Quality poultry in Boston.

I'm not sure if this might be what you're looking for, but I recall a business on Brighton Ave in, I think, Cambridge. It had my favorite sign of all time. Very large with a picture of a rooster. It proclaimed: Live Poultry, Fresh Killed.

Dewars in Newton Center is it. Savenors has similar products, but attitude, and not much customer service. If I call Dewars to order Moulard legs, they get them. If I call Savenors, they tell me, nope, haven't seen them for awhile, can't get them. I haven't done a head-to-head comparison, but my impression is that Dewars has slightly lower prices than Savenors.

The guys at Dewars chat you up if you appear amenable, and will offer spontaneous recipes. Harry once spent five minutes giving me directions to a knife sharpener in Boston who would not stab me in the back with pricing.

Geepsie

Keep in mind that "live poultry" and/or "fresh killed" doesn't necessarily translate into "fresh, tasty meat." I've gotten chicken from a place somewhere in the Central Square area (not sure if it's the one you're referring to) that while fresh, was also distinctly unpleasant-tasting. Same goes for Super 88, which I assumed would have really high turnover. I've actually had the best luck at stores that don't kill/cut their own meat, but just bring in the stuff that they know is good.
