Bless you, petite tête de chou, for solving a toughie! Please don't assign numbers to your new movie foods...if a movie is solved before it gets put into a recap, it's not given a number since it's out of play. Also, we're getting some repeat movies. Try not to use "Pretty Woman", "The Godfather", "Cool Hand Luke", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "Fargo", "Moonstruck", "Repo Man", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Dirty Dancing" as they've all been used twice. CONGRATULATIONS TO: -petite tête de chou for finally clearing #97 (Ahi Tuna, a glass of water...) off the board by naming it as the film "Just Friends". ************ WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION: -FoodMan has guessed that #123 ("you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta"...) is the film "Mostly Martha". -godito has guessed that #123 is the film "Made" -WHT has gueesed that #123 is the film "Blow" We know that #97 is not "Little Miss Sunshine" nor is it "Elf" #123 is not "Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events" nor is it "The Goodbye Girl" #153 is not "Legal Eagles" ************ STILL UNSOLVED AND TAUNTING US A LITTLE LESS UNMERCIFULLY: 123. "you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta." CLUE: said while the character's cooking, to a little girl, who hasnt eaten yet, and is kinda lonely. it might be "bad girl pasta" that he says. 148. In a marketplace, buying pears, Brioche, grapes, fresh cheeses, wine, crusty loaves of bread, and a fresh pork hock 154. REVISED CLUE: A floor picnic of roast chicken, rudely interrupted by monetary concerns and time constraints. CLUE: Every meal in the movie was disrupted by SOMETHING, but no other by money. 158. "I love their eggrolls" " Eat your eggs" and four perfect T-bone steaks 166. A couple enter a restaurant, and the lady goes off to the ladies' room to neaten her hairdo. She returns and is majorly P.O.ed that her gauche escort has not only ordered for himself, but is too busy gobbling oysters to rise and hold her chair. 168. BBQ. Mainly ribs featured more than once in this movie. The main character seemed to savor them very much from a certain BBQ shack. 169. Scene: Whole broiled fish served for lunch. Host: "I hope you don't mind. I believe they should be served with the head." Guest: "Fine, as long as you don't serve chicken that way." **** NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate. Also, consider posting more clues if your movie remains unsolved. ****

They weren't sick. They were just phlegmy. A few years ago I took my mom out to dinner for some Mexican food. We were seated at a table next to an older couple who were well into their meal. As we looked the menu over, we began to notice that just about every 30 seconds, one of them would "hawk" their throat or snort or clear their sinuses while they were eating. At first my mom and I were very disgusted and quickly losing our appetites. Then we started to get the giggles because it was so digusting and the couple was completely and utterly oblivious to the fact that they were out in public and making these loud horrendous noises while eating. My mom and I just about fell off our chairs with laughter by the time the couple left. To this day I can still get my mom to start giggling when we're dining out by discreetly recreating one of those noises while looking at the menu. At least we could laugh about it...

I tried the Parmesan Garlic Pringle Selects. They're not that special. The garlic isn't "there" in the bite but is more present in the aftertaste. Even then, it's not that strong of a presence. The parmesan flavor isn't that strong of a presence, either. It's just a sort of generic cheese flavor on the chips. So now I'm wishing I'd bought the Sun-Dried Tomato chips insead.

Farberware sells them (at a great price): Amazon's Friday Sale "Farberware Cast Iron 12-Inch Skillet" It has a helper handle, too, which is a nice feature. I wonder if they farm them out to another manufacturer or if this really is their own line.

There's a new Limited Edition Reese's Big Cup with Mixed Nuts. As with the original Limited Edition with Nuts, this is another winner. It didn't quite look like the cross section on the cover of the wrapper, but it was quite nutty and quite good. Besides peanuts (of course), the ingredient list shows Pecans, Almonds and Cashews. While eating the peanut butter cup, you can't really discern one nut over another (the nuts aren't whole...they're little chunks) but it all contributes to a very nutty (with a nice contrasting note of saltiness) experience. Thumbs Up! edited for clarification and spelking

Welcome to California...Land of Casual Dining. Not to sound like an old fogey, but... When I was a child you just didn't go out to eat that often. Eating out was a treat. So when you did finally go out to eat you dressed up because it was an "occasion". It didn't matter that it was only dinner at Sir George's Smorgesboard, or Roma's, the mom & pop pizza joint down the street. As it's been pointed out, there's obviously a different attitude towards not just dining out at fine dining places, but dining out at most restaurants in general. It's not as special to eat out anymore for many people. This is a rumored-to-be-true dining story... There is a restaurant right on the bay in downtown San Diego called "The Star of the Sea Room". It's an Old School fine dining restaurant situated right next to their more casual Anthony's Seafood restaurant. The owner of the San Diego Chargers (the city's NFL football team) wanted to go to the Star of the Sea Room for lunch but the restaurant had a dress code. Gentlemen were expected to wear a coat and tie when dining. The owner of the Chargers wasn't wearing a coat & tie but still wanted to eat there. Instead of turning him away, the dress code for the restaurant was dumped right then and there. Can we blame the plethora of Fast Food restaurants, a dining out training ground where dining out = causal and now this casualness has spread to all levels of dining out?

Now it looks like NBC is trying to "Rachel-ize" Giada De Laurentiis. They seem to be grooming her as a non-cooking co-host for their third hour of broadcast (soon to be four hours!). She's interviewing guests on the show and not cooking a darn thing. I guess there's always the OFF button...

I don't think it's about higher pressure. I think it's more about preventing heat loss. When boiling pasta, usually the water drops below the boil when you dump the pasta in. Putting the lid back on the pot should bring the water back to a boil faster than leaving the lid off. Once it's back to a boil, you don't really need to have the lid on anymore.

Where are the Food Porn police?!? That looks positively decadant. Thanks for posting the pics, Marlene!

Name the film in which mushrooms play a minor, but significant role in forwarding themes - For a fleeting moment, a hunt for trumpet mushrooms unites a disengaged father with his two children. Hidden deep within the woods, chanterelles evoke nostalgia for those resigned to the grimness of their ongoing lives: a time of family connections when traditions were passed down from one generation to the next. The best mushroom one could ever find, they represent promise. As long as they keep it a secret from their mother, the children may be taken high into the mountains to search for them one day when they are older. Black mushrooms mean death: inescapable, horrifying, thrilling. CLUE: Subtitulos 161. I completely agree that it was a giant miscalculation on the part of the chains. They lost big time. And isn't it ironic that, according to the last paragraph of the linked article, one of the sticking points in the current contract negotiations is that the union wants to do away with the previously agreed to two-tier pay system? The article also mentioned that Albertson's is working with a Federal mediator to come up with a suitable contract. Is this Federal intervention normal for such contract negotiations? Or is this an indication that the two sides may be so far apart (hence the deadline extension) that the Feds had to step in?
