if clio is not available(very innovative, sedate, quiet), Sonsie is a very 'happening' bistro w/ exc. food. Handome room, v active bar scene, attracts city's Europeans w/ its food and atmosphere.

Clio is wonderful if price is no object and your guests are adventurous. For something more conservative, around the corner on Newbury Street is Abe and Louie's, more of a high end steak house (with plenty of fish too).

Also nearby is the Capital Grille, at 359 Newbury (near Sonsie), which is a very good dark-wood steakhouse with a superb wine list. It's a very safe choice, on the expensive side but not absurdly so.
