  1. If Velveeta is shelf stable, I would be happy to send you some. It is not as popular in Canada as it is in the US but it is available here. It would be my pleasure to send you a bit of nostalgia!

I love that you have a milkman. Haven't had any such thing for years. It was my job as a youngster to put the milk bottles out (with cash tucked in the neck) after supper for the milkman the next morning. Once a month we got to have a quart of chocolate milk - such a nice treat from the Nestles' Chocolate Quick.

We have seasonal farm workers from Mexico in our area. A farmer that we know that hired them lets us know when he has a day where he doesn't have enough work for the full crew and we have them over to our place to help us out. The are the nicest guys, always smiling and such hard workers. No standing around, no cell phones out and they even put up with my not so great Spanish!
  5. Guess I read too quickly - both of my daughters had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted at once and my husband had a full mouth replacement and dairy was never an issue for any of them so that's why my mind went the way it did,
  6. Pastina, oatmeal, rice, mashed potatoes and gravy - been there, done this - more than once. Also ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, diced canned peaches, applesauce...
  7. Can you label it or tag it?

I have never had biscuits with sausage gravy - but that looks so good - I just might give it a try!
  9. Skor is the favourite here. Also Skor bits for including with toasted pecans in browned butter blondies. Quick and delicious.
  10. We are fortunate to have a very user-friendly recycling program here. We have bins for plastic, metal and glass, (that we can put the clamshells in) another for cardboard and another for paper
  11. I'm finding that a lot of things are impossible to open without a plethora of tools. And don't get me started on why the instructions on medications are printed in micro type! I usually resort to taking a picture on my phone and then enlarging it to be able to read.
  12. I hate them. Mainly because I like to pick my own produce, secondly, I like to pick the amount I want and thirdly they take up so much room in our recycle bin - there is no way to compact them much. In an era where we are trying to reduce plastic waste - why have the clamshells become so prevalent? Where I live, all berries, any type of mini tomatoes, mushrooms, grapes, herbs, bean sprouts, some lettuces, spinach and kale all come in clambshells. So I frequent a South Asian produce store where everything (with the exception of berries) is bulk and you can pick what you want and put it in a sturdy plastic bag. These bags, unlike the clamshells get used at least once more in our house and when their time is up, they take very little room in our recycle bin.

Very disappointing room service from a Marriot. Where is the silver cloche and the linen napkin? Definitely worth an email to management.
  14. Oh my gosh - my husband would love that - I wonder if it is available around here?
  15. Sorry that it was not a stellar dinner for you but you seem to do pretty well with eating out on vacatione. Hopefully things will turn around food-wise for you!
  16. Haha - sounds like Mexico time which we are very familiar with. Even in some of the nicest restaurants, we have waited for over 1/2 an hour for out cocktails and then our appies and dinner and dessert all arrive at the same time. Oh well, if you're in their world you have to live in their world.
  17. Shared that picture with my mainly Pacific Northwest friends and the comments were definitely x-rated.
  18. Saw this tree in Costa Rica. Wonder if it is realted?
  19. Lovely setting. When a restaurant dish is salty enough that you don't find it palatable, do you send it back or mention it to your server? With the price of restaurant meals these days, I struggle with whether or not to send a dish back - my reasoning for not sending it back is that my fellow diners already have their meals so would make the pacing of the dinner akward. At 50.00 a plate at least, I feel like I shouldn't just suck it up.

That looks fabulous! I can smell them from here!
  21. Not a huge fan of milk myself. I drank the obligatory glass or two when I was a youngster. When I was pregnant with our twins, I was told that I should drink about 2 lites of milk per day or the equivalent in cottage cheese or yogurt. That got old really fast and the best I could do was to chug chocolate milk. Both girls were born just fine although one is lactose intolerant but I believe that is just luck of the draw) I've always thought it odd that we drink milk past weaning. I do love cheese in all forms, even cottage, I can abide yogurt and I love sour cream on a baked potato but I could easily go dairy free.
  22. Yellow onions are the norm around here most of the time. We do get vidalias or walla walla (sweet onions) for a month or two every summer. I buy red onions to pickle and although they are a fine subsitute for white or yellow onions, they can lend an odd purple hue to some dishes. I am seeing great deals on 50 pound bags of yellow onions - works out to about .35 a pound. Thinking I will pull up my bootstraps and buy a bag, Carmalize a bunch and chop the rest and freeze. Every night, when starting dinner, I start with a chopped onion. Would be a great time saver. Just have to kick myself in the butt and do it.
