NJ eGullet Dinner at China 46

Kim's compiling the numbers, tommy. Kim?

JIC, for Jason & Rachel:

Sat 31: yes

Sun 1: yes

Sat 7: yes

Sun 8: no

Rosie & Lowell are only available on the 8th.

If it ends up being the 8th, Jason and I might stop by to say Hi after a big family party in Brooklyn, but I doubt we'll be ready for a Chinese banquet.

Ok, we'll keep this open until a bit later this afternoon...say 3-4ish, and then we are going with the most popular date, and then we'll announce the date, and then perhaps Rachel can pin it and we'll get a final list. Whew, the NJ board, working like a fine tuned machine! PM or post it!

OK, the 8th got the most votes, closely followed by the 1st. So, I guess its the 8th. Now, time? Earlier, its a Sunday. Not to early, its a commute for some. 6:30? 7?

I think you should stick with 6 PM, as the last time we were there for about 3 hours and some people have a distance to drive. Sorry we won't be able to join you guys. If you are just a large table, you don't need to order the banquet ahead of time. Once we know how many people are actually going, we'll suggest a menu to order.

I'm 10% more commited than Tommy, which is pretty much a sure thing for me, though count me as 1. The wife has plans. I don't care too much, but I'd prefer it a bit earlier considering the last one went on and on and on and on.

i'm game for earlier.  but, i think we're only getting about 5 people for this.  shouldn't be much of a problem getting out of there a bit faster.

My combing of the threads show:

201- any date was ok, so I included him

Rail Paul and Dee

Mark

Glenn

Rosie

Kim

JPR was interested, new poster, did not give specifics on date

Double OO was not a definite NO, but Sat's preferred

Jon never specified a date or preference, or even a yeah, but was active on thread

edited to add Tommy, of course.

So it sounds like you'll be one big table. If tommy's going, then I won't worry about someone pointing out the yummy things to order. As I said before, our party is out in Brooklyn during the afternoon. We could attend, but I doubt we'll be up for a banquet. However, the last time this part of the family threw a party, it was so crowded and with blah food, that we left early and went to Craft. Therefore, we reserve the right to show up unexpectedly.

Also, last time we were there, Cecil said we didn't need to set a menu ahead of time for under 25 people, but it would be good to call a day or two ahead so they can set the tables aside. I recommend people bring cash to pay figuring $25-40 pp, and BYOB.

I've changed the sub-head, but don't think it's necessary to pin the thread, people tend to not see pinned threads.

If Tommy handles the ordering and the restaurant end of it, I'll handle the RSVP list and the money details. I assume we won't have a final $$$ figure until we know how many and what the preordering is..but Rachel's 25-40 bucks per is a good ballpark. Rachel, don't mean to curse you, but I hope the food at your function sucks and you join us!

I don't think we'll need a booze coordinator, but can someone volunteer putting together some "better than mapquest" directions, say from the turnpike and the parkway, or 287 or somesuch.

REgarding RSVP:S I would greatly prefer no

"Anonymous" guests, but you can RSVP either by this thread or PM'S.

*edited, realized how important the apostrophe is in PM'S

Yeah, mapquest doesn't seem to know where China 46 is located. Officially, their address is 88 Rt 46 West, Ridgefield, NJ. It is just west of the Grand Avenue exit on 46.

Directions

From the south: Take the NJ Tpke towards the GWB, after exit 18W, bare right at the 46 E/W division and get onto 46 East. You will see a movie theatre sign and then China 46 on your left (the opposite side of the highway), make a U-turn at the Grand Avenue exit and stay to the right. The second driveway (very quick succession) is China 46. It is in front of a Days Inn that is still being renovated.

If you are coming from NYC, take the GWB to 46 West. China 46 is immediately after the Grand Ave exit.

Here are the two pertinant threads about the dinner there last year:

bumping this up a bit.

kim, do we have a guest list yet? or at least round-about numbers?

i stopped into china 46 the other night and had some excellent shrimp with young yellow chives for the second time. small shrimp, which i usually find i don't like, but excellent. a great, fresh-tasting dish with what would appear to be very few ingredients.

My ex might meet me there with the kids, since its father's day..but I'm not sure if they are dining with us, I will know later today.

I edited the above to reflect the current standings, as I am aware of them. I have been off line a few days, hopefully I caught up correctly!

the large tables hold 10 people comfortably. *maybe* 11 or 12. i'll call cecil and find out for sure. however, we might consider putting a cap on it at that number, as opposed to splitting into 2 tables of 6 or 7. one big table would probably be preferable.
