I am off to southern NJ again and the chain restaurant hell that colleagues seem to insist upon is making me cranky.

Going to Philadelphia isn't an option because we're on per diems that don't cover parking in the city (yah, we're being cheap). So, we're stuck on the other side of the river.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for dinner across the river from the City of Brotherly Love? A place with a reasonable wine list (e.g. not entirely populated by bottles under $10/bottle at the supermarket) would be nice because well, we're powered by booze when we do these meetings.

There are a lot of decent restaurants in SNJ which are BYOB because liquor licenses are scarce and wildly expensive.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in NJ is in Haddonfield, it is Fuji. Recently moved to this new location. It is actually in a little mall in downtown Haddonfield (Kings Hwy), but don't let that throw you.

Another option, Mexican "inspired" is the Tortilla Press in Collingswood.

Stop off at Moore Brothers (in an industrial park in Pennsauken) and tell them where you are eating, they'll make suggestions. http://www.wineaccess.com/store/moorebrosnj

my parents used to live in the mt. laurel/medford area. a few of our favorites are:

pacific grill in mt. laurel, which serves a creative selection of asian fusion and it's BYOB.

tarantella ristorante in medford. i'm pretty sure it's still BYOB, but they also sell a local vineyard's wine. big portions of well-made italian cuisine. they don't take reservations, so get there early.

for dessert, try dolce crema in moorestown. it's no capogiro, but what is?

Pacific Grill is gone.

Ditto on the Dolce Crema suggestion.

If the OP is into the steakhouse thing, The Chop House, in Voorhees, is pretty popular. I'm pretty sure that their wine list would meet the "not entirely populated by $10 supermarket wines" criteria.

Thanks to all who have replied. I already do the Moore Bros thing because I want to have something interesting to drink when I sit around and shoot the breeze (also too many corked bottles at the hotel).

Have already tried Tortilla Press but will propose the other suggestions and hope for the best.
