Calphalon self sharpening knives

Is the trick in the holder? My guess is the quality is not great. Anyone know about these?

I've seen the television advertising and that's about it.  If it's they are the same quality level is most products from Calphalon, they will be decent quality but nothing special.  A sharpening idea sounds like a gimmick more than anything else, it's probably more like a honing surface if anything.  Certainly not something that we will be buying into their an awful lot of good reports out about it.

I sort of figured this was a gimmick not worth bothering with, but I wanted to see if some of the, um, sharper minds on this forum might shed some light.

Wilkinson used to have the same system many years ago - had one, wasn't impressed
