  1. Basil is used quite liberally in certain types of Taiwanese cooking, especially "Kuh ja" cooking. I think it's a different variety of basil though.
  2. Yeah, add to the list: What's Egg Fu Young? What's Kung Pao chicken? What's Pong-Pong chicken? What's YuXiang RouXi? These names sound so foreign (perhaps quite funny) to non-Chinese speaking eaters... Ants Climbing on Tree... Phoenix claws... Cloud ears... Egg foo young is an omelette Kung Bao chicken is a spicy chicken dish with peppers and peanuts. Yu Xiang Ro Xi is a moderately spicy stirfried dish using pork, mushrooms, and a whole bunch of other stuff. bang bang chicken is boiled chicken with green onions served with sesame oil, soy sauce and hot sauce.

  15. On the Cheesesteak topic. Whatever you do, if you're out and about. DO NOT order the Quizno's Philly cheesesteak. Unedible, and they squeeze the cheese from a pouch. Except it's not cheez whiz.

  18. I feel safe in assuming you've never had an Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee's Best, Carlings Black Label, Rhinelander, Old Style, Michelob, Busch or even a Miller Lite. Miller Lite, now there's an example of a popular beer that I simply cannot abide. edit: Yes, Michelob is fantastic.
  19. I've had a decent meal every time at Buddakan. They're consistent. If you want to be a true workhorse: Go to Lorenzo's on South. Get a big slice. Then go to Jims. Order a cheesesteak cheez wit Then, get this, wrap your Lorenzos around the steak and enjoy! Take lots of pictures and post them here. Have fun in our beautiful (to us) city!
  20. Easy, It adds to the flavor, and separating the meat from the bone is such a hassle later.
