BBQ Brawl Season 5

Recommended Posts

BBQ Brawl has started season 5

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10765680/episodes/?season=5

some many cooking shows have Histrionic's that are off putting .

this show's format and etc  are for me amusing and a bit tough in cheek

Im a fan of BF.  he understands side dishes  like no other .  Symon is not in the later series

the equipment is interesting , and seeing the teams ' work their food up '  give me ideas.

I much prefer this sort of thing to various other Best Chef work-outs

for review purposes :

the set up

1.thumb.jpg.7b761fa81811af0fe95bea24ae0c1e00.jpg

4.thumb.jpg.89cad4f894cf3020e6454e32783a6c8a.jpg

the smaller unit on the left , or down at the L bottom is where the ingredients are for ' picking '

2.thumb.jpg.98e198b07e67dd03940deeed0da9b0a3.jpg

3.thumb.jpg.1203b3064b3dc3da9f5bfb0ea4af339f.jpg

5.thumb.jpg.f3755477956cb9876584db268150adfa.jpg

some very creative stuff is made , and the three ' star ' chefs also cook

and , what is better than cooking outside , vs a Stadium or Studio ?

Episode 2 is here

and the show continues to have interesting ' events '

still a bit tongue in cheek  , and amusing :

first is a Speed Relay , where you make a series of items , fast to produce

burrito :

111.thumb.jpg.674cc8bfd92588cc6e449476c6f067ee.jpg

the team m makes one at a time , moving through the series

222.thumb.jpg.9a4c4e376f170284efec7a9401a67048.jpg

333.thumb.jpg.c1f5468d04e9b159da34bd1ed2638ac0.jpg

the slowest team is eliminated , thus :

444.thumb.jpg.3fa6b0da335e794a7355934d7dec233f.jpg

and

555.thumb.jpg.35c8143dd0d13d45714dceeacac0cc0e.jpg

Id enjoy any go these , including the slowest team

the next Event is interesting  :  three refrigerators

6666.thumb.jpg.180f76c19635e364506a8021391db2e3.jpg

siad to contain the usual ingredients of  a Student , and Athlete , and finally a Gourmet Foodie

using these ingredients , the team has to create a ' Full BBQ Meal '

how does a team pic its refrigerator ?

but of course , an Egg Spoon Race .

this show is a lot of fun , but Ill tell you , Id love to eat any of the food prepared

OutDoors !

tune in if you can

I suppose this could be selective editing but I thought the contestant who went home was deserving of that outcome, at least over these first 2 episodes.
I'll be interested to see how things shake out going forward.

Edited to add that Logan posted his ZEF BBQ menu for this weekend. It's got his curry chicken salad on it and someone asked if it would be, “Aggressive, but in a good way,” as Brooke Williamson described it in episode 2 on Monday.

Im pleased the show is not simply repent the previous years format .

Logan Sandoval of ZEF BBQ is one of the contestants so, of course, I will be cheering for him.

His Japanese is a bit suspect. むすび or 結び(musubi) actually means 'conclusion'. It has been used to describe a type of knot used to tie (conclude) various food wrappers etc and also sometimes refers to rice balls stuffed with various fillings and tied with a knot of nori. In that usage it is a synonym for the more usual o-nigiri (おにぎり).

I hope his cooking is better than his Japanese etymology!  😀

'The Chef challenge was Pigs Brains , for an advantage :

7777777.thumb.jpg.da5503073c0e9fc9785832828d64970c.jpg

Ive had veal brains in France , of course , bur didn't thunk much of them , either way.

two chef's incorporated them into eggs for a scrambler , and put them in  taco

Meh .

the cooking apparatus was a Fire Table.  nId never hear of this , but its clearly an American invention.

9999999.thumb.jpg.6a1daf8042c1038dd9dfd91f8e8ece81.jpg

The idea is you take coals // wood from the central ' box '  and distribute it under the chosen cook area , which you

can adjust Up and down/

The major ingredient , to be used in all dished was

yyyyy.thumb.jpg.02654bb6a810bfce33cc8c7f71071266.jpg

the creativity was stunning, for 2 hours

Brawl # 5

initially each contestant has to do a Propane // induction true BBQ dish .  no wood.

here are the 7 dishes :

1.thumb.jpg.c7e6469debd321dca303d93790a27bf2.jpg

8.thumb.jpg.eec4e9a1a30759101529108942579c10.jpg

Id gobble up any of them

the lowest scored person , one from each group , then has to compete for the elimination round :

True BBQ , but no meat :

9.thumb.jpg.9a1ae82d59dc1e7e412d5de2ce603b75.jpg

10.thumb.jpg.b2dc4708e4ec31285733db093fabc5b1.jpg

11.thumb.jpg.ad427ab595396e9da2f364a463605e73.jpg

at least no one did a Cauli Steak , which is of course ...

again a very good show.

for review purposes of course.

Brawl # 6 took a page or two from the Paris Olympics :  many not a LVHM boat ,,

but a Beer [sic] sponsorship : Lite.

@Duvel might want to look away.

Very heavily promoted in the first cook :  had to use the' bee'r in a BBQ dish, to get beer flavor .

a bit Oxy Id say.

here are the 6 dishes :

2.thumb.jpg.c2add9b2f96bdd59a8a5827884139004.jpg

3.thumb.jpg.1e70bd77ba80a7d628fa708134b32605.jpg

7.thumb.jpg.098f42880722e3e666779f8b0f02bac7.jpg

they all did well , except for one.

the team competition was a BackYard BBQ pot luck :

333.thumb.jpg.1fbe74c153cf55fad046d17cd46869da.jpg

11.thumb.jpg.ac78f90b4e14bc2f0e47c533a004d5a1.jpg

444.thumb.jpg.23c8bbeb6e4f4994cd40b39f55fb9e5c.jpg

everything looked terrific.   would have like to try everything , but BFlay made a grilled lobster potato salad that was

that I would have loved to try., along w everything else.

None of that looks as over-the-top as the Minnesota State Fair stuff, but I agree, @rotuts: it all looks good and fun.

@rotuts, we'd be a good pair for cleaning it all up. I have always (yes, even as a child) found peanut butter and jelly to be revolting, although a couple of the offerings above did look innovative enough to appeal to me. Pistachios, on the other hand? I'll take 'em!
