  1. It's a food safety issue. The maximum amount of time you should leave food out of the fridge is 2 hours. They say after 2 hours, the "bugs/bacteria" start contaminating the food. If you put warm food into the fridge, it takes longer for it to cool down to proper safe temperature as opposed to putting room temperature food into the fridge. Plus, putting warm food into the fridge warms up the interior of fridge (and the other foods in there) (like @Anna N said) which can also lead to food contamination. The high end of the safe temperature zone for refrigerating food is 40°F. Anything higher than that allows possible bacteria in your food to multiply.
  2. I drink Canada Dry Ginger Ale because it's one of the few sodas that doesn't have caramel color added (Google it). I drink the Diet version but I mix it with Pom pomegranate juice and it's freakin' delicious. It's also good with Dole's Strawberry Lemonade. I do about a 3-to-1 (diet soda to mixer) ratio so I'm not really drinking diet soda...kinda. The issue I have with most of the studies de-crying diet soda is they can't show causality. It's all statistics like they do with insurance studies (eg, "most red headed woman live 10 years longer than women with other hair color") but lack the cause/proof.
  3. More chicken, different brand... "Serenade Foods Recalls Frozen Raw Breaded Stuffed Chicken Products due to Possible Salmonella Enteritidis Contamination" Edited to add: Just saw on CNN's web site that these chicken products were sold at Aldi's.
  4. Found this afternoon: Slightly more expensive... From by Marc Vetri, Claire Kopp McWilliams, and David Joachim "Mastering Bread: The Art and Practice of Handmade Sourdough, Yeast Bread, and Pastry [A Baking Book]" Kindle Edition $3.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) Well reviewed. 5. "Blount Fine Foods Corp. Recalls Chicken Soup Products Due To Possible Foreign Matter Contamination" Specific product(s) impacted are listed in the article.
  6. The pineapples we get in my local grocery stores are a sort of cross in colors that your pineapples are showing. Here they're greenish with a gold blush. The more golden they are, the more ripe they are. Your golden pineapple, if found in my grocery store, wouldn't be touched by shoppers because it'd be considered overripe. I was happy to hear it tasted good!
  7. This month's Amazon offerings has a lot of previously posted cookbooks...kind of disappointing. Two bargains found, one old (previously posted) and a new one: "Sara Moulton's Everyday Family Dinners" Kindle Edition $1.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) Use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll down to see the recipe listing for the first chapter and some recipes. Not a cookbook...a commentary on the Food World and those populating it... Anthony Bourdain's "Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook (P.S.)" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

  13. I'm with Paul...I also don't see the image unless I open the link. The loaves look beautiful!
  14. Carrots! "Grimmway Farms Voluntarily Recalls Certain Retail-Packaged Carrots Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination" There's a short list at the bottom of the recall article of products being recalled.
  15. "Muffins sold nationwide recalled for listeria concerns" There is a link in the article that shows specific brands/products being recalled.
  16. This article originally appeared in the Los Angeles Times but there's a paywall, I believe, so I am posting this reprint from MSN: "Mar Vista's cookbook queen wants her living room back, so she's selling treasured titles"
  17. Currently snacking on Kettle Corn by Popcorn Indiana. Oddly, I have had this before and with the previous bag it tasted like freshly popped Kettle Popcorn. This bag...no "just popped" taste. Will have to do further investigation. Twist my arm...
  18. I would also be interested in how it is regarding food or detergent odors. Tupperware tends to hold onto detergent fragrances.
  19. The design/pattern/colors harken back to an older, more genteel era of tableware. You lucked out... A lot of the Pioneer Woman's products are stylistically...uhm...wanting.
  20. Past eGullet discussions... The good: "Showstopper Jello Desserts" Going straight to the bad: "gelatinous holiday horrors"
  21. I have a similar "Bacon Pig" somewhere in my kitchen. Always came in handy when frying bacon...
  22. "One of the Most Popular Taco Bell Items In History Is Returning to the Menu" I suppose if McD's has their once-in-awhile McRibs, then Taco Bell can have its sporadic Nacho Fries.

    Popeyes

"Popeyes Is Adding Sandwich-Inspired Chicken Nuggets to the Menu" If the nuggets taste anything like their chicken sandwich, they will be quite successful. (They will offer a 48 nuggets order only on their online menu).
