cream, cheesesteak hoagies, scrapple, roast pork, etc etc etc...... no wonder we're so fat. not as fat as houston and their kolaches though.
  8. The Eastern style is better. Of course I'm biased. There's also Tennessee-style pork barbeque. Even Pennsylvania has its own strange style of pork barbeque, though I wouldn't wish the PA style on anyone.
  9. I got back from Miami last night. I'll update this list later today after I finish some work.
  10. Lasagna. Lots and lots of lasagna.

  14. I use the Kirkland brand Olive Oil for italian cooking. I use Wesson Peanut or Vegetable oil for pretty much everything else. Asian cooking tastes gross using Olive oil.
  15. Although I understand many peoples' aversion to chains, I think sometimes it is a necessity. For example, around the large mall near Philadelphia, you won't easily find a local independently owned restaurant nearby. So if I'm hungry and I am shopping, I normally have to settle for a chain as a matter of convenience. My rule of thumb is that the smaller the chain, the better the food. A couple weeks ago, I ate at a Caribbean themed restaurant called Bahama Breeze that was surprisingly good. Of course, there's also a CF nearby, but I think the quality there has really declined in the past couple of years.
  16. International Delights on 9th Street in Durham makes a Middle-Eastern tinged Chicken Philly that can never be duplicated. Don't know if ID or Jihad is still around, but back when I was in college, I went there several times a week.
