Being that i am half Pennsylvania Dutch i like to get back to the roots every now and then. There was this place i use to go with my mother off of route 27. Its this Amish Market that is only open on i think Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays. Not like the broke ass market in NYC, where people refer to it as the AIMISH Market. Its run by the amish who arrive a la horse and buggy with various foods. They have everything from homemade potato chips served by an authentic handless man via farming equipment, to ring bologna, to summer sausage, scrapple, home made cheeses, and pretzles. They have everything from my days at my grandmothers farm.

Firstly i wanted to inform everyone of its existance, second i want the address. Oh the shoefly pie, unbelievable.

Are you setting me up to disagree with everybody?

The place is called the "Pennsylvania Dutch Farmer's Market" and its address is listed as "Route 27, Kingston, New Jersey."

It was open yesterday - 7/1/04 - and packed. I'd be very surprised if this place closed.

Word to burger.. That is the exactly the place. Is the guy with the hooks selling the chips still. If you go back i would highly recommend getting chicken pies and make sure you use apple cider vingegar with them. Summer sausage and cream cheese rolled up, or on white bread with butter and potato chips. Also they do a monthly pig roast that cant be missed. They have anything going on for the fourth. I wouldnt be surprised if there is a pig roast this saturday.

They guy with the hooks hasn't been there in months, that stall is run only by women these days. Nobody is more formidable in price negotiations than a Mennonite teenager!

I find the pig roast to be a real dissapointment. The meat is stringy and the sauce is way too sweet. That red barbecue wagon about five miles north on Route 27 (I forgot the name, but it's been discussed here many times before) is far better.

Remember though that south Jersey offers an amazing universe of barbecue and that's always in the back of my mind when I see things like the PA Dutch pig roast. Drive down Route 40 sometime.

I'm not sure if they are still open. I think there is an Amish Market on Rt 202 near Flemington.

Ok..So i made a call to my old nieghbor. The guy who still gives me pheasant meat over christmas and warns me of the buckshots in them.. He told me that the flemmington market is alive and well. Here is a link. I have so much eating to do in NJ. Things could be worse. http://www.google.com/local?hl=en&lr=&ie=U...56123&oi=locald
