  1. hmmm..if the fried corn tastes liek the creamed corn - the chef doesn't know how to prepare fried corn. dlc's method is abotu right - except i learned to add finely chopped onion to the grease (or butter) and soften them up first before adding the corn. and plenty of cracked black pepper for flavor.
  2. definitely South for me.
  3. kew! Timely posting of the rendang thread - it was the first thing that cmae to my mind when i saw this thread - and also i was looking to bump that today but i won't. I actually found rendang paste at my local Farmer's market and made it yesterday along with some steamed coconut rice. I haven't tasted it yet, since i wanted the flavors to meld - but we'll see this evening.
  4. well this has been bothering me - Dunkin Donuts new "lattes" in chocolate banana and chocolate strawberry -i'm not getting the taste combination and haven't tried on. perhaps to DD latte doesn't include coffee? on another note - McD's fruit and walnut salad isn't too bad. Sorta like a waldorf.
  5. lots of Indians on guam from what i understand - surely there's soem good indian diaspora food there. if i recall correctly String Hoppers (sri lankan bread thingie) should be available.
  6. egg with rice or meatball curry with puris.
  7. tryska

    Eggplant/Aubergine

eggplant curry definitely. raosted with honey. marinated and grilled into steaks.
  8. what's "gravy" to you pan? wait. have we had this discussion before?
  9. Not that this is exactly germane to the topic, but it just hit me: Is there such a thing as chewy granola? ← yes, but i think most people would call it stale. *lol* i'm kidding. I think chewy granola is basically meusli, no?
  10. not just granola. crunchy granola. actually crunchy granola tree-hugger.
  11. doh. locations give important clues to where people are form. yeah i guess carbomb isn't the best name for it.
  12. I think I would have to change the name of this ice cream. It definitely wouldn't work where I come from. ← haagen-dasz bailey's or "irish carbomb"?
  13. i grew up in syracuse and it was sauce with the italians i knew. i moved downstate and it was gravy.
  14. you might be able to help me - what's the name for the ones that are rainbow colored - red, green and yellow layered with jam, dipped in chocolate? they look like petit fours minus the coating on 2 sides? and also, this one i only had down on long island - it was rectangular, also covered in chocolate, but when you bit into it, it wa ssort of soft, and to me was reminiscent of chocolate and banana in flavor?
  15. like scrambled bailey's doesn't muck it up enough! *lol*
  16. i tend to agree with this. i see this disturbing trend among co-workers....they tend to value food by the pound over anythign else. if you can get lots of it, it trumps any idea of flavor and quality.
  17. okay, now i'm hungry. i've actually been craving the various tastes in a carbomb for a couple of weeks now. i'm jsut not down for the chugging (low tolerance) - so i'm gonna have to find some ice cream to do it for me. or maybe a guiness float with the haagen dasz Bailey's flavor. it's about time for that no?
  18. i sure can't. i still haven't had an opportunity to have a real carbomb. i just don't run in chugging circles these days.
  19. close but no cigar! it's actually monty python's quest for the holy grail.
  20. that reminds me - I did try a country sausage and fig preserve sandwich once. that was actually pretty good.
  21. dammit! i was going to post that one!
  22. yeah - the currant jelly and mustard all freaks people out at first, but once it simmers together it makes a very nice sweet and spicy type of thing. I like to use a very sharp mustard - either zatarains or grey poupon, typically. i think it would make a great ham glaze - in almost any of the iterations mentioned above. winesonoma - there's nothing scary about lil smokies dipped in currant jelly mustard sauce. it's quite good - i promise!
  23. lucky you, Ellen - at least you have Queens. I'm not sure where I can get truly good baklava here in Atlanta, or any other sweet, really. I'll have to do soem research.
  24. wow i never heard of this version. i usually do lil smokies with currant jelly and spicy mustard sauce. ← Interesting. So do you just cut up the hot dogs and cook them in jelly? Sounds tasty. That salty sweet combo thing going on there. Never heard of it before now! Hmm...please provide details! (I work with Ally McBeal types...I'd get my jollies bringing this in!!!) ← the way i learned it was just dump a can of currant jelly in a saucepan, and add the spicy mustard, and then bring to a simmer. and then done. i'm presuming ti works the same way for grape jelly and chilli sauce.
