For those of you who are trying to book slots for grocery deliveries, I just read online that someone has programmed a bot that books slots automatically. It makes me wonder if they're trying to sell the slots to make money. If grocery delivery is the future of grocery shopping, the grocery stores are going to have come up with a way to stop bots from taking delivery slots. edited to add: This is completely off the subject, but if anyone desires those gigantic wall clocks Joanna Gaines uses (as a crutch) on her HGTV home make-overs, I stumbled across an aisle full of them at Lowe's when I recently tried to find their Cleaning Product aisle.

Actor Stanley Tucci is sheltering at home and is teaching everyone how to make a Negroni on his Instagram. Perhaps @Kerry Beal can grade his mixology.

Insert a Homer Simpson "DOH!" here. I went to my local Lowe's last night after work. They usually carry bleach but when the shut-down happened that first wave of hoarders bought every last bottle of bleach and it hasn't been restocked. I was greeted by empty shelves. Plus, I found that my local Lowe's doesn't carry paper products like my brother's Lowe's does down in San Diego. Two strikes. So it's back to Walmart, I guess. On the other hand, someone in this discussion mentioned trouble finding Nitrile gloves and I saw that Lowe's had a bunch of them (brand name Clorox) in their Cleaning Supplies aisle. So that's a plus, I guess.

Strategically placed toothpicks, perhaps? Just remember to remove them before serving.

When I was checking out at my local Walmart Neighborhood Grocery Store on Saturday, the woman in front of me had a small jug of bleach (of course it was Walmart brand ) and a 4-pack of TP. I figured out I would stop by the store tonight to see if they still have those products. Then I get a text from my brother to go to Home Depot or Lowe's and check out their Cleaning Supplies aisle. He said they have lots of bleach and paper towels. I'm guessing they may have TP, too. Will have to check that when I go in. I don't want the bleach to sanitize anything...I want just white whites when I do laundry, dagnabit!

Have you thought about par-cooking the bacon? Sort of half-way cooking it but not crispy. Let it cool. Then you wrap the fish with it and it would be fully cooked by the time the fish was done. Just a thought. It looks delicious.

Another suggestion from BookBub...a "celebrity" cookbook: Valerie Bertinelli's "One Dish at a Time: Delicious Recipes and Stories from My Italian-American Childhood and Beyond : A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US There are 3 recipes from the cookbook on this cookbook's info page: CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST LEMON CURD PANCAKES PUMPKIN PANCAKES Ironically, if you use the "Look Inside" feature you can see these same 3 recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

Success for the Apple Sleuths...more "lost" apples found: "10 pioneer-era apple varieties, thought extinct, found in Pacific Northwest" The Butter Sweet of Pennsylvania sounds intriguing. The name itself makes me want to taste it.

Yes! Thank you for pointing that out. Though there is a mistake in the one of the texts in that linked-to video. The text says that the PowerWash Spray is the newest form of Dawn since the '70's (or something like that). But that's not true here in the US since the Platinum Foamer debuted here in the US some time ago. The PowerWash is brand spanking new here in the US. I may try the PowerWash but I think that in the end I will stick with the Foamer (now watch them phase it out ).

The only thing missing is a blizzard of shredded Parmesan cheese melted on top. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful holiday meal!

So the Dawn Dish soap company has an even newer product. I think their Dawn foamer (click), which I use at home, didn't use up enough dish washing liquid per use so they came out with an even newer product: Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray (click) The biggest difference with this version of their dish soap is that instead of putting the soap on your sponge or dish cloth, or running a dishpan full of water that you add soap to, you spray this product on your actual dishes sitting in the kitchen sink. I saw a gallery of images of the product being used (on the internet ...somewhere) that shows dishes in a kitchen sink. You spray all of the dishes with the Powerwash Dish Spray, go do whatever else needs to be done and when you come back, you just wipe and rinse the soap off the dishes and let them drain in the dish drainer or dry them yourself. Six of one...a half dozen of the other. I'm not sure how this product is any better than their foamer.

Yes, this cookbook has been previously posted in the past which is why I didn't post it again. It is still sale-priced on the US Amazon web site. Sorry!

This is the part where I trot in to offer my usual infamous eG suggestion of turning the crumbled cake into a trifle. Any guests will think you meant to make a trifle.

Did they peel your grapes, too? Regarding the cans with one regular end and one molded end (and the upside down label), The can end is molded so once you open the can on the regularly-shaped end, the contents should plop right out. No need for a knife or spatula to dig the contents out. As DDF mentioned, gelled cranberry has this kind of can. And Mary Kitchen's Corned Beef Hash, et al, has recently changed over to the same kind of can. I've never looked to see when the label is correct side up which end is on the bottom. I assume the molded end would be on the bottom.

I had heard that after 4 hours, the meat has absorbed all of the smoke it's going to absorb. So after 4 hours you wrap it in foil, place it on a sheet pan (with edges...in case your wrapping leaks juice), and put it in a slow oven for 8 to 10 hours. No need to worry about the water pan drying up, or having to keep throwing in expensive charcoal or fruit wood into the smoker for the next 8 to 10 hours. The oven finishes the cooking. Though the video @scubadoo97 linked to was an interesting experiment, comparing foil-wrapped to paper-wrapped to "naked". But anyone who can afford to smoke three briskets at the same time isn't worried about the expense of 10 hours worth of extra hardwood charcoal or fruit wood.

I went to my Walmart Neighborhood Grocery store and came up empty, as well. The SOB's were completely sold out of ham...even sold out of those little ham portions or packages of sliced ham...nothing. I ended up making oven baked country ribs with barbecue sauce, a baked potato with sour cream and a surprisingly nice avocado (surprising because it came from the same Walmart and based on past avocados I've bought from them I expected a brown interior ), and the last of the coleslaw made for a previous dinner. Tillamook Strawberry Greek yogurt for dessert. Divine.

Whoops...so I went to my local Walmart neighborhood grocery store to check the pizza kits for yeast. Sadly, while they have the yeast, it is pre-mixed into the pizza flour. Though I am sure at a real grocery store there may be more brands of pizza kits available and some of them may have separate yeast packages. I remember my mom always using Apian Way brand roll mix for her pizza dough. It was a hot roll mix that came in a small light blue box, similar in size to the Jiffy boxes. I know it wasn't Jiffy because my mom bought Jiffy only for their cornbread, I tried Googling for that brand of hot roll mix and got zero results (spelled with one "p" and with 2 "p"'s). I know it had yeast in the flour mix because to this day when I smell yeasted bread dough rising, I drool like one of Pavlov's dogs. Sorry if I misled you. Though you could just add the flour (with its pre-mixed yeast) to your bread flour...but then you're getting all of that other chemical crap they put in their baking mixes. Sorry!
-
I was aware of this suggestion (from @Tri2Cook) but then you're constrained to a sourdough. With the secret stash of yeast in the pizza kits, you could bake whatever you wanted.
-
Pssst...Shelby, don't tell anyone about this tip , but I saw it today online and thought it was brilliant. You know those boxed pizza kits you can buy at the grocery store? Check on the box to see if, in the directions, it mentions adding the yeast....if so, the kit has yeast inside! Granted, it may not be a lot, but when the regular packages of yeast are sold out at least you can find it in the kits.Ta-da!

"That's what she said!" [/TheOffice] Kim, yes, I was laughing as I read your food diary here. I plead with you not to give up. To say you are ambitious is an understatement. I would have suggested you start simply, at first. Fettuccine, perhaps. My brother, when he first started making his own pasta, eventually found the recipe that worked for him. He not only made Fettuccine but would make "birds nests" out of the excess, let them dry and kept them in a storage bag so he could have his Fettuccine any night of the week. Once you get your pasta recipe right, then move up and onward...Ravioli next and then your Cannelloni, perhaps. Please try again...
