Chocolate Oblivion cake made by egulleter *Deborah* omigod...so delicious!
-
Is it possible to freeze a flourless chocolate cake? I would like to keep a piece for 5 days. Should I just keep it well-wrapped in the fridge?

Not a fan of KFC chicken, but I love the crispy skin on Church's chicken. In the "What's the most delicious thing you've eaten today?" thread, I confessed to peeling off all the fried skin on my brother's piece of chicken, and putting the naked piece of chicken back in the fridge.

I agree, the white plates were a bit boring, compared to all the fantastic platings we've seen in previous episodes (both ICA and the original series). I really enjoyed cheering Rob on, and that veal with crab hollandaise looked incredible! My favourite scene would have to be the cute close-up shot of all those tiny little crabs trying to climb out of Morimoto's bowl, and then Morimoto casually flinging each one straight into the deep fryer! The final presentation of those fried crabs (as a garnish, by a hollowed out cantaloupe filled with konnayaku, melon, and crab "soup") looked adorable (although slightly creepy, seeing as we all saw how they got killed!). I can't say how the dish tasted, but I thought this was one of the most beautiful dishes of the evening. I thought Morimoto's crab rice dish with the hot broth, and the miso/crab garnish (cooked on the wooden paddle) was very creative, and looked like good ol' Asian comfort food (though infinitely more refined than anything I could do!) Great battle...great company...(and great food at Arne's!)

I had the chocolate pave (made by lemoncurd) tonight at an Egullet potluck dinner. All I can say is that every potluck should be so lucky as to have this dessert rounding out the meal. I loved how rich the cake was, and the apricot/ginger was a really nice unexpected element (for me). You should have seen what an amazing job lemoncurd did on the cake decorations--I hope she will post pictures!

^Oh my. BRAINS. I gotta ask, how did it taste?
-
^Woohoo! I get to eat that in about an hour!

You know how to contact me if you ever feel the need to re-live the pain.

If I could live on desserts alone and not get too chubby or die of malnutrition, I would. (And there was a 2 or 3 week period around Christmas where I ate my Christmas baking pretty much for breakfast, lunch, and dinner whenever I didn't have a big family dinner planned. )

Dulce de Leche is my absolute favourite, though to be fair, I've only tried maybe 5-6 of their offerings. Whenever I open a pint of Dulce de Leche, I always finish it. I try not to buy it too often.

Vancouver, they also have Peet's coffee at Urban Fare, at $14.99-$15.99.

I can totally sympathize, Jeffy Boy! There's a dim sum place on Alexandra Road that I often to go with my parents, and my mom has no trouble reading the Chinese characters on the order form. I took my bf there a few years ago, and it was almost impossible trying to figure out which item is which considering I can't read much Chinese. (I only know the basic words like "noodles" or "beef".) It's kind of embarrassing getting a waiter to take down our order...so I don't often eat at Chinese restaurants if I know their dim sum order form only has Chinese characters.

What's the most delicious thing you've eaten today (2005)
Ling replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Today: 2 chocolate cakes from 2 different bakeries (located a few steps from one another.) One was a Chocolate Oblivion cake, and the other was a Chocolate Truffle cake. -
^That looks fantastic, Susan! I was really hungry this morning, and my usual scrambled eggs weren't going to cut it, so I put 3 thick porkchops in the pan. 2 for me, 1 for the bf.

Hot/warm with raisins...but if it's plain rice pudding, then cold. (Don't ask me for reasons...I don't really have any! )

What's the most delicious thing you've eaten today (2005)

2 days ago: hamachi belly with blood oranges Yesterday: red wine risotto with wild mushrooms Today: the freshest geoduck nigiri--the geoduck was killed right when we ordered it -
Truth be told: Where've you eaten lately? (Part 1)
Ling replied to a topic in Western Canada: Dining
3 days, 3 fantastic meals: Tuesday night, Bistro Sakana: since this was actually my 2nd dinner of the day, we didn't order very much. We ordered some rolls, a seared blue fin tuna dish that came with a ginger dressing, and--my favourite dish of the evening--hamachi belly with blood oranges! The hamachi belly was incredibly buttery, and the blood oranges were sweet/tart--a really nice match. Wednesday lunch, Adesso Bistro: I wrote about this lunch in the Adesso thread. We had the aracini, arugula salad with candied pecans and gorgonzola, crispy calamari and prawns, butternut squash pizza, and the red wine risotto. Everything was delicious (especially the red wine risotto!) Thursday lunch, Ajisai: I just came back from an incredible, leisurely two and a half hour lunch with montrachet. He is a friend of the chef, so I was totally spoiled by a series of remarkably fresh, sweet-tasting fish. My favourites were a mountain potato and unagi dish (the mountain potato was raw, crisp, and sticky), the miso black cod, and the freshest ika, uni, and geoduck (killed while we waited!) I'd ever tasted. I also very much enjoyed the hamachi belly (I think this is fast becoming one of my favourite sashimi) and the flounder fin. The Japanese saba was also very fresh (I believe this was Mike's favourite today). The ika and the scallop nigiri were lightly dusted with yuzu zest (a gift for the chef from Japan). I wish more Japanese restaurants had access to yuzu, because it imparted a really different flavour to the seafood. What an absolute treat; thanks Mike! -
Don't be ridiculous; I had dessert at the Elysian Room following our lunch at Adesso!

I don't live near L.A., but here is Nancy Silverton's recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/104666 I've made these and they are delicious.

I'm in the process of making coq au vin (my first time) but I'll be eating that tomorrow night. Dinner tonight was pretty pathetic--Frito's, scrambled eggs, and some bittersweet chocolate (not all together).
-
^Wow, yes, please PM me the recipe and let's get this thread back on topic before it gets shut down.

This is the cutest thread topic I've seen on Egullet. Yes, I do love quiche, especially if it contains caramelized onions, bacon, and cheese! Although spinach and cheese is quite nice, too.

Yes, that's me in my avatar. I'm 22. ETA: my mom used to make croissants from scratch when I was a kid! Eating her homemade cream horns was a food epiphany for me. I honestly remember biting into those gigantic pastries at the time and marvelling how food could possibly taste that good.

Dinner and a free show. Now that's an evening.

I didn't know that! I really wanted to order it, but saw that it was only on the Dinner menu when I checked the menu online last night. Aw man. Will have to come back for that (and the risotto, pizza, aracini, and calamari).
