Thanks for the report, sockii. If for some reason you're not provided with a car next year, you probably can pick up on Enterprise's $9.99 a day weekend special on a subcompact. For $30 (or even $45 for a compact), it'd be worth it (at least in my book) to be able to get away from fast food/buffet hell.

Gene Weingarten, writing in the Washington Post about online news stories and the accompanying readers' comments: "I basically like 'comments,' though they can seem a little jarring: spit-flecked rants that are appended to a product that at least tries for a measure of objectivity and dignity. It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."

We had a car--drove it 10+ hours from Philly there & back again (UGH).

Mostly it was just the fact that by the time we finished working the show, it was so late most nights all we wanted to do was grab something quick and collapse. Not fun! But if we coordinate better next year we might have more time & energy to explore...

Downtown Lansing? There are the usual suspects. Majority is just across the street from the Capitol: http://www.redcedargrill.com/majority/index.htm. If you haven't been you must go. The interior is fantastic and the food is great. Closer to MSU campus is the State Room at the Kellogg Center, which is good.

Most everything else downtown in geared towards speed. Except for Troppo. I have never been but have heard some interesting stories from former employees that have kept me away.

Looking for recommendations for lunch downtown on a weekday.  Anybody got any?

Also, there's The Spotted Dog Cafe on Washington, with excellent prepared salads (e.g., chicken salad w/dried cherries or Italian tuna salad w/Parmesan, black olives, garlic, and lemon) and soups. It's often crowded during peak lunch time.

Nowhere, sadly - my lunch date become unavailable. We were planning to go to Majority. Ah well - we may get another chance in a week or two.
