What's the most delicious thing you've eaten today (2005)
Ling replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
(thanks...there was some cayenne in the ganache. ) Today: chocolate, pecan, cinnamon rugelach. I ate all the especially ugly ones, and am giving all the "so-so" ugly ones to friends. -

Truth be told: Where've you eaten lately? (Part 1)

Dairy Queen: My brother bought me a burger with onion rings, and my sister gave me some Chubby Chicken from A&W. First time having Chubby Chicken...I prefer it over KFC, but Church's trumphs all (for fast-food fried chicken). Anyway, can't argue with free food! The Red Onion for burgers (I had fried onions and cheddar) and some pretty darn good fries! Later that night, HSG for some gooey gingerbread pudding goodness. HSG for their awesome, juicy lamb burger and sweet potato fries with chipotle mayo. And later, The Elysian Room for the best Americano and a taste of the chocolate almond sour cherry torte. -
Mmmm...veal and flaky pastry..... Everything looks beautiful and delicious, Chufi! edit: typo

today: a thick and juicy lamb burger, topped with feta at The Hamilton Street Grill, served with yam fries and chipotle mayo (and for dessert, oatmeal and cranberry cookies made by Mooshmouse) Great lunch. -
Just wanted to add 'The Hamilton Street Grill' for Burger Club consideration--the lamb burger I had today for lunch (with sweet potato fries and this awesome mayo dip) was better than the burger at Moderne, and much better than the Red Onion burger. (Oh yeah--and it was better than my DQ burger too. ) Even though the lamb burger was pretty much cooked all the way through, the patty was thick and juicy. Delicious! (I actually think this is the best burger I'd ever eaten in my life!)

^That sounds like a great meal. My favourite pizza at Marcello's had anchovies (but I loved nothing more than pineapples on my pizza when I was a kid too.) Thanks for the review. Did they have tiramisu on the menu? I had pretty good tiramisu at Marcello's.

You're welcome. One of the reasons why I prefer this recipe is because it yields slightly softer biscotti to the other ones I've tried.

Some brief thoughts, since others have pretty much said all I wanted to say about The Red Onion burger... -I liked the toasty, crispy bun -meat was a little dry for my tastes, and I thought it could've used some more salt and pepper -I didn't mind the thick tomato slice or the stack of lettuce--I thought it made the overall burger more moist, considering the meat was a little dry (in The Perfect Burger, the meat should definitely be a bit greasier and be able to stand alone) -I loved the fries--yes, they were a tiny bit bitter, but I really enjoyed the crisp exterior. They were perfectly done to my liking (a shade overdone for some--they were quite brown) -didn't like the shredded, cold cheese (Is it bad that I thought the DQ burger I ate at lunch--with melted processed cheese and a large order of onion rings--was slightly tastier than the burger from The Red Onion? )

I'm not that big on biscotti, but my mom is. I've tried perhaps 10 or so recipes so far, including some of the more popular ones on Epicurious mentioned in this thread, and the one in the Baking with Julia cookbook. My favourite one is the biscotti from King Arthur's flour. It calls for hazelnuts, but I've also made them with almonds. Delicious! http://www.kingarthurflour.com/contentmgr/...ls.php/id/47458 edit: re-posting the link again, since it seems like the site has been updated and the old link wasn't working

Yesterday (well....before midnight): perfectly crisp fries from The Red Onion, followed by gingerbread pudding AGAIN at the Hamilton Street Grill Today (well...after midnight): flourless chocolate cake made from a recipe given to me by egulleter "Vancouver" -
Hey, that would make a fantastic date! My pick would be Cioppino's. (I've been dying to go there!)

I'm desperately trying to erase the mental image of Neil pouring caramel sauce over himself. ← I was referring to the gingerbread, not Neil!!!!! btw: the gingerbread I ate tonight was more moist and gooey than the one I ate on Friday -
Yes, Terra has some that looked really good...but I've never had one.

Their desserts are cheap too--around $3.50, if I remember correctly. And those croissants look good! -

I moved you to the top of my list, baby. You know you'll always be my number 1 choice when I need a lil late-nite sugar. You pour that caramel sauce all over yourself the next time I'm in....you know how I like it.... -
^Mooshmouse likes 6-8" of meat, weighing in at 3 1/2 lbs. I remember that episode too. Maybe if I ate it very, very slowly, I could finish it.

I thought he was screaming in pain after having lost a relative. Hm.... ← I would'nt mind losing a cousin or two if they tasted like yukon bacon. ←

Last week: Szechuan Chongquin, the Elysian Room, La Petite France, and Ch'i all in one day. As Mooshmouse said earlier, the Moelleux Chocolat au Rhum was a favourite and gets a big stamp of approval from me. I'll definitely be ordering this again. At Ch'i, I really enjoyed the jackfruit martini, the Ironstone Symphony that montrachet recommended, and the coconut creme brulee. (We also split the Valrhona chocolate souffle with candied fennel, and the hazelnut-filled deep-fried banana. I had the tea-smoked scallops and my bf had the laksa and the tuna carpaccio with edamame.) Yesterday: Bistro Sakana for lunch. We split the assorted sashimi, chicken karrage (sp?), tonkatsu (came with fried potato croquettes), spicy tuna, a special roll that the chef is thinking of putting on the menu (we got to be his guinea pigs ) that featured tuna and pesto, brown rice dynamite roll, unagi tempura roll, miso soup, and my absolute favourite--lightly seared toro atop sushi rice, garnished with yuzu pepper. Urban Fare various take-out selections from the deli case to round out our dinner at home. HSG for gingerbread pudding the size of a baby's head, with pumpkin ice-cream and ginger ice-cream. I also drank a Monte Cristo (coffee with Grand Marnier and Kaluha, with loads of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.) -

Yesterday: it's a toss-up between the seared toro topped with yuzu pepper and the gingerbread pudding with pumpkin ice-cream and ginger ice-cream at the HSG -
I thought of another one--I really, really love bbq'ed meat and pulled pork, so I would like to be the pit master at Memphis Blues. I'd stick my nose right up to the meat and get high off the meaty fumes.
-
-leftover roast pork, dolmades, artichokes -Ritter chocolate bar (yogurt flavour...interesting) -a huge portion of gingerbread pudding with pumpkin ice-cream and ginger ice-cream, and a Monte Cristo (coffee with whipped cream, Grand Marnier, Kaluha)

^In that case, the sample that I ate at J. Beethoven's was flavourless. KIDDING!
