    Quick Pasta

If I buy bottled Pasta sauce, I swear by Barilla. It's better than the more fancy brands due to its simplicity.
  2. Just when the crowds were dying down....
  3. I ate the chicken blood cubes with rice noodles in a spicy stock. Pretty tasty, though the coagulated blood did look like raspberry jello.
  4. I don't beat them or whisk them at all! Add oil to pan. Break the eggs directly into the pan. Break up the yolks minimally while cooking, but don't beat them. Mix the eggs around to swirl around the yolk, and flip over a few times in teh process, but make sure the yolks remain largely separated from the white. Remove from heat when the eggs are still moist and soggy. They should harden up on your plate. Best eggs ever, and they look marbled yellow and white. Very impressive looking.
  5. I actually prefer Chain steakhouses to independent steakhouses. Not much originality is needed for steak, and independently owned steakhouses tend to be expensive. Don't get the hate for Outback. I've always gotten a perfectly decent steak dinner there, for half the cost of someplace like The Prime Rib in philly. Of course, a lot of chain steak places are expensive, namely Cap Grille, Mortons, Sullivans, and Ruths Chris.
  6. I see that many people have been brainwashed by Grey Goose's ad campaign.
  7. Maggianos and Buca di Beppo both blow Olive Garden out of the water as far as chain Italian is concerned.
  8. Wendy's Spicy Chicken It's number 6 on the menu.
  9. I use a Chinese cleaver for everything. It works, and I prefer a flat blade over a curved blade.
  10. Pasion! is a pretty impressive restaurant for high level corporate types.
  11. The irony is that Michelob itself is a fine tasting beer.
  12. i think philly has good bar food b/c we have a lot of microbrews that have good relations with bars, and the bar owners just figure might as well have good food to go with the beer if people want. that'd be my guess as to why NYC doesn't have as much quality bar food. not enough microbreweries, brewpubs, etc. also maybe not good enough relations between the microbreweries and the bars. don't know how many of the bars i mentioned in my post early in this thread serve after 10pm. i know a few of them do, just not certain which ones. i myself was just at copa too after 10 last night (15th btwn locust and spruce) and had a damm tasty burger. Bar food and BYOBs keeps in line perfectly with the city's gritty, DIY character. I know most bars serve food until midnight at least, many keep their kitchens open until one or even closing. For late night dining, you may also want to try Chinatown. There are several restaurants that stay open very late.
  13. I just use Genaurdis store brand tomatoes for my sauce. No one can tell the difference.
  14. How about Vietnam Palace (across from Vietnam). Or the old standby, Continental.
  15. I recommend Korea Garden all the way out in the 'burbs of Blue Bell.
  16. February! There's an R in there! "Feb-u-ary" is like taking a bleeping rake across a blackboard. I have spent time in France, but I am certain there are plenty -- nay, MANY -- French words I do not pronounce correctly. And I would be most appreciative of a well-intentioned lesson in pronounciation. What I don't need is someone who looks down on me, snorts, say's "of course" and walks away to talk about me behind my back, while all the while hoping to suck an extra buck out of my wallet. I rarely pay extra for condescension. The best menus are those which give the guest a choice. Difficult to do with wines, but easy with food. Beche-de-mer can be described as sea cucumber, soubise as a creamy onion sauce. Seriously, who actually pronounces the "r" in February? People who pronounce the 'r"? ......seriously creepy. Feb·ru·ar·y ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fbr-r, fby-) n. pl. Feb·ru·ar·ies Abbr. Feb. The second month of the year in the Gregorian calendar. See table at calendar. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Middle English Februarie, from Latin Februrius (mnsis), (month) of purification, from februa, expiatory offerings, possibly of Sabine origin.] Usage Note: Although the variant pronunciation (fby-r) is often censured because it doesn't reflect the spelling of the word, it is quite common in educated speech and is generally considered acceptable. The loss of the first r in this pronunciation can be accounted for by the phonological process known as dissimilation, by which similar sounds in a word tend to become less similar. In the case of February, the loss of the first r is also owing to the influence of January, which has only one r.
  17. I love em. Always strike up a conversation.
  18. Until I am rich enough to do otherwise, I will continue to buy non-organic, pesticide laden vegetables and rBGH laced milk. And be proud of it!
  19. I've had fantastic seafood served in a basket.
  20. Homer Simpson swears by this little rule of thumb. As do thousands of value-minded Brits. The common thinking is that buying the cheapest bottle makes you look like a cheap bastard, but buying more expensive bottles, is well, expensive. Thus, the compromise is to buy the second cheapest bottle of a variety on the menu, which keeps you from appearing cheap, but also makes you appear value-concious. But it seems that restaurants have caught on to this little rule, and some actually price the bottle that they want to get rid of as the second least expensive. Therefore, it then seems that the best way to dine economically, is to order the cheapest bottle, or the third cheapest bottle!! Anyone else subscribe to this rule?
  21. I've eaten at the Dark Horse. Primarily on Weekend mornings to watch soccer. Good pot pies and potato pancakes.
