I am revising my remarks regarding the new chicken sandwich currently being test marketed... From the photo, it looks a lot like the sandwich uses KFC's extra crunchy coating/breading. If this is the case then I am hesitant. I have found the KFC extra crunchy coating to be rather bland. The quote "There's no 'there' there" comes to mind. It's all crunch and absolutely no flavor (zero of the 11 secret spices are used in that coating). Still, I will give it a try once it's sold at KFC's out this way.

You could always bake the roux in the oven. Just a suggestion...

Perhaps they have an office party coming up and want you to bake something for it.

Thanks @ElsieD, I think it's important to do a little research on a cookbook before plunking your money down, so to speak, whether it's a measly buck or over $20 bucks. Like you I also tend to scan the reviews especially if the cookbook doesn't have a full 5-Star average in its review.

The Souplantation chain in San Diego/Southern California (which was a salad & soup buffet) just decided to close permanently. They couldn't figure out how to still have a self-serve buffet in the time of the pandemic (is it just me or hasn't anyone ever been to Panda Express? It's set up as a buffet but the employees dish out the food, not the customers). My brother and his family had multiple gift cards to the Souplantation (they loved the restaurant) and now the gift cards are worthless, of course. I was able to warn my sister-in-law to use up her Pier 1 gift cards back when there were the initial rumblings in the financial sections of the newspaper/media that they weren't doing well financially. I hope she was able to use all of them. So, yes, Kim I share your gift card pain.

And where is the butter? The last time I went to the Walmart grocery store, there butter section was completely empty...no butter, no margarine. Maybe it's not the hoarders to blame but perhaps Walmart sucks when it comes to restocking and obtaining supplies.

From the London Italian eatery Bocca di Lupo, Jacob Kenedy's "Bocca: Cookbook" Kindle Edition $3.03US Use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll down to see some of the recipes. Note recipes measurements use weight. And for those who missed it when it was first listed 2 years ago and sporadically popping up on sale since then, this is on sale again: "Momofuku Milk Bar: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime Member and the price you see may vary.

Now it's on sale again! Not a cookbook but a must-read for anyone who wants to become a chef... She totally rocks! Thanks for posting this.

Snacking on Werther's Caramel Popcorn (click). It surprised me...a lot of caramel popcorn just tastes like the caramel. With this, however, I can taste the popcorn, aside from the caramel, which I thought was unusual but good. And yes, the caramel tastes EXACTLY like the Werther's Caramel candies. Two thumbs up.

Effective, inexpensive kitchen gadgets you couldn't live without
Toliver replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
Can you please explain the notch in the scissor blades? I have a pair of kitchen shears with a similar notch and I curse it every time I go to cut something in the kitchen. -
My brother broke a tooth trying to crack open one of those barely open pistachios. I learned from his lesson...I now buy them already shelled.
