  1. My guilty pleasure is... Cheez Whiz AND peanut butter on toast. Yes, together.
  2. She was such a constant presence here, she will undoubtedly be missed.

Me neither, with the exception of cooked peas.

Great deal! I would have stocked up too. I think I mentioned that our local Co-Op had AAA prime rib roasts (6 pounds and under) for 5.99 a pound a month ago. We bought two, now I wish we had bought four at that price!

He said I should have doubled the chicken and halved the broccoli. I felt exactly the opposite 😂 Sounds exactly like what my husband would say. He's 65 years old now so I know I should give up on trying to make him eat vegetables but it is frustrating as he is an intelligent man in so many ways but as I have mentioned before, reverts to a 5-year-old when it comes to green vegetables no matter how they are cooked or presented.
  6. They are on the London Drugs website, London Drugs has a decent amount of "British" food and treats. I don't think they go any further east than SK or MB but they maybe available on line? My Dad was a Scotch lover. Glennfiddich was his special occaision dram.

LThat lookd fabulous. We love Puttanesca - it's a perfect "easy but seems gourmet" recipe. Our new favourite is pan fried gnocchi Puttanesca.
  8. Those who love mincemeat tarts are getting few and far between. Always used to make them for my Dad and my boss. Dad had gone to greater glory and I've retired. My husband thinks they are "okay" but wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't make them. The Glennfiddich tarts are available to me locally for 11.99 Cdn. I will definitely treat myself to these. My Dad's Nan (my great grandmother) was well known for her love of a dram with chocolate or shortbread or mince tarts so seem very fitting, thank you!
  9. I'd love to see how you make tortiere. It's my husband's only request as far as Christmas treats go. His mother always made it, but there was no recipe. I think I've come pretty close to what he remembers after 30 years of tweaking a Canadian Living recipe.
  10. You are light years ahead of me ma'am! Cold rain yesterday delayed our plans to put the outside lights up. I did spend a fair amount of time "thinking about Christmas." Does that count? Most of my major gift shopping is done. Need some stocking stuffers. I have all the ingredients for gingerbread, shortbread and sugar cookies, just need to get my rear in gear!

We call that a scrabble dinner - no one every turns their nose up as everyone can pick and choose!
  12. Fortunatel for me, I refuse to buy anything masquerading as a melon at this time of year.
  13. I have never seen it in any of the B.C. grocery stores.
  14. What a wonderful spread. And you are very gracious.
  15. That would make sense if one were using cornbread.
  16. Yes, I forgot the seasonings, our is pretty sage/thyme heavy. Still no eggs. I put a bit in the bird for my husband who considers that the only way. The majority gets baked in a coule of pans in the oven, doused with turkey drippings, now and then.
  17. Not a thing in these parts. Our dressing/stuffing is dried out bread, butter, celery, onions, chicken broth. What do the eggs bring to the party?
  18. Fortunately, I think, the whole marshmallow with sweet potatoes never caught on in my neck of the woods. I know there are people who love it but I just can't wrap my head around it.

This was good, relatively cheap and very easy to put together. https://downshiftology.com/recipes/greek-sheet-pan-chicken/#wprm-recipe-container-55213
  20. No shame - I was just intrigued with the idea of smoke with yams/sweet potatoes. I love them but sometimes I want a little more savory with the sweet.
  21. Everything looks delicious. The smoked yams are calling my name. I often season yams/sweet potatoes with smoked paprika, I'll get my husband to do some yams next time he fires up the smoker. How do you do them?
  22. I will definitely try that - looks fabulous. I'm in Canada so Thanksgiving is long gone but I'm making a sheet pan Greek Chicken Thighs and Veggies tonight: https://downshiftology.com/recipes/greek-sheet-pan-chicken/#wprm-recipe-container-55213 Pita and tsatziki on the side.
  23. If only we could get together. You could show me the finer points of using chopsticks and I could teach you how to make a proper Bloody Caesar! Appropos of that, I found a cute little glass tree ornament that is a caesar with appropriate garnishes for my daughter.

Oxtails, stewing beef, short ribs, cross rib roasts, chicken wings...they all used to be "cheap meat." Certainly not the case here any more!!
  25. I read this with great interest as I am an abyssmsal failure with chopsticks despite my love for Asian food. This comment "Reaching across a table to retrieve some of the food you want to place in your bowl is much easier with chopsticks, providing you know how to use them" cracked me up as I imagined my family attemtping to do this. I can knit and crochet, pipe decent designs on a cake and my handwriting is pretty nice if I do say so myself. I am not without manual dexterity but chopsticks escape me.
