Years ago there was a decent place in Clifton called Cavalier Cafe. The food was decent, but the real attraction was the music. They had live jazz and blues most nights. They always seemed busy anytime I went there. Then they were gone. anybody know why they closed? Any idea where the chef went? Is there a place with a similar vibe, live music and palatable food in northern NJ?

Help!

Blend has jazz.  :raz:

Unfortunately they also have crappy food, lousy service, and a wine list without vintages on it...I think I will just bring my harmonica next time we go out...

Cavalier Cafe closed about 5-6 years ago??? Was there once and it was IMO awful. Actually remember having a fight with the owner who insisted that my inedible fish was fresh.

i really liked this place and still miss it. it was our go-to place on friday nights if i worked late and we didn't feel like venturing far.

it closed in early 2001. i heard that the owner simply got married and moved away. a long time ago i tried to track down the chef and if i recall correctly, he was at a place in paramus called bisque[?] for a short time, but then he moved on and i don't know where he is now.

now it's an italian joint.

lou, now you should use the "reply" button at the lower righthand corner of the post (as opposed to the upper right corner).

Blend is in Ridgewood, and by all reasonable reports, sucks. although a friend of mine closed the place one night and claimed it "ok to close." i don't believe that he actually ate anything, though.

I don't want to turn this into a Blend thread, but Blend would be pretty cool provided you ate dinner before you went... :raz:

So...eat dinner at C46 on your way out of the city, and then hit Blend for the bar!! Doesn't that seem like a reasonable solution?
