"Arby's Is Discontinuing This Beloved Side Dish" I love the potato cakes, little triangles of potato-ey goodness. They're like a Tater Tot, except there's more to it, of course. I even used to buy the triangle potato cakes in the frozen foods section of my local grocery stores but Ore-Ida stopped making them. Alas...

Bought a box of Charleston Chews Minis (click) this weekend. I am now experiencing a huge sugar rush. Not a good move on my part.

The embedded link doesn't work but if you copy the URL that was typed out and paste it into a new browser window, the proper recipe page will appear.

What about a full ring/rack like what they make for woks (click)? It'd have to have legs to raise the rack to mid-pan. If the center isn't blocked by food, then you'd still have good convection air circulation. There's a steamer rack, too (click) that might work, too but might need to be a bit taller depending on the thickness of whatever is being air-fried on the bottom layer. I don't have a dog in this fight (to quote TV's Dr. Phil) but it seems like there's an easy answer out there. Maybe eGullet needs its own line of cookware and accessories.

It's funny how there are a ka-billion accessories for the Instant Pot, yet none for Air Fryers. Why can't someone invent a rack that would give you two layers for the food? That would double your output. It's the heated air that cooks the food, not direct contact with any sort of heated metal. A second rack sounds doable unless I am not understanding the technology here.

"Food Network Stars Open Up About Sexism in Kitchen Culture in New Documentary Her Name Is Chef" I am trying to recall if any current board members work in restaurant kitchens. I know the Kitchen Life is a rough one but to have to deal with sexist crap on top of it would be especially tough. To quote from the world of Politics..."Nevertheless, she persisted." And, hopefully, thrived.

"Pringles is entering the fried chicken sandwich wars with its new flavor" It's a limited edition flavor. By the way, stay away from Pringle's Parmesan and Roasted Garlic flavor. I had high hopes for this new flavor. It turned out to be a major salt bomb. Couldn't even taste any nuance of flavor...just salt. Really, really bad.

Perhaps there's a recipe on the internet somewhere for smashed corn that will convert you.

Alice Waters' "We Are What We Eat: A Slow Food Manifesto" Kindle Edition (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) June 1, 2021 Not a cookbook.

Wow...that sale-price was short-lived. The price is back up to $22.99US. I guess "Get it while you can" is the lesson here.

You're right. I think the attraction of Pineapple & Ham is the sweet & salty thing.

Yes, I saw the local Walmart Neighborhood Grocery Store carried the sauces. I wasn't familiar with the Polynesian Sauce (what does it taste like?).

From this morning's BookBub email: "The Science of Spice: Understand Flavor Connections and Revolutionize Your Cooking" Kindle Edition $1.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) A sort of cross between an encyclopedia and cookbook. With some recipes...from the Amazon info page for this cookbook: "Recipes for blends, butters, rubs, and pastes..." I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

Did Chef Stephanie Izard (from Top Chef) sell her soul, or did she step into this willingly? "You Can Order a Cheez-It Cake to Celebrate the Snack's 100th Anniversary" My niece is a Cheez-Its fanatic. I've made Chex Mix using just Cheez-Its for her every Christmas (she swoons over them). But in a cake? I suppose if anyone can make this idea work, it would be Chef Izard. Anyone care to take one for the team?

"Hershey’s Red, White & Blue Cookies ‘N’ Creme Bar Will Make The Most Patriotic S’mores" It's a limited edition flavor. I don't think Hershey "gets it". S'Mores are made with chocolate bars, not white chocolate bars. White chocolate isn't even real chocolate...it's just sweet. But I guess this is aimed at kids so it doesn't really matter.

Reviving this ancient discussion for a recent news article: "Chick-fil-A is facing a sauce shortage" First a ketchup packet shortage, then a shortage of chicken wings, and now Chick-fil-A sauce packets. The Pandemic is certainly making its mark on the fast food world.

They're one of my favorite TJ's product. A lot of dried fruits are just too sweet for me but these have a little tartness to them. A nice contrast...

I tried three new confections and liked only one of them. First off, I saw these first two candies at the checkout of my local grocery store: "New M&Ms Mixes Combine Three Favorite Flavors in One Bag" I tried both of these and was sorry to say the peanut Mix was a fail. Really, all you taste is the peanut. I suppose if you have a lot of one type of peanut M&M then you'll eventually be able to taste the flavor it's enrobed with but in these snack bags, it's really a paltry amount of candy. So if you like peanuts, maybe just buy peanuts and skip this mix. The other mix, the Classic Mix, was much better because you could taste the enrobing chocolate. Still, it was a paltry amount in the bag, but enough you could tell they were different flavors. This candy was the one winner. The third candy I tried was the Kit Kat Key Lime flavor (click). Sounds refreshing, doesn't it? Unfortunately, it was another failure. And I apologize for this description but it's what the candy tastes like to me: Sometimes when you walk into a Men's bathroom, the urinals contain a deodorant disk that has a distinct odor. This candy bar reminded me of that odor. Not good. Also, very "fake" tasting. Not a winner.

This was previously posted (a few years back) but it's on sale again and they're the hot "name" in BBQ at the moment... "Franklin Barbecue: A Meat-Smoking Manifesto [A Cookbook]" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) Edited to add two more finds: "Better from Scratch: Delicious D.I.Y. Foods You Can Make at Home (Williams-Sonoma)" Kindle Edition $1.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of chapters then scroll all the way down to see the recipe list for the first chapter of "Pickles and Relishes".
