This is hard core food porn, and I wriggle a little turning the pages. But like actual porn, it’s so unreal and unattainable, (unless you’re an AIG executive) that I think Chuck Williams must have lost his mind. We’re not talking the peppermint bark here, great as it is. Macarons: 24 for $49.00. Twelve canneles, $49.00.

But that s just the setup shot. How about a 4 bone prime rib for $189.? Lobster pot pie (Oh Baby!)four for $79.00? Sixty gougeres for $55.00? Everything’s shot through gauze and I want it all. Bad. Now.

I have seen that as well. A quite a few of their products are similar or the same as products you can buy elsewhere for much less. Put their logo or wordmark on it and it instantly is worth 3 times as much.

I seldom buy anything from them because of this.

That will not stop me from browsing their store.

I was looking for a fish tweezers. They are relatively expensive for what they do. I remembered that I have an extra stainless forceps in the tackle box that I bought for $2.00 at the bait store when I left mine at home. It now resides in the tool caddy in the kitchen.

If you don't want to pay the because-it's-WS upcharge mentioned above, they do sell Microplanes and some other tools at list price; their stores have a wide supply of interesting cookie cutters at reasonable prices, too.

Unless there's something you need immediately, wait for their year-end sale (usually in January but this year - who knows, maybe sooner). You'll find huge discounts then.

I did buy the WS animal cracker cookie cutters, stained glass cutters, and the pie crust leaf cutters. I have been having a blast making bite size cookies with the animals and leaves! Their recipe for the stained glass cookies is way off - to get nice thick clear panels of 'glass" you need to use the life savers in as large a piece as possible, preferably whole or halves. They do look good too, but not as much fun as biting the head off the giraffe!

I second this. I purchased several of the Gold Touch baking pans after watching the demo on the PBS show from Cooks Illustrated.

Even sticky buns (and mine are extremely sticky) exit the pans with no difficulty and they clean up so well that it is difficult to see which one has been used and which is still "new." (I have a habit of buying extras when I discover a really fine item.)
