  1. trust me - stout flavored ice cream is really good.
  2. i've found white pepper tastes like nothing too, but it let's a cream sauce look pristine. i still prefer rustic with freshly cracked black or multicolored pepper tho.
  3. can you see jesus or the virgin mary in any of the containers?
  4. tryska

    Panko

    meatloaf.
  5. i like the eggplant idea. i had this fabulous honey roasted eggplant once, in, of all places, a work cafeteria. (to be fair - it was Nortel, and it was state of the art - the food was great for a captive audience)
  6. actually i don't know pan. i'm embarassed to say i have newver used ajwain for anything. i think it might be a north indian spice.
  7. you can use cardamom to make chai with.
  8. Good point about the expensive things, true dat. I've tried the Vaseline and sock thing and I found better results with the gel-lined gloves. 'Sides, you can pretend that you're pampering yourself at some posh spa. Ok...that was a biiiit of a stretch! ← Truth to tell, I only said vaseline because it was mentioned earlier. I've only used castor oil on my feet and hands covered with socks or gloves overnight - used it without the socks on my pregnant bulging belly - cured the infernal itch and I never got one stretch mark. And I've never used the gel gloves so I do defer to your better judgement there on the comparison. ← *lol* since we're telling the truth, i've always used either shea butter or cocoa butter. My mom uses the vaseline trick on her feet tho.
  9. my mom makes an indian version of cereal mix... it's corn flakes, rice krispies and special K, spanish peanuts, golden raisins and dessicated coconut, tosse din a very spiciy masala, most likely including turmeric, cumin, chili powder, salt, and garlic powder. i thinkt he coconut gets toasted along with the spices prior to mixing too.
  10. wow i never heard of this version. i usually do lil smokies with currant jelly and spicy mustard sauce.
  11. for burns i use pure aloe - either from the plant itself, or i keep an emergency aloe gel stash, that's 99% pure aloe gel. it eases the pain of first degrees, and some mild second degrees, and dries them up and flakes them off in a couple of days.
  12. use them to make tarkas for your dals and add to your rasams of course.
  13. savory. being indian i use mace quite often.
  14. mmmmmm! i'm a big fan of stout ice cream.
  15. fg, i think you just channelled alton.
  16. food grade cocoa butter is a great idea. better than butter for work time. well unless you're working with butter.
  17. before you go to sleep, slather them in either vaseline, olive oil or shea butter and put mittens on. as for during work, slathering them in butter might actually be a good idea.
  18. that's totally what i was thinking off, when i thought of puff pastry thingies. cranberries and brie. love it.
  19. something tells me they'd prolly love that, sad to say.
  20. mushroom turnovers! i used to love making these when i was a kid and they are great for a appetizers. the original recipe i used came from good housekeeping i think, and i don't think i wrote it down. but it might be in my mom's big book o'recipes. here's a similar recipe: http://www.runnerduck.com/11-08-02.htm i don't remember using buillion cubes - i could have sworn ours had thyme in it. but the cream cheese and sour cream are on target. if not that then maybe puff pastry turnovers with a filling of your choice?
  21. someone here was looking for an irish carbomb ice cream flavor recipe they wanted to experiment with. i thought that would be really good - guiness flavored ice cream with a whiskey/irish creme swirl.
  22. i switched to it in bits and pieces during the commercials on TAR. that poor kid. what a numbnuts. i can only blame it on him beign not too swift and also not too mature. i thought the funniest part was when they started going around town, and all the locals definitely preferred steak and potatoes to frou frou scallops. vless his heart, he really did try to go upscale didnt he? the horrible state of the kitchen after the visit tho, there was no excuse for it.
  23. We haven't found a source for pick-your-own rasp, though, and don't really have the yard space for a patch of our own. If you can believe it, we got rain today, after a few inches of snow yesterday. But it's fall in Oswego and therefore it's been windy the last few days, with gusts on the order of 50 mph coming off the lake. Not quite like last fall's windstorms, but enough to make for a good soup day nonetheless. MelissaH ← how about just going out in the woods? that's where i used to get my berries. (don't know if that's illegal or not tho. hee hee) as for the winds i don't envy you at all. I miss the skiing, but i don't miss the cold. i live in georgia now.
  24. my mom made our food on the fly, when we were kids. ie she'd cook whatever the meal was for my dad, and then wash off whatever spices might be on it (usually it was curry) and whiz it in the blender with rice, and most likely dal, or whatever veggies and feed it to us.
  25. that's not a decent hour!
