Christian's Continental Cuisine

I stopped by this new restaurant in Teaneck this afternoon-

368 Cedar Lane

I picked up a menu-the place was empty-

I don't think they have been doing well-not enough publicity-

The waitress said they were changing the menu next week and adding venizo, rabbit, etc

Has any one eaten here-

there were 6 main entrees

dry aged ny stip steak au poivre

seafood bouillabaisse

pan roasted veal chop

semolina crusted grouper

australian herb crusted lamb rack

sauteed french cut chicken breast

salads

boston bibb

baby field greens with tomato

classic caesar salad

The location sucks. It was previously a pretty good Spanish/Mexican fusion restaurant, La Posada.

http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=4439

Christian's has been open at least 9 months, it opened in January of 2003.

As far as we know, nobody has gone into this place yet.

Jason--I listed Christians as being open in August 2003 on Table Hopping With Rosie. I don't think they have been open 9 months.

Check the original La Posada thread. The restaurant was finished and remodelled in January - I can't imagine it took 7 months after that.

I'm the one who noticed them in January 2003. They definitely looked ready to open, although I don't recall actually seeing anyone inside.

Yeppers, it took a real long time to open.

September 2003 sounds right.

well, the kiddo's are gone for the night- So , we're trying it tonight.

And for the Record, Mexcalli Blues - also just reopened on Queen Anne Rd in Teaneck.

Posted

Kelly - Mexicali Blues - same owners?

And do tell us more about Christian's Continental. I thought it was very brave - or naive - of them to name it that, considering how "continental" fare is maligned these days.

Posted

I don't have the menu , so this will be vague

we started with 2 apetizers-

Baked scallops G**** ?

Bacon, bread crumbs,wine

Amazing- there was this spice - perhaps nutmeg - Just delicious - I want to take bread and sop up all the sauce.

Mussels in a red sauce - also done extremely well, very tasty. We were fighting over the last mussel.

My dh had the special -

Steak with fried shrimp on top, oriental influnces-

My dh doesn't let me touch his main course but he enjoyed every bit of it.

I had crab cakes- I think No filler, nice sauce .

All entrees serve with aspargus & carrot - Firm in a gently seasoned sauce.

good coffee.

for desert- I had bread pudding- It was so good but I was so full that I brought half of it home for breakfast.

Dh has homemade vanilla ice cream - you could see the vanilla specks.

All deserts are made on the premise.

Service was good- Not pro's but very attentive.

The resturaunt had two other couple when we got there at 7, but by 8.40 - it was filled.

The Chef is a true artist.

I would put in on the same level as chez Domanique .

So good - dinner ran just under 100.00 with out tip, that does include two dewars & waters.

Did you get to try the Christian's Restaurant?

I was there for a baby shower. The food was out of this world. We started out with crab cakes and fried calimar served family style; then to a lobster risoto, the flavors were out of this world. Not one person was speaking during this course, we were so involved in the food. After we had a salad and for the main course we had a choice of chicken or halibut. Needless to say the chef made homemade crumbulee, which I can't even find words to describe how good it was.

This restaurant is highly recommended by me.

Thanx Pramod for typing out the menu. After reading it I couldn't help but go to give this restaurant a try, and after this crazy weather that we had this weekend, my wife and I needed to get out of the house.

I have noticed the place upon passing down Cedar Lane, but I hadn't really heard anything about it. Though I must say, after eating there I don't know why they aren't the buzz around town. The food is superb, and the flavors and styles are like none I have ever had before.

For appetizers we had the crab cakes, which were unbelievable, and the spring role. We then had a boston bibb salad and a ceasar salad. For the entree I ordered the steak, which I had medium rare and it just melted in my mouth. My wife had the chicken stuffed with mozz and proscuitto, and just looking at it made my mouth water, that is until I tried my steak of course.

The desserts are homemade, I had the bread pudding and my wife opted for the homemade vanilla ice cream. Oh and I must say that their bread is also delicious. Don't know if it is homemade though.

The place is small and very cozy. The atmosphere is great as well as the service and the food.

For anyone who hasn't tried this restaurant, you don't know what you are missing. Thanx again for the postings which got me to try it and made me a big fan of the restaurant

 a very full and satisfied restaurant goer,

Josh
