Much as I admire Ramsay as he has become more famous I have felt less inclined to visit his restaurants, I can't really put my finger on why but I am always willing to stick up for him with people who don't know better :raz:

I think he will now attract a whole new customer type now, people that know nothing about food and have shown no interest in it before are suddenly a little impressed and expressing an interest in Ramsay and his restaurants. Whether more experienced foodies like it or not we all started out like this so perhaps it can only be good for us all: the masses will begin to appreciate decent food and high end chefs will be forced to start (re)producing more exciting food (again). :smile:

Ramsay was interviewed on Jonathan Ross last week and claimed to be returning to his own kitchen for the next 6 months, so it looks like I was wrong about his forthcoming media assualt (possibly fronting a game show etc). That said, he was on the front cover the Observer Food Monthly on Sunday, and I did spot him in a "Give Blood" advert yesterday and there is the rumoured Walkers Crisps campaign...

So has Ramsay changed anything with this series? The only chefs of his equivilent standing to do telly in the UK were the Roux Brothers, and then it was a rather gentle cookery show. Ramsay has rocketed into the consciousness of 7 million primetime ITV viewers. As a result of watching, will they be more understanding of what goes behind the scenes at a restaurant, will they be better customers for that knowledge? Will their curiosity be sparked as Matthew suggests or has it been just another reality show with the food and cooking as side issue, no more important than a plexiglass cage full of spiders?

I can really see Ramsay becoming the next Ian Wright. In my opinion, there is likelihood that the autumn Saturday night line up on ITV will feature Ramsay in there somewhere, perhaps fronting a game show.

Well, not 100% accurate, but as we now know from this thread Ramsay will be fronting an American version of the show this Autumn. So much for returning to his kitchen for 6 months and getting his head down.

The sad fact is that Gordon Ramsay could make reliable specialist cooks out of just about any collection of cretins with minimal muscular coordination -- that's what chefs had to do before cooking became high fashion --

looks like there's another installment of this tomorrow - Jen Ellison and James Dreyfuss cook for kids at GR's old school?

I probably shouldn't watch it ... but I bet I do!

Major noob here... YKL, what channel airs this new installment you refer to? I've never seen the show on TV in the US. I guess I'm foolishly assuming you're living in the US.

...which has finally reached our screens. Will his next book be titled "A Passion For Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding Flavoured Crisps" I wonder?

GR could face a lawsuit after a "shoving match" with one of the contestants of the US version of the Hell's kitchen show, in which the contestant sprained an ankle needing medical treatment.

I loved GR's comment to the whole thing, especially this bit:
